Alexandria Bay Team Begins to Wrap Up Phase 2

Since August 2017, the Cianbro team, alongside joint venture partner Northland Associates Inc., has been working on the modernization and expansion of the U.S. Land Port of Entry at Alexandria Bay in Upstate New York. The project is broken up into two phases. Phase 1, which was completed in January 2020, included:

• The construction of a commercial inspection warehouse and inspection bays.

• Commercial inspection lanes.

• Non-intrusive inspection buildings.

• A portion of elevated parking over the commercial side.

Phase 2 includes:

• The Main Building.

• Secondary enclosed and open-air inspection.

• Non-commercial inspection lanes.

• Wastewater treatment plant.

• Animal and Plant Health Inspection Services (APHIS) building.

• Outbound inspection.

• The remainder of the parking garage.

Throughout the winter, the team will finish the demo of the existing structures. In the spring of 2022, they’ll complete the earthwork and final paving on the north end.

“The team has worked really well together, even in the face of some challenges that I know a lot of job sites were also facing,” said Charlie Cianchette, noting that COVID-19 and lack of tradespeople have been the biggest barriers. “We’ve maintained a high level of teamwork throughout both phases of the project and remain committed to closing out the project in the spring.”
