Have you ever met someone that had that ‘It’ factor? I mean they have something about them that makes them unique and stand out from everyone around them. Their Spiritual presence sparks of a quiet confidence that cannot be denied. This was my first impression when I met (virtually) Dr. La Donya Yvette. At the time she did not carry the title of Doctor but everything about her screamed wisdom beyond her years. She is a soft-spoken person with a wealth of knowledge that wants to make the world a better place one inspiration at a time. She is truly gifted with her words and so well versed and knowledgeable that I just knew she carried the title of “Doctor.” After I mistakenly sent her a draft of the March 2021 cover of Next Generation Speaker Magazine with the title Dr. La Donya Yvette, she quickly corrected me by saying that she wasn’t a Doctor. We laugh about it until this day as she said that I had spoken it into existence; because on November 20, 2021 she officially received her Honorary Doctorate Degree of Philosophy in Humanities which was affirmed, confirmed and presented by Dr. Clyde Rivers (Founder of iChange Nations), officially enthroned Royal Throne name HRH Okogyeman Kobina Amissah I of Ekumfi Kuotukwa Kingdom in Ghana, Africa. Over the last year I have had a front row seat to her very own transformation and Global presence. She has dealt with unimaginable tragedy and loss in her life and yet seems to live up to her created hashtags #ADTTP #AlwaysDefaultToThePositive, and #ALLin. She continues to hold true to her calling to help individuals with her Global initiative The Y.O.U. Code that helps you to discover Your Own Uniqueness, but her journey is far from over. Dr. La Donya is a Certified Clarity Coach with her C.L.E.A.R. (Clarity-Leverage-Execute-Action-Results) Coaching. She has also created G.I.R.L. PowHER (Gladiators-Inspire-Remarkable-Ladies)! Most common New Year’s Resolutions What Goals Will YOU Set For 2022? Happy New Year! 2021 is now a thing of the past. Setting realistic goals and expectations and being emotionally ready to change are essential to keeping New Year’s resolutions. As the new year approaches, it is time to start thinking about goals for 2022. From losing weight to saving money, Americans make a wide variety of resolutions each year, some of which they stick to and some of which they don’t. To help you drum up ideas for your 2022 resolutions, Statisica Study (statista.com) rounded up the most common New Year’s resolutions made in 2021. According to the of 1,500 Americans, the top three resolutions for 2021 were exercising more, losing weight and saving more money. Fifty percent of respondents said they were focused on exercising more, 48% said they wanted to lose weight and 44% said they wanted to save more money. “While some might say that they do not need New Year’s Eve to finally turn their life around, making resolutions on December 31 is a common, well-liked tradition, especially in the Western world. They are usually meant to contain some kind of improvement or betterment of one’s conduct or life choices,” the Statista study said. Other popular resolutions included: • • • • • • • • •
Improving diet: 39% of respondents Pursuing a career ambition: 21% of respondents Spending more time with family: 18% of respondents Taking up a new hobby: 14% of respondents Spending less time on social media: 13% of respondents Quitting smoking: 10% of respondents Decorating or renovating a home: 10% of respondents Volunteering more or doing charity work: 10% of respondents Raising money for a charity: 5% of respondents

• Cutting down on drinking: 4% of respondents • Quitting drinking entirely: 2% of respondents • Something else: 14% of respondents “These resolutions are not compulsive; only a small share of people who make them actually keep them. …They are more like a signal for a new start than an actual catalyst for change,” the study read. According to another Statista study in 2018, only 4% of survey respondents stuck to all of their new year’s resolutions and only 8% stuck to most of their goals. Thirteen percent of people didn’t stick to any of their resolutions. I would like to share a playbook by Dr. Lynn Richardson, who offers a checklist for a new beginning in 2022: 1. Change your mindset – As a man thinketh, so is he! As a woman thinketh, so is she! Change your thinking and you will change your life. 2. Write in a journal - Thoughts disentangle themselves when you write. 3. Live below your means – If you make $100K per year, you should not spend $400K. I you have $10, you should not spend $20. Focus on eliminating debt this year. 4. Check your energy – Your energy is like money in the bank, once you spend it, it is gone. If you are full of love and possibility, then that is what you will attract. Your energy matters! 5. Smile through conflict – There is a much better way to getting what you want then to succumb to the conflict. People will only work with people they like. Smile to get the outcome you want in your career and in your life. What will your resolutions be heading into 2022? …AND… Will you stick to them? Why It’s Needed Looking Out For Future Generations Leadership is needed more today than ever. The success or failure of any company, organization, or group depends on not just Leadership, but the type of Leadership. I’m not sure if you are familiar with the CEO of the Chrysler Corporation during the 1980s. He is credited for rescuing the company that appeared to be on the verge of going out of business and had just sold its loss-making Chrysler Europe division to Peugeot to generate cash because the company was losing millions already in North America. Because of the recalls of its Dodge Aspen and Plymouth Volare, both of which Iacocca later said should never have been built. Lee Iacocca joined Chrysler and began rebuilding the entire company from the ground up and bringing in many former associates from Ford. Lee Iacocca brought Chrysler back from the brink of bankruptcy but he did it in such a way as to cripple the company for future growth. As leaders, we should consider those that are coming behind us and the ones who will charge headlong into the future. We not only give them the tools they need for today, we need to provide them with the inspiration to carry on long after we are gone. In the book Good to Great, Jim Collins discusses a leadership model he calls “A genius with a thousand helpers.” It describes a leader who is good at what he/she does and so he/she calls all the shots. 11

This is exactly what Lee Iacocca was known for. However, unwilling to teach the followers, the leader retains all of the knowledge of the organization’s decision making philosophy. When something went wrong or questions arise, everyone must rely on the leader for direction. Due to the lack of knowledge, when the leader leaves, the group is lost. The type of leadership that you want to have should be forward-thinking. It should look to the future as a guide for the present. Setting them up for success not only gives them a head start on any problems they may encounter. It also provides them with a framework to go by when they are in a leadership position. They will spend time preparing their successor to take over after they are gone. In an April 2009 Newsweek interview, Iacocca reflected on his time spent at Chrysler and the company’s current situation. He said, “This is a sad day for me. It pains me to see my old company, which has meant so much to America, on the ropes. But Chrysler has been in trouble before, and we got through it, and I believe they can do it again. If they’re smart, they’ll bring together a consortium of workers, plant managers, and dealers to come up with real solutions. These are the folks on the front lines, and they’re the key to our survival. Let’s face it, if your car breaks down, you’re not going to take it to the White House to get fixed. But, if your company breaks down, you’ve got to go to the experts on the ground, not the bureaucrats. Every day I talk to dealers and managers, who are passionate and full of ideas. No one wants Chrysler to survive more than they do. So I’d say to the Obama administration, don’t leave them out. Put their passion and ideas to work.” Now had Mr. Iacocca employed that same technique while working there, maybe the company would have been able to survive beyond his tenure. We have to be able to look down the road to anticipate the leadership needs and do our part in setting up the next generation for success. We also have to set good examples for those coming behind us. List some ways that you can set up the next generation for success?
