The Grooming Show – A Fantastic Success

The first live grooming show in two years took place at the Kennel Club Buildings, Stoneleigh on July 18th thanks to the hard work of organisers, Julie Lalou, Lia-Jayne Henderson and Denise Westbrook.

A sell-out success, the show took place on one of the hottest days of the year so far, with competitors and spectators coming from all parts of the country to enjoy seminars, shopping and the spectacle of some of the country’s top groomers competing for the Best in Show title.

Organiser, Lia Henderson, said: “We had a fantastic turn out of over 250 and had over 12 trade stands. Over 10 classes and all nearly at the capped status. We want to thank Mutneys for sponsoring our BIS and Suzanne Clarke P&W UK for sponsoring RBIS

“Everyone was fab and all played their part in-line with Covid restrictions - wearing masks, hand sanitising, social distancing.

“The grooms were outstanding from all competitors, judges were really struggling with placings and couldn’t believe how high the standards were and it was so nice to be in the grooming world environment again; seeing all the people you’ve missed over lockdown and seeing your grooming friends again.”

Sophie Fury was crowned Best In Show with a wire-haired Fox Terrier called Lord.

She said: “It was a last minute decision for me to compete because I didn’t have a dog to take but it definitely paid off - we went and won Best in Show! I was gobsmacked and overwhelmed as there were so many other fabulous grooms.

“I was honoured to groom Lord the Fox Terrier. Unfortunately, he isn’t my dog and I groomed him for the very first time at the competition. He was stunning! He stood on the table like a statue, his tail always up, it was a pleasure to handstrip him.

“I feel that the trophy belongs more to him than to me.

Huge thanks to Costin (Lord’s owner) trusting me and allowing me to use him in the competition. I couldn’t have won without them!

“Thanks to the organisers for a great show.”
