PUBERTY TALK by Jihan S. Pristi uberty talk took place at SMPN 9 Tangerang at the 1st of October 2016 afternoon where booths and venues which were set up specifically to educate the students of the school of puberty. The importance of bringing awareness of puberty also follows with the rectification of myths and false information regarding puberty for both genders respectively.

about the female aspects of puberty within its specific aspects of either the menstrual cycle or the dos and don’ts during the menstrual cycle.

Our Goal is to broaden and provide an environment that is educationally safe to venture into these socially awkward and greatly misunderstood subjects. We achieved this by two methods; which we first separated genders of Boys and Girls.

Whereas the Boys were sent to a large hall where a few other CISMA members entertain and educate the Boys of the male aspect of puberty. Our approach for the male and female aspects of puberty is done in consideration of the volume of information of the respective fields of genders as well as the boy to girl ratio.

The Girls will visit booths that contain members of CIMSA that will teach and enlighten them

During the course of the events for the girls within the booths there were question and answers to ensure that the information was understood and once an answer is correct a small prize was given. The boys had a written quiz where similarly prizes were given out at the end of the event. Editor: Jean-Rayner

BLUSUKAN by KEVIN LEE

O

n Saturday, October 1, 2017, CDO B from CIMSA held an educational event called BLUSUKAN (Belajar Untuk Sukseskan Masa Depan) at SDN Bencongan 2, Tangerang. The main purpose of this event is to raise awareness of simple first aid, health and hygiene to elementary school students, especially to public elementary school students. On D-Day, we arrived at school around 8 am. There was a bit of nuisance when we wanted to start the event; the students were still having their scouting class, so we waited for an hour. Finally, we started our event at 9 am with a great opening from the MC; Christin and Isabella, and also the speech from the chairman of CDO B; Kevin. The students were so enthusiastic in this event.

such as how to use the splint and triangle bandage (mitela). She also taught the students about health and hygiene, as: how to do a proper hand wash, how to avoid dangerous “jajanan”, how to avoid the common disease in dirty environments, and more. At 11 am, the physician finished her presentation and we challenged the students.. They need to visit our five stations and pass the tests given by each post. At 1 pm, they finished the challenge. The result was outstanding, they passed all the test! This is shows that our event was a big success! At 2 pm, the event ended with a closing speech from Kevin as he also granted the certificates to the physician and the principal of the school. We also didn’t forget to take photos together with the students. At 3 pm, we went back to FK UPH, satisfied.

For the education session, we asked dr. Vita Yunita Sutanto to lecture the student. After Kevin finished his speech, the physician immediately began to teach the students about simple first aids,

Aksi BaBeKu by Pamela Jacub Binong II. To do so, and to make the event extremely memorable for the children, a holli powder war was called for, which was a lot of fun for not only the children but the event committee too, I’m sure Bagus Aldi, the vice leader of CDO C would agree. The holli powder used, with its different colours, thus represented different diseases– such as yellow for hepatitis, green for flu, and blue for diarrhea. We revealed ways in which each disease could be prevented, such as by a demonstration of proper handwashing and tooth brushing.

F

or our CIMSA Day Out, group CDO C decided to make the focal of their CDO event about the simple measures that can be taken to keep the body healthy and well. As the name of our event quite ambiguously implied, Aksi BaBeKu short for Aksi Badan Bebas Kuman, was centered upon the main idea that small steps indeed lead to major impacts in the upkeep of physical health.

At the end, the children were tested on their newly acquired knowledge to see if they’d learnt something new; and the results turned out well. Yet, one other highlight of our event was the chance for the children to craft their own hand soap– something that helped ensure that our event was effective because from this takeaway, the children would have been extremely motivated to put their new creation to use.

Small actions such as the practice of good handwashing habits contributes so immensely in the prevention of invading foreign disease-causing particles from entering our body. We wanted to illustrate and ingrain this inherent fact to the young children that we aimed our event at. These were 70 primary school kids from SDN 15

OD ONE DAY WITH CIMSA

O

ONE DAY WITH CIMSA ne of the most exciting event held every year is ONE DAY WITH CIMSA. This event is especially important because it plays a crucial role in the process of recruiting new members into CIMSA UPH, aside CIMSA DAY OUT and the interview process. The event is held by firstly placing second year members into respective rooms and having the newly registered members mobilizing into each of the rooms in small groups in an orderly manner. In each room, the

new members were then given a brief introduction to the SCO, along with a meaningful provision of sweets and snacks and not to forget, a singing of the respective SCO-song. Each SCO had roughly 7-8 minutes to introduce themselves to each group. In this event, as described, freshly registered members are exposed to each of the Standing Committees of CIMSA UPH. Here, they learn about the t ar g e t s a s we l l a s t h e backgrounds of all of the 6 SCOs,

16

WC so that they themselves can decide which of the SCOs they might be most interested in joining. Since each of the SCOs have different visions and missions, this event helped in allowing members to distinguish between the SCOs and choose one that most matched their own personal strengths and weaknesses. Furthermore, ONE DAY WITH CIMSA helps students decide what Standing Committee they want to be a part of to gain experience and develop themselves for as long as they remain a student in a medical campus. EDUCATIONAL ACADEMIC GUIDANCE FOR LEARNING

E

ven though the members of CIMSA UPH actively participate in organizational activities, they still have to be able to focus on their main aim in a medical campus, that is to become a doctor. The EAGLE program was started by the HRDD Team along with SCOME for the sole purpose of helping CIMSA members in their academics. It involves first year CIMSA UPH members being divided into small groups of 8 or 9

and assigned to a specific tutor, who is also a second or third year CIMSA UPH member. With EAGLE, not only are the members able to improve in the academic field, but, they are also able to bond with their seniors to create the environment of family and togetherness within CIMSA UPH. Despite the fact that students are still struggling with their studies,

we in CIMSA UPH make sure that any member with any difficulty is comfortable in asking any of his/her seniors for help. To further enhance the prospect of students scoring better in their examinations, the EAGLE program also distributes academic materials that might be useful for both the members being taught as well as the tutors.

TRENT TRAINING TENDA TENSI

F

or the sake of improving the skills of our members, Fundraising and Merchandise Director CIMSA UPH executed a training program for medical check up, in the form of tenda tensi, called Trententen (Training Tenda Tensi). This event was held on 7th September 2016, at Room 615 GBFK and 14 PBL rooms, especially for first year members because tenda tensi is used as the first means in order for new members to encounter first handedly and be involved with the

community. However, until this moment ‘tenda tensi’ has only been considered as a medium to raise funds, when in truth ‘tenta tensi’ is to establish a prominent intermediary for health screening in the society. Therefore, Trententen was implemented in order to improve and level the standard of tenda tensi CIMSA UPH in order to deliver precise and accurate information to the community. The whole prospective members of CIMSA 2016/2017 were

22

ENTEN required to participate in this event. They attended a lecture by Dr. Wendy Wiharja, discussing common diseases that are typically checked during tenten. Then, prospective members were divided into 14 groups having 8-9 students in each group. After listening to the lecture each group were assigned to move to different classrooms in order to practice. Each class contains two tutors and given 45 minutes to present and practice how to measure blood pressure and level by using GCU. After that, post-tests were taken to evaluate the comprehension of the members. Other than that, they also received a

booklet as a guideline for further ‘tenda tensi’ and the common diseases they will encounter. Writer : Vera Valentine Editor : Avilia Alexandra

IMSA’S ADVANCED TRAINING (CAT), like every year is held by the HRDD Team of CIMSA UPH. This time, we focused on 4 main topics, namely: Marketing and Advocacy, Research Skills, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Sustainable Projects. The speakers for this event were none other than CIMSA UPH’S very own trainers, Gabriella Triana, Fransisca Surya, Sherly and Denny Hartanto respectively. Aside that, unlike any other year, this year’s CAT was made better by adding 2 lectures, one on Professionalism by Reza Stevano (LEO OUT CIMSA UPH 2016 – 2017) and another one about branding by Chitra Asfrita (VLE CIMSA UPH 2016 – 2017)

indulged in a few fun-filled activities just to lighten the atmosphere. Each trainer had a very serious topic to present to the members and despite the intensity, the ice-breaking done by each trainer had proved to be very useful in getting the audience to wake up and pay attention. The main aim of training advanced members is to make sure they have sort of like a take home message from CIMSA before going into a passive phase. The message being that it is always important to remember how to keep up in the world and carry out duties by always respecting the environment. Furthermore, the skills and values that was obtained by each member in CIMSA must never be forgotten because they will be very useful in the life of a medical student in their later years.

