hree compressor stations, six months. The function of a gas compressor station is simple, compress the gas, create more pressure between stations, and move more gas through the pipeline. The method to meet this objective, although simple, is not easy: have the three stations completely operational before November 1, 2007. Starting two stations on the same day and the third two months later and finishing all three on the same day, was a bit of a challenge; however that is what we like.

The Tennessee Gas Pipeline (TGP) stations located in Carlisle, West Winfield, and Lafayette, New York, have gone through many changes. Built over 55 years ago they are key to the transport of gas from the west to the east. These compressor stations are a part of a Please see TENNESSEE GAS, page 35

Cianbro appoints Pete Vigue Chairman of the Board

P

ITTSFIELD, Maine — On January 1, 2008, Pete Vigue, Cianbro’s President and Chief Executive Officer, was appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors for The Cianbro Companies. On the same date, Andi Vigue was appointed President and Chief Operating Officer of Cianbro Corporation.

Cianbro operations encompass a family of companies including its East Coast construction organization; Fabrication & Coatings Facilities in Pittsfield, Maine, and Baltimore, Maryland; and the new Eastern Manufacturing Facility in Brewer, Maine, among other innovative and expanding operations.

Pete Vigue, a 37-year Cianbro veteran, has been at the leading edge of much of Cianbro’s growth. Pete, a Maine Maritime Academy graduate, joined Cianbro in 1970 as a laborer. Working through the ranks, Pete embraced every Cianbro project as an opportunity to learn and grow. In 1991, the Cianchette brothers decided it was the appropriate time to start transitioning leadership of the company to the next generation, and

Pete was chosen to be President. Pete became Cianbro’s Chief Executive Officer in 2000.

Andi Vigue, son of Pete Vigue, joined Cianbro in 1990 as a laborer during college. Over the years, Andi worked through the construction ranks, managed Cianbro’s Fabrication & Coatings Facilities, and most recently served as Senior Vice President of Operations for Cianbro Corporation. Andi earned B.S. (Civil Engineering) and MBA degrees from the University of Maine.

Bud Cianchette, Cianbro’s outgoing Chairman of the Board, will now serve as Chairman Emeritus. He and his brother Ken remain active members of Cianbro’s Board of Directors. Older brother Carl passed away in 1997 and younger brother Chuck died in 2000.

Pete Vigue first met the Cianchette brothers over 50 years ago. “They shaped who I am today,” said Pete. “Cianbro still operates by the philosophy passed down by their father: treat people with dignity and respect, your word is your bond, and give back from which you take.

These remain Cianbro’s core values.”

C H A I RM A N ’ S M E S S A GE 2007 was a successful year for our companies on all fronts. Our team made improvements in the areas of safety, wellness, and productivity. Our 2007 volume of work exceeded our goals, we expanded our team, and our 2008 backlog is strong. We enter 2008 focusing on continued strong growth, building our team, and actively preparing the next generation of leaders for our organization’s future.

Our success is a result of your ability to work safely and proPETE VIGUE ductively as a team coupled with our philosophy of collaborating with all stakeholders recognizing no one is smarter than all of us. This approach allows Cianbro to develop solutions to complex issues and bring tremendous value to our customers.

We will continue to develop and nurture these important relationships with our customers and outside stakeholders; listening to their needs and helping solve their problems resulting in continued opportunities for our companies. As an example, our ability to develop a modular manufacturing facility in Brewer, Maine, resulted from a Cianbro project, and grew to be a community,

regional, and statewide initiative. Every stakeholder rolled up their sleeves and worked shoulder to shoulder to make things happen—fast. We went from concept, to design and permitting, to fullscale remediation and redevelopment on the site in a few months. I am proud to say manufacturing will begin at our facility in Brewer this spring for the development of the first U.S. oil refinery expansion project in over 30 years to be located in Port Arthur, Texas!

Our willingness to think outside the box is also allowing us to take on some very significant issues the construction industry faces in terms of workforce development, the application of technology, and utilization of alternative energy.

Collaborating with our client at the Destiny USA project in Syracuse, New York, our team’s commitment to innovation is producing important advances on several fronts, including a paperless work site where all information is shared electronically in real time with all stakeholders; a nontraditional workforce, hired based on their attitudes and aptitudes and trained onsite; and a green construction site utilizing biofuel.

As our companies grow, so does the need for additional team members. In 2008, we expect that we will add an additional 500 people to our team. We have expanded our recruitment and educational efforts company-wide. It is

important that we welcome these new people and help them become productive members of our team and assist us in achieving our goals.

