Land acknowledgement

We acknowledge that we are located on unceded Indigenous lands. The Kanien’kehá:ka Nation is recognized as the custodian of the lands and waters on which operate. Tiohtià:ke/Montréal is historically known as a gathering place for many First Nations. Today, it is home to a diverse population of Indigenous and other peoples. We respect the continued connections with the past, present and future in our ongoing relationships with Indigenous and other peoples within the Montreal community.

“I think at different stages of my career, CIM brings me different things. As a student or young professional, it was really about the technical content, the learning, and my professional network. Later, it was a lot about networking, benchmarking, and looking at what is happening in the industry. I think that’s going to continue to evolve throughout my career.”

Impact: Branches & Societies

CIM’s 12 technical societies and 26 local branches unite industry professionals from diverse disciplines and career stages. Their collaborative efforts shape leading practices across the minerals, metals, and energy industries through the development of standards, guidelines, workshops, webinars, and conference presentations.

CIM introduces Innovation was Technology Society to drive industry competitiveness

Launched at CIM CONNECT 2025, the new Innovation & Technology Society of CIM (ITS) will help to accelerate the development and adoption of solutions to the industry’s most pressing challenges.

ITS is a call to action stemming from CIM’s strategic planning, and inspired by many conversations with people across the industry who are dissatisfied with the current pace of innovation and the loss of value this represents.

“Through ITS, we can help make the Canadian minerals, metals, and energy sectors more competitive, relevant, sustainable, and responsible,” explained ITS Chair, Laura Mottola, who is a specialist in mining optimization and continuous improvement. “We need industry partners, vendors, manufacturers, researchers, government and community leaders who are committed to this cause.”

Early discussions for the ITS executive include shaping the first ITS symposium in 2026 and determining the focus and methodology the society will take to achieve its mission.

MRMRS—Building Strategic Realignment

Last November, CIM Council approved the launch of the Mineral Resources & Mineral Reserves Society of CIM (MRMRS). This strategic shift transformed the former MRMR Committee and the Geological Society of CIM into a revitalized, forward-looking community. The new MRMRS reflects CIM’s commitment to growth and inclusion and creates a strong foundation for our members to lead, learn, and shape the industry together. CIM members in good standing should contact CIM Society Liaison Jennifer Breaux to get involved.

The Power of Our Community

Our technical societies and branches are where the spirit of CIM comes alive. We are a community of professionals who come together to share insights, solve challenges, and support one another. By becoming an active participant, you’re not just joining CIM. You’re directly contributing to the collective knowledge of our industry and helping us all build a stronger future.

Operational Excellence

Trust and efficiency are paramount to delivering consistent value. Guided by our strategic plan, we consistently refine how CIM works for you. Beginning last fall and continuing through the next three years, we are making internal processes more transparent and streamlined so you can focus on what matters most to you.

CIM’s New By-Law #2: Modernizing and strengthening governance for the future

This foundational document establishes a robust framework that clarifies accountability, fosters organizational consistency, and safeguards inclusive decision-making. Guided by expert counsel and the Governance Committee, Bylaw #2 is currently undergoing comprehensive consultation with our volunteer leadership, and crucially, our members, ensuring it shapes our collective success.

Advancing

Operational Clarity: Terms of Reference Update

Our commitment to operational excellence extends to ensuring every part of CIM operates with clarity and transparency. We’ve made significant progress in developing comprehensive Terms of Reference for our four Council Committees (Executive, Audit & Risk, Human Resources & Compensation, and Governance). A new Society Terms of Reference template will be ready for review by volunteer executives in Fall 2025, followed by a new Branch Terms of Reference template later in the year.

The Collaboration Series: Let’s Start Talking

You are the bridge between CIM’s mission and local communities

As leaders on the ground, you turn strategy into action every day. The work you do within our branches and societies connects local and technical communities to a shared purpose. It’s your work that brings our collective goals to life.

This Collaboration Series is meant to make space for your voices. When our strategic pillars are taken up by branches and societies – led by people like you – they become more than ideas. Collaboration doesn’t scale from the top down. It grows from the middle out. You are that middle. Your leadership gives our collective vision momentum.

Sign up for our newsletter to stay up to date on upcoming Collaboration Series events.

CIM’s Competitive Advantage

CIM is the only Canadian organization that unites the full mining life cycle— operators, suppliers, government, academia, and students—under one roof and 12 technical societies devoted to topics including resource definition, metallurgy, and mine closure.

New look for CIM societies

CIM’s transformation began in 2024 with a rebrand and new logo. The renewal continued in 2025 with new logos for each of our 12 technical societies, reflecting our commitment to helping the industry transition toward a better future.

President’s Message

CIM’s membership remains a vibrant collective of experts, innovators, and leaders who are focused on shaping a responsible and prosperous future for Canada’s resource industry. Our shared purpose is the foundation of our progress and I’m pleased to relay that significant advancement has occurred across all of CIM’s strategic pillars.

In technical excellence, we continue to empower our members with critical, cutting-edge knowledge. At our Executive Committee meeting in June, we held a workshop to identify ways to provide meaningful and relevant content to deliver on our value proposition for our members and corporate partners. The initiative was a meaningful first step in aligning content with members’ priorities, and we look forward to continuing this work in the months ahead.

The strength of our community has never been more evident. We had recordbreaking attendance at CIM

CONNECT—2025, which provided opportunities to cultivate deep support. Our branches and societies continue to do vital work, and the level of membership engagement and networking remains unparalleled.

Operational excellence remains core to CIM’s success, with continued focused efforts on long-term organizational resilience and integrity. Given my financial and governance experience, I recognize the critical importance of sound financial stewardship and sustained effectiveness—reflected in initiatives like our by-laws modernization.

Our momentum in the first half of 2025 is a testament to the exceptional staff, the tireless commitment of volunteers, and the active engagement of our members. Your contributions are the very engine of CIM’s success.

Looking ahead, I am optimistic for the remainder of 2025 and beyond. CIM is steadfast in its role as the trusted authority and collective source for advancing knowledge and leading practices in Canada’s minerals, metals, and energy sectors. We are building on a strong foundation—and our willingness to collaborate at a large scale to achieve industry success is exciting.

I invite each of you to continue your active participation in this important journey. Your expertise, your voice, and your engagement are not just valued— they are integral to shaping our collective future.

With sincere gratitude and optimism for what lies ahead,
