Perfectly pastel In a time where nail art is high in demand, nail technician Daisy Lloyd-Hazlegreaves (@nails_and_beauty_by_daisy), has put together a step-by-step guide on their ‘go-to’ Spring look.

5 year old, Wirral-based Daisy has always been a creative, explaining that they loved art and design at school and studied Fashion Design at Leeds. Daisy began her journey as a nail technician during the pandemic when they got their nails done and I decided to get some nail art: “I watched the process the entire time and I was hooked; the nail technician drew on all of the art by hand. It was such an enjoyable and relaxing experience and it made me think ‘I could definitely see myself doing this’.” Daisy saw that it was the perfect creative role for them, so they got themselves on a gel polish course and began their nail tech journey at the end of 2020: “I used lockdown as a chance to practice nail art and try new designs before I started working at the salon. I absolutely fell in love with hand drawing designs on nails and nearly all of my clients love getting designs on their nails.”

Daisy created this vibrant pastel spring set because they felt it was the perfect mid-late spring look; it is spring/summer transitional and the colours can be edited to match the season. “I picked five gorgeous pastel colours from The Gel Bottle with a vibrant pink for the leaves and a bright white for the daisies to contrast against the pastel stripes. This look can be executed on natural nails or extensions. “I chose to use gel extensions (I use

My client loved coffin shaped nails so we decided to go for that nail shape, but I believe this look would also look great on almond or square nails. I have demonstrated how to nail this look with step by step images and also a video showing how I executed the design which can be found on my TikTok account (@nails_beauty_by_daisy).”
Daisy’s three top tips on how to nail this look: 1. Choosing the correct tools to ‘nail’ the design – I use a super thin nail art brush (BQAN 7mm brush) and because of the brushes slightly weighted pen like body, it is so easy to control when drawing on the finer details 2. Pick six gorgeous colours that complement each other (they don’t have to be the colours I have used). Always involve the client in the creative process and get their opinions and colour preferences. Be creative - take your time and trust the process!

Apply 3-4 coats of The Gel Bottle Marshmallow to the nails once nails have been prepped and filed into desired shape.
Choose 2 pastel colours and apply two coats upon the thumb and pinkie nail. I chose The Gel Bottle Blue wave and Carries Cosmo.
Using your liner brush, apply the 6 colours in varying lengths from the cuticle on the ring finger and middle finger. Leave gaps in between the colours and flash cure in the lamp, then apply more colours in the gaps so that the colours do not run.

Add the floral details using a liner brush and dotting tool. I chose a bright pink to draw the leaves and with a white colour for the flowers, picking various colours to dot the centre of the flowers with. Pick one of the 6 pastel colours and draw the alternate triangular French design on the index finger. I chose The gel Bottle Peach Daiquiri for the French colour.
Add a simple leaf design and flower to the French to complete the look and tie in the whole design. I chose The Gel Bottle Capri for the leaves and used Bleeding Heart for the colour in the centre of the flower. Apply The Gel Bottle Extreme Shine top coat followed by Cuti-Sticks cuticle oil and the look is complete!
