Leading in Mining CIM Leadership Development Program CIM’s comprehensive Leadership Development Program specifically designed for mining, minerals & materials industry professionals

What makes Leading in Mining unique? The LEADING IN MINING CIM Leadership Development Program is unlike any other: four combined elements make it unique and incredibly effective.

One industry: learning more about the industry

LEADING IN MINING is a program for all management levels and positions from the mining, minerals and materials industry. Participants share solutions, targeting industryspecific leadership challenges. For example, the CIM program brings mine superintendents together with investor relations professionals, effectively broadening their knowledge of the entire industry and gaining a better understanding of all aspects of the industry.

Different organizations: freedom to speak openly

LEADING IN MINING is a program for people from different organizations. While effective leaders must freely state their views in a way that can be heard, participants in many in-house leadership programs are cautious in how they choose to share and challenge other’s views. This is avoided in this program, which allows participants to engage fully unencumbered by the politics of the organization. This in turn leads to a more vigorous exploration of issues, significantly enhances skill development and ultimately results in the development of confidence and skill in speaking one’s truth.

Hierarchical mix: new appreciation and awareness

Regardless of one’s level in the hierarchy, all leaders need to effectively interact with others. Yet most leadership programs are designed solely for those at the same level of responsibility despite the fact we know leadership is non-hierarchical; we need leaders at every level. In LEADING IN MINING, experienced directors value the opportunity to explore their leadership skills alongside superintendents for whom it is their first experience of reflecting on their leadership skills, with unique and powerful results. Participants from various hierarchical levels learn about environments they are unaware of or have lost touch with, and gain a new appreciation of those at other levels. The CIM leadership development program breaks down hierarchical barriers.

Action, not just knowledge

Every 15 to 30 seconds, employees will subconsciously discard knowledge that is unnecessary for meeting their day-to-day work requirements. Therefore leadership skills that cannot be immediately applied to an leaders’ job role will likely be forgotten before they have an opportunity to be used. This explains why only 27% of participants in other leadership programs find their programs to be effective. LEADING IN MINING is different. As participants acquire new information, so they have to apply it – now, not many months or years in the future.