For 59 years our company has gone through tremendous change—the markets we serve; the development of new skills; and the structure of our organization and its leadership. It is important that we continue these efforts in the future. Outside of ensuring the success of our companies, we will continue to work hard to prepare and transition to the next generation of leaders. That transition is underway and will be ongoing in the years to come. As we work through the transition, be assured that we will not change the core values the Cianchette Brothers taught us: treat people with dignity and respect, our word is our bond, and our responsibility to give back to our communities.

I’m extremely proud of every Cianbro team member and what you have accomplished. Healthy Lifestyle Program The Year in Review

irst of all, thank you and congratulations to the nearly 80% of Cianbro team members and spouses enrolled in the medical plan that are regular participants in the Healthy LifeStyle Program (HLP). You have reduced the rate of growth of Cianbro’s medical costs by an average of 10% over each of the last five years. Thanks to you, everyone at Cianbro is benefiting from the cost savings in both medical and pharmacy claims. You are also adding a boost to productivity and laying the groundwork for your own continued high quality of life, free from complications of preventable chronic illnesses like diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and stroke.

For the last four years, 70-74% of all HLP participants have remained in the low cost risk category. This year for the first time we have been able to look at costs within these risk groups. National data indicates that those in the low cost risk group spend on average 150% less than those in the high risk group.

60% also qualify for the new healthy living reward by meeting three of four health criteria; cholesterol, blood pressure, body mass index within acceptable range, and no tobacco use. Health educators will be working with participants to enhance the likelihood of change in these areas to help close the gap between participation levels and criteria fulfillment.

In 2006, for the first time, spouse medical claims exceeded employee costs. This has led to a renewed effort to visit with every spouse on a face-to-face basis as often as possible to help them accomplish the health behavior changes so many team members have already adopted. As a benefit to spouses, health educators offer day and evening hours at various locations for appointments.

Finally, a word about presenteeism at Cianbro. Absenteeism is not being at work and not doing your job. Presenteeism is being at work and not doing your job to the best of your ability. It is the most commonly encountered risk at Cianbro and many other companies. Distractions caused by family matters, financial issues, and illness can put you at risk for accident, injury, and further ill health while robbing the team of your productivity. HLP has developed a new identification and intervention effort to address this growing concern. We will help you recognize the problem and offer resources for problem control and resolution. Together we can prevent accidents, injuries, and illness while decreasing the major productivity losses due to these distractions. Company wide education about presenteeism will begin soon with emphasis on individual and supervisory roles in combating the problem.

Morgan’s Wharf Rehabilitation

he Morgan’s Wharf Bulkhead Rehabilitation proj-

ect located at the Mid-Atlantic Regional office in Baltimore, Maryland, is quickly approaching completion. The job includes construction of a new concrete bulkhead that measures 40 feet by 250 feet that will have an area designed to carry a 4100 Manitowoc Crane Series II Ringer. This is a major improvement to the yard facility because it will now allow open sea access for our fabrication facility and marine construction operations.

The existing bulkhead—once used to supply structural steel fabrication and deliveries for the construction of the Key Bridge over the Patapsco River—consisted of a timber pile supported relieving platform with a large concrete seawall that retained backfill. Since the elevation of the platform was in the tidal zone, over the years the site backfill began washing away and created large sink holes. This restricted access to the bulkhead and created a safety hazard for equipment and team members. The tides have also caused sandy soils and silt to slough back into the once dredged area, decreasing it to an average depth of only five feet at low tide. This created a major hurdle to mobilize marine equipment to or from the yard at low tide.

The new bulkhead is a cast-in-place slab supported on a precast 24 inch concrete pile foundation. We initiated construction by hoe-ramming the seawall’s top two feet and excavating to expose the timber deck relieving platform. A new sheet wall was then installed to retain the

landside soils. Next, holes were cut through the deck to allow for the installation of the concrete piles and 100 kip soil anchors were installed. After completion of the piles, the platform was backfilled and fine graded. Following that, reinforcement bar installation started along with formwork activities. The dredging is a concurrent operation to the landside work. A 92,000 sf area waterside of the bulkhead out to the existing channel will be excavated to an elevation of minus 16 feet at low tide.

The job consists of the following major activities: • Relieving platform excavation of 1,000 cy • Steel sheet installation of 150 tons • Installation of 121, 24 inch by 35 foot by 45 foot precast concrete piles • Installation of 150 tons of reinforcement steel • Placement of 1,300 cy of concrete • Installation of 13 helical soil anchors • Dredging of 25,000 cy • Construction of two timber pile dolphins • Installation of 400 lf of utility duct bank

With a very aggressive schedule, the team has overcome numerous barriers and focused its efforts on safety, detailed planning, and productivity for a successful finish.