very year, CIMSA UPH makes it a point to have the Basic Training event for the accepted members. This year, on the 4th of March 2017, CIMSA UPH executed VIBE – Voice of Internal Basic Education. This event focused on 5 vast topics; Communication Skill, Community Development, Leadership, Project Management and Team Building, all taught by CIMSA UPH’S very own trainers, namely; Payal Morangkey, Sherly, Starry Nadia (LoCo CIMSA UPH 2014-2015),

CIMSA UPH. The members who took part in this event received an enormous amount of knowledge and training to develop and become a more responsible person, and above all an outstanding leader. The members also received a pin, which marks the true acceptance for them into our organization and for them to be a proud member for the rest of their tenure in CIMSA UPH. Just as every other event in CIMSA UPH event leaves their members with a take home message, VIBE

Denny Hartanto and Fransisca Surya respectively. In addition to the training session, this year’s Basic Training had its very own twist of a SCO-session that allowed the LO’s and the ViceLO’s of each SCO to bond with their SCO children.

has taught the participants to further stay active in CIMSA UPH. Besides organizational activities, VIBE has also taught the new members the importance of each of the topics mentioned above to further progress and improve as a medical student.

The aim of this event, as always, is to teach members and give them the skills they need in order to nurture and grow as a member in

What do we do here ?

Well, its different. In community development, we find the problems from certain community and we create project out of it . So basically we make our project based on problems not based on our needs to throw an event.

We assess problems, we go to communities, we talk to people and

Gerakan Berhenti Merokok. We have carry this community development since 2015. We also already manage to make 7 out of 10 people quit smoking in 2015, and also 8 out of 11 people quit smoking in 2016. We assess our target from their social smoking habits from bunch of high schoolers.

Here, we assess our target from a bunch of junior high schoolers. So basically what do we do here is that we wanna create more generation of peer educator out of them around sexual and reproductive health issues. Thats also why we've chosen junior high schoolers to join our comdev!

Confusing ha ? Since comdev needs a serious detail on assessment itself, thats why we've chosen our third comdev as an assessment based. Here, we assess more than one community to find out what their significant problems are. Thus we can also think about the right COMDEV for certain community. Seems interesting? It is for sure! See you at another COMDEV project CIMSA!

CORA stands for the Standing Committee on Sexual and Reproductive Health including HIV/AIDS and is one of 6 Standing Committees in CIMSA. SCORA has 5 focus areas that corresponds to the theme and goal of its projects, namely, Comprehensive Sexuality education, Maternal Health, Sexuality & Gender Identity, Gender-based violence and HIV & other STIs. With these focus areas, SCORA is able to launch impactful projects like the World AIDS Day Campaign, International Woman’s Day Campaign, Maternal Health Education, Sex Education to school children, conduct free HIV Screenings in collaboration with other health institutes/ organizations, and many more. Furthermore, SCORA provides many possible chances for its members to further understand the newest discoveries and news related to its focus areas through interactive trainings and workshops such as the Local Peer Education Training, National Peer

It is undeniable that SCORA has a huge role in the control of HIV/ AIDS worldwide, especially in a developing country such as Indonesia. As a non-profit, medical student-powered Stan ding Committee, we are responsible to educate the nation about HIV/ AIDS, its negative stigma that we must eradicate, the prevention we can do and the positive support we have to show for our HIVinfected fellowmen. SCORA has also the opportunity to educate and learn more about the ever concerning issue of sexual abuse both in adults and children, the importance of Maternal Health in pregnancy, and the emerging society of LGBT. What approaches shall we take? It is for us, of SCORA to decide, but as they say, “The only way of fighting AIDS is through prevention and the only way of prevention is through education”. WORLD AIDS DAY CAMPAIGN

T

he 1st of December is a day dedicated as World AIDS Day. SCORA CIMSA UPH this year has put forth a campaign to remind the public of World AIDS Day with the theme “90 90 90; by inviting students of Faculty of Medicine in UPH to take a picture with a poster that was created with the theme, and uploading that picture to various social media outlets with a predefined caption; the aim for this campaign is to

increase public awareness of the importance of VCT and its impact to the development of HIV/AIDS. Many students that have participated were very eager to be involved. With groups consisting of 3-5 members they each carried one poster and 1 jar of lollipops. These members toured around the campus inviting staff members and students alike to take a picture whilst explaining

COPE (Standing Committee on Professional Exchange) functions to f aci lit at e t h e p r o f e s sio n al exchange program, allowing hundreds of medical students from across the world to travel and learn in other countries. In order to accomplish this, SCOPE is divided into two lines of work; to receive incoming medical students from foreign countries, and to send out outgoing students to learn from other countries. When receiving incoming students, SCOPE is responsible for taking care of their needs and overall well-being for the entire duration of their stay; which includes assigning them to their tutor in the hospital, giving them a place to stay, as well as taking them on various social programs. In order to send out their own exchange students, SCOPE holds two main events every year, which are “Around the World” and “Pre-departure

Training”. “Around the World” is an exchange fair held in March, and serves to promote and accept registrations for the professional exchange program. The fair is a sem in ar- style e vent wher e potential outgoing students are able to listen to testimonies from previous outgoing students and ask any questions they may have. The exchange fair is held in cooperation with SCORE. The “Pre-departure Training” is often held in May, and functions to better prepare those who have been accepted for the exchange program, where they are able to learn skills such as basic hospital hygiene, how to start an IV line, and basic minor surgery. The training spans two days, and consists of a series of lectures, small group tutorials, and an OSCE-style exam. Writer : Reza Stevano Editor : Avilia Alexandra

In different personalities and culture we met. We share laughter, stories, joke and everything we have. Every weekend we decided to hangout around student hostel. We always tried Indonesia food such as satay, fried rice and etc every time we eat! On the third week, we choose to have our Social Program to Tidung, Thousand Island Jakarta. Around 7am, we go by speedboat and arrived at Tidung Island. We had a lot of fun! We play banana boat,

We have bonding time not as friends but as a family. Our 5 incomings are incredibly wonderful. They have adventurous spirit. They take a break from hospital and go travelling to Bandung and Bali. Every time they go to another city, they always keep contact with us. They shared some pictures to us and always said how beautiful is Indonesia.

ID INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE

P

eace is very important in the life of nation and state, not only in Indonesia but we need peace in the world. But today there are countries that have not had peace in their lives. There are still many people who need the peace that they should have. The International Day of Peace, sometimes unofficially known as World Peace Day, is observed annually on 21 September. It is dedicated to world peace, and specifically the absence of war and

violence, such as might be occasioned by a temporary ceasefire in a combat zone for humanitarian aid access. The day was first celebrated in 1982, and is kept by many nations, political groups, military groups, and people. In 2013, for the first time, the Day was dedicated by the Secretary-General of the United Nations to peace education, the key preventive means to reduce war sustainably.

60

DP In commemorating the international day of peace is SCORP CIMSA UPH held a campaign where people can put their hand prints on the fabric that has been provided. These people come from organizations in the Faculty of Medicine UPH with the aim to strengthen unity among the existing organizations. The number of existing organizations symbolize that even though we are different from the vision and mission but we can still create peace in the

environment around us, namely the Faculty of Medicine UPH. From the campaign we are doing, we want to deliver on all organization that peace can only be done by a soldier or a government but we ourselves can do peace through the things we do every day. That would create a sense of peace among all the people around us. Writer : Jeremy Nathan Editor : Valleria Vallencia

INTERVIEWING

Dr. dr. Allen Widysanto, Sp.P, CTTS

T

uesday, 24th of January, the MCC team of CIMSA, had the chance to interview one of the faculty’s distinguished doctor and lecturer, Dr. dr. Allen Widysanto, Sp.P, CTTS. This is a translated text of the interview, in which we talked about the experience working with CIMSA, the impressions towards CIMSA, the messages, and hopes future developments of CIMSA.

