continued from page 9 Due to a diagnosed learning disability, Billy had to attend “special” classes and was told in high school not to attend college because he would never make it. Billy had the epiphany; “you can become bitter or better”, therefore he chose to see his obstacles as steppingstones. This is when he realized he had something to talk about and could bring value to others. Billy shares his thoughts on becoming a successful speaker. “First to become a successful speaker or chef for that matter, you must decide it’s what you are going to do. You must know, not think, it is what you are supposed to do. I hear many people say, “I think this is what I am supposed to be doing.” While this seems to be a no-brainer, many people stay on the fence and never sell out to what they are doing. Be sure to hone your skills. As a chef, I constantly developed recipes. As a speaker, you should be writing and developing talks, daily. Practice, but do not merely practice, practice perfectly. You hear, “practice makes perfect.” It’s a lie! Perfect practice makes perfect so make sure you practice your talks perfectly. Lastly, work to deliver talks. As a chef my food was no good if I cooked it but could not serve it. Work to speak weekly so you can get your story out. Food is of no use if it stays in the refrigerator or pantry. Your story is no good and can help no one if you keep it to yourself and do not share it.” Click the book to grab your copy and connect with Billy via The Results Foundation:
