Excited to share CienciaPR's 2017-2018 Report!

Our Mission is To democratize science and transform science education by engaging and empowering a diverse global community of scientists, students, educators and allies.

In 2017 we embarked on a new strategic direction: Transforming Science Education in Puerto Rico

To accomplish our new strategic direction, we defined 3 strategic goals:

1. FOCUS ON THE PROCESS OF SCIENCE

2. PROMOTE AN ENGAGED CIENCIAPR COMMUNITY

3. ESTABLISH A STRONG ORGANIZATION

FOCUS ON THE PROCESS OF SCIENCE

Through our new project, Ciencia al Servicio, we bring together scientists and teachers to co-create science lessons relevant to the Puerto Rican context and to empower students to solve problems they observe in their communities.

Over the last year, through Ciencia al Servicio we have trained >150 teachers and impacted >1,100 students through science lessons that integrate inquiry, research, and community

We have also connected amazing scientists with teachers and students by training them in science communication and giving them opportunities to share their passion for science

A STRONG ORGANIZATION

We're proud of our achievements during the past two years and are excited to share them with you in this Biennial Report.

Supporting the Scientific Community After Hurricane Maria Immediately after Hurricanes Irma and Maria, we created a registry to collect offers and requests for aid to support scientists and students impacted by the disasters. More than 450 offers were received from around the world. CienciaPR collaborated with the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Caribbean Division and the Puerto Rico Science Trust to create a small grants program for scientists and students affected by the hurricanes.