First Question : How many pr oject s h ave yo u b ee n collaborating with CIMSA, and since when have you been doing itu? dr. Allen : I can’t count precisely how many times I did, but I think I have been collaborating with CIMSA for about 4 times, in which 2 were “GEBROK”, and the other 2 were a counceling 70

project at the Community Health Centre. I recall the project was about 4 to 5 years ago.

merokok" "oh iya bagus, bagus! Sudah, pakai aja (namanya) (Yeah that’s great, use that!)", and after that she arranged everything, until the moment where we had to prepare enough financial support to provide drugs, losenges, and patches, in which it is not sold in Indonesia at all, and from that moment I admit that all the people who have joined in this event are serious, enthusiastic, about their job, that they were willing to go to Singapore, to buy the drugs, and able to bring it here to Indonesia and I really respect their effort. I realized and saw that students, who have joined CIMSA are stu dents t hat have high commitment, and this trait is a very good asset for future prospects to be a competent doctor.

Second Question : Could you share some of your experience working with CIMSA? dr. Allen : My first experience with CIMSA is that I was blown away how great they are. They are creative, compete, and discipline in working and they are punctual, so in my opinion they are professional. In which when they do your job they work from the start until the finish. So they do their work seriously, and their professionalism gives us the obligatory for doctors to adapt how I present ourselves and give our best also, so that we do not disappoint and “don’t let them down”, who has such high hopes and spirit for the event. Especially in GEBROK, at first I only gave the idea of the event, and the name “GEBROK” itself came from merry (senior CIMSA member), who at that time was the first project officer of this event. She said, "Dokter, bagaimana kalau kita pake gebrok (Hey doc, what if we name the event as GEBROK?)" and the name seems to be more applicable and acceptable for teenagers, and so I asked back "apa itu GEBROK? (what is GEBROK?)" "Gerakan berhenti

Third Question: Did you had fun cooperating with CIMSA? dr. Allen : Yes I had! It was very fun! The funny thing about it is that the members of CIMSA can produce so many ideas that were more creative, that we didn’t even thought about it. One day they came to me and said "dok kita ini bikin film (doc, we made a film)", and I asked 71

back "film apa?(what film?)" and they showed me the film and the film is truly a result and product from CIMSA, and the film was very good! After that they uploaded it to YouTube, and for me that is amazing how they are able to utilize social media in a positive manner. At that time they made a drama film about med school, and they made It in a very artistic way, in which they paid attention in every aspect of making the film, from the choreography, the lighting and the editing. This showed me that CIMSA is serious in what they do and don’t fool around about it. I’m proud of CIMSA hahahahaha!

student. And the fact that they take advantage an organization, as a place for maturation, where they could grow and mature, and at the end it will support their profession as a doctor. I hope they could keep it that way! Don’t let too much work in o r g an i z a t i o n c a u s e y o u r medschool go to disaster. Remember, the main objective here is to study and graduate, becoming a doctor on time! Now, UKMPPD (Ujian Kompetensi Mahasiswa Profesi Dokter) is put into your study time, and you must remember that you have a time frame in your study, if you surpass that; you should know that Drop Out is possible, and this is official.

