Dear Friends, Today, global understanding is more fragile than it has been in recent memory. In these challenging times, the mission of CIEE takes on even more urgency and importance. CIEE was founded in the wake of World War II to build bridges of mutual understanding between people, nations, and cultures through study abroad and international exchange programs. Since 1947, we have advanced peace and prosperity by preparing generations of leaders who better understand the world beyond national borders and engage it with empathy, curiosity, and a deep sense of shared humanity. However, financial barriers keep too many talented young people from accessing the transformative intercultural learning experiences that would prepare them for success in our interconnected and multicultural world. Our goal is to change this.
A scholarship at the right moment can change the trajectory of a student’s life.
To expand access to study abroad and global internships for high school and college students, we are proud to launch our first fundraising campaign, CIEE’s 80th Anniversary Fund for Global Engagement. The ambitious goal of this campaign is to raise funds to support 1,000 study abroad and global internship scholarships. In celebration of CIEE’s milestone anniversary, we are committed to matching every gift of $2,500 or more, to double the impact of gifts that are received and accelerate the creation of new scholarships. These investments will open doors for students at pivotal moments in their lives, equipping them with the skills, perspective, and resilience needed to navigate an increasingly complex world. The Need Has Never Been Greater The urgent need to support scholarships for study abroad and global internships is compounded by a decline in government support for global programs and growing income inequality. International education is becoming more difficult to afford. We cannot expand access alone. Philanthropic investment is essential to ensure that the next generation of global leaders, from all socioeconomic backgrounds, get the experiences that will shape them. For many students, cost — not talent or ambition — is the barrier.
