FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS. Q) Do I need to have done any other exam before doing the ICMG? A) No, this is a stand-alone exam, starting with bathing/ drying and prep work and a simple kennel trim, to show your competency with all equipment and understanding of role of prep in commercial salon. This then leads you on to Track 2: (Certified Advanced Professional Groomer) and then Track 3: (International Certified Master Groomer). Q) Will I be fully qualified when I’ve done Track 1and Track 2? A) No, but you will carry a qualification after each track, i.e. Track 1; Certified Professional Groomer. Track 2; Certified Advanced Professional Groomer. Q) How long do I have to complete my ICMG? A) You have 5 years to complete your ICMG from taking the first exam (Track 1) Q) Where can I take ICMG exam and is there a centre near me? A) There are centres around the country. You may have to travel, but if this isn’t possible, we can either come to your salon (there is a cost involved, dependent on where you live), or now come to you via Zoom Video Link, for both Practical and Written Certifications, for a smaller fee. Q) How much will the ICMG cost me? A) the total cost of ICMG is £1335 (excluding resits) and can be paid for in full or paid “as you go” for each module plus Zoom or Salon Fees. Q) Do I need to keep my membership payment up annually? A) Yes, you do. In order to keep your qualification, your membership must be paid Annually, this not only gives you the advantage of keeping your qualification current but gives you the security of having the support and help that ICMG is known for. Q) Do I supply my own dogs for ICMG exam? A) Yes, you do, but if you’re finding it difficult, you can advertise on the ICMG Facebook Group or if attending one of our schools for exam, they may be able provide you with a suitable dog. Q) Where can I train or have a refresher course? A) Of course, we recommend our own schools. These are independent establishments but run to our exacting standards. This means that wherever you train (in an ICMG school), the training will be done properly by fully qualified ICMG’s. All staff are also qualified or working towards ICMG. Our Tutors and schools are quality assessed annually and all examinations are externally assessed. Some of our schools have accommodation or can recommend quality B&B. Q) If I don’t pass a written or practical, can I re-sit? A) Yes, you can. It will cost you part of the component that you failed, i.e. failed written will cost only that part, not the entire module.
