The butterfly effect Stuck for inspiration for when your doors re-open? Fear not, nail technician and Navy Brand Champion, Charlotte Herberts, has put together a stunning and easy to follow step-by-step guide to a design which is guaranteed happiness.

harlotte Herberts started in the nail and Beauty industry in August 2019 when she began her training in a salon. After completing the first few initial courses, we went into lockdown. Charlotte was determined to continue pursuing her career as a nail technician, so she continued learning, this time using online courses. In August 2020, Charlotte took the plunge and started her own business: “That’s when my career started. I love this industry, and I’m so pleased to be a part of it.
Charlotte’s top tips: I’m obsessed with sheer base colours for the underneath of a nail art look. My favourite products for this are Bio Sculpture pots and to get precise lines; a good fine liner brush is a musthave. I recommend Bio Sculpture Upper Arch Bling Brush as that’s the tool I used. Finally, ensure you prep the nails when beginning, without a good prep, application on your client’s nails will not be the same.

be the same without them.” Charlotte explained that she chose a butterfly-themed look to demonstrate in this step-by-step guide as she saw @prettylittleyoustamford create this on her Instagram and “absolutely fell in love.” “The design made me feel happy, so I wanted to recreate the look but put my stamp on it. I hope it will make your clients feel the same way as I did.” Added Charlotte.

I started by prepping the nails and cuticles and ensured any dead tissue was removed from the nail. Then I buffed and filed the nails (this will be to your client’s preferred shape.) Next, I used a damp Navy Dolly Cloth to cleanse the nail, making sure I had a clean and blank canvas to work with.
Next, it was time to apply the base coat. I used Evo Contour and Build Base, then cured for 60 seconds, followed by wiping and refining. Next, I applied two coats of Lyrics of a Lily and cure for 60 seconds. This step was finished by using the Evo Gloss Top-Coat and again cured for a minute
I then used Suede Matte Top-Coat on all the nails and cured for 60 seconds. Once cured, I wiped over with Bio Sculpture Multi Cleanse and buffed with a 220 grip buffer.

In this step, I applied Brillbird Brush and went in with 02 black to paint the corners for the butterflies, overlapping them in the middle. I then cured for 60 seconds.
Once cured, I used the Magpie Elizabeth Chrome and gently rubbed it into the black gel with a Magpie Chrome Applicator. Following this, I then brushed the loose bits of chrome off using the Magpie Chrome Duster Brush.
After the chrome was brushed off, I applied the Evo Gloss Top-Coat and cured for 60 seconds. Once cured, I wiped the nails with Bio Sculpture Multi Cleanse. Next, with my Upper Arch Fine Liner Brush, I painted out the line which made the butterfly. Then I scooped over my Cuccio Acrylic Powder so the line was covered entirely, I tapped off excess powder and cured. I then repeated this for the white lines. Once the whole hand was cured, I dusted over with my Bio Sculpture Dusting Brush and then wiped with lint-free wipes and Multi Cleanse. To finish, I applied Navy Cuticle Balm.