Fourth Question : What are your expectation for CIMSA members? dr. Allen : I expect that members of CIMSA keep developing their positive characteristics, not only in CIMSA but also in every aspect of your life, that we have to be commit, discipline, professional, keep developing, creative, and all of these are the aspect that you have to develop in every moment in your life. And more over, I am proud of the members of CIMSA because they are able to manage time between being a organizer and a

72

What I meant in good health is not only physically, but also spiritually healthy. My true wish for CIMSA is that CIMSA must be able to create one project or event that can make an influence to the world; an event that can become a pioneer of a huge movement that could change world health. I believe, after seeing their amazing creativity, CIMSA UPH can produce something that can be noted by the world, a movement that will be known as

Although you have finished all your rotation, but failed your UKMPPD until 7 times, Drop Out is plausible. So, be careful! Don’t lose your focus in your med school because that is our hope for students, to graduate and become a great doctor. I believe CIMSA is an organization that supports your career very much and also shapes your attitude, identity, and personality in becoming a good doctor. I also want to remind members of CIMSA, to take care of their health! Don’t let businesses in both fields consumes you to the point you forgot get proper sleep and proper meal. The most important thing is good health must be maintained, because with good health you can do anything.

“

I believe, after seeing CIMSA’s members amazing creativity, CIMSA UPH can produce something that can be noted by the world!

“

“This was pioneered by CIMSA UPH Students”. That is what I hope from CIMSA. Amin Hahahaha

73

Fifth Question : in your opinion, which are the programs of CIMSA that has given an impact on society, and what more can we improve?

advertising is human, not paper; especially on giving advice and life lessons. For instance, the mentors in the program GEBROK are already equipped with knowledge that can be useful in their future medical practice. You might not see it now, but indirectly it’s already useful for your family and friends when they ask you about medical questions. You can already tell them what you’ve learned in medical school. What we hope from these

dr. Allen: I myself hold the principle of “It’s better to do small things rather than nothing at all”. I believe that no matter how small a doing is, there must be a tiny bit of impact, be it only 5 to 10%. If you’re able to be impactful on someone, that someone can spread that same impact to many other people. I also believe that the best form of

74

programs is to touch their hearts so that they can realize and stop their habit of smoking. We should understand that it’s really not easy to stop smoking immediately, and that is why we need a follow-up program. CIMSA should come up with a way to evaluate these postGEBROK subjects to maintain their behavior of quitting smoking cigarettes. There might be a few who slipped back to their old habit of smoking that we still have to observe in another program. This program benefits both subjects and mentors. Even if there’s no behavioral change yet, at least there’s an addition of knowledge which can lead to that. Behavioral change is expected to be maintained, however CIMSA haven’t co n du cte d t h is sur ve y o f maintenance yet. We collected the data of who stopped smoking, but not who stay quit and why they’re tempted to go back to smoking. If only CIMSA can conduct a program with a bigger population; like all high schools from Tangerang, the publication can reach a bigger audience like through international journals. This is why a detailed database is needed. A project without database can never be published; thus less impactful. I

think all CIMSA programs have to be published so that it can be heard by public in the future. It might be a big effort, but I think it’ll be great as it’s not that difficult anymore to reach the international world through social media.

Sixth Question : In your opinion, what can be improved from CIMSA UPH’s vision and mission? On the vision part, it’s better if an achievement year is added. A vision is something we desire; which may be a dream, but we need to target on what year do we want to achieve it. After setting a time target, we have to set the stepping stone, steps we have to accomplish to achieve the vision. Therefore, CIMSA projects have to be focused. A vision doesn’t need too broad but it has to big and meaningful, and all projects have to be focused on achieving this vision. By focusing on achieving one vision, projects can be planned and organized better. Writer : Andy William Editor : Felicia Frite

f you search for “The Best Countries for Medical Schools” on Google, you’ll find Germany in every top 5 or at least top 10 lists showed by trusted surveys; alongside USA and UK. Germany captured my attention because of its reputation among Indonesian people for its medical education. Unlike Indonesia where students had to pay expensive costs to study medicine, Germany provides students free, high quality education. Besides, as a medical student with an obsession of football and have been a fan of Germany National Team since so long, going to Germany would be a dream come true.

At first, I thought it will be difficult to pass the whole month without a friend to share my activities with, especially in the hospital. Surprisingly, I ended up fine. I survived and lived every moment in Marburg joyfully. I took home many great lessons for medicine and for life. Instead of feeling lonely, I chose to feel happy and explored the city by myself.