Eastern Manufacturing Facility

n Monday, August 13, 2007, the first Cianbro team mobilized at the site of the former Eastern Fine Paper operations in Brewer, Maine. After months of discussions with the City of Brewer, a deal had been struck to transform this former paper mill into a modern manufacturing facility and to aggressively pursue a contract to construct “modules” on the site. The facility has been

officially named the Eastern Manufacturing Facility.

After lying vacant for more than three years, the site was a skeleton of its old self and virtually everything of value had been removed. An estimated 70 Cianbro team members are working on the rehabilitation of the three-story warehouse and the historic administration building which was used by Eastern Paper for almost 100 years. There are teams constructing a new waterfront bulkhead, electrical crews relocating an overhead high6

voltage transmission line, and crews removing contaminated soils. Meanwhile, our subcontractors (Costello Dismantlers, Northeast Environmental Services, Roof Systems of Maine, and Vaughn Thibodeau & Sons) are busy installing new underground utilities, constructing a “heavy haul” road, removing the old mill buildings and slabs, installing new roofs, fire protection and mechanical systems, abating the asbestos, and completing soil remediation.

One-hundred days after mobilization, the Cianbro team and subcontractors reached a commemorative milestone. They sat down for a hearty (and healthy) breakfast at Jeff’s Catering in Brewer, Maine, to celebrate 100 recordable-injury-free days and the tremendous progress on the site development.

Our daily safety expectations are communicated clearly every morning during stretches, and we continue to hold team members to the highest standards in efforts to eliminate at-risk behaviors and injuries. Cianbro maintains their efforts to prove that despite conducting risky work in the dangerous environment that demolition brings, we can and will work safely.

Each of the regional human resource managers and their teams will continue to work very closely with their respective regions but will now report directly to the Cianbro Institute.

This new structure will position our company to provide team members among all of our business units with the very best in recruiting, education, and career development. Replacement of the Humpback Bridge

n September 6, 2007, Cianbro Corporation was awarded the Replacement of the Humpback Bridge over Boundary Channel project by the United States Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). The FHWA is administering and coordinating the project for the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service, and the project is expected to be complete in just over two years. The bridge is located between the banks of the Potomac River and Boundary Channel in the District of Columbia and Arlington County, Virginia.

The existing bridge and associated roadway are being replaced and widened to add a proper acceleration lane along Northbound George Washington Memorial Parkway, which is currently causing traffic backups on the existing ramp and the 14th Street Bridge, which is a vital artery out of the District of Columbia. Since the project is located in the middle of a major metropolitan area, all four lanes of existing traffic—two lanes in each direction—must be maintained at all times. For this reason, construction has been broken out into five phases with three committed just for the bridge work alone.

Major work items consist of removal of the existing bridge, construction of cofferdams, 72 and 36 inch drilled shafts, precast, post-tensioned concrete arch beams, stone veneer, substructure concrete, superstructure concrete, precast concrete arch tunnel, shoring/bracing, and temporary work including work staging areas (trestles) and low density cementitious fill.

The Humpback Bridge team recently received the notice to proceed and the bridge is scheduled for completion on February 17, 2010. Currently, the project management team is in the process of negotiating with subcontractors and vendors, planning, scheduling, and mobilizing to the project site.

Update from the Maine Coastal Team

e have been pretty busy here on the coast of Maine.

We are in our 14th year here at FMC in Rockland, Maine, and have reached over 350,000 safe work hours with out a lost time or a recordable. That’s quite an accomplishment!

Many thanks to our Cianbro team throughout the years that have helped us out. We could not have done it with out everyone’s support and dedication to safety.

Some of the work we have completed over the past year at FMC include two, 70-plus person shutdowns, the addition of a third floor to an existing building, and installation of a new state-of-the-art press system.

The crew—led by Rod McKay—did an excellent job setting up the crane and barge right through to installing the steel and equipment to demobilization. They also weathered some of the worst storms we had in years and had to deal with the wakes from the ferry service that passed by every couple of hours. This project also presented another unique challenge as our tem was responsible for all piping. The team—led by Tim Garnett—not only fabricated all of the pipe but was challenged to complete their own layout and design. All the piping had to fit in 8

and around the other piping through out the plant. Many thanks to the equipment group and the transportation group for their help in the set up and demobilization of the crane and flexi floats. We also thank Roy Bolton for his assistance in loading the crane on the flexi floats.

Throughout the rest of the year we had a small crew led by Marvin Graves doing everything from fabricating and installing platforms or catwalks to installing different pieces of equipment to some light maintenance work to overhead door repairs. We are also supporting the plant in several other areas and have several team members working in the maintenance department as well as three people working in a production role on shift work.

We have also supported several other Cianbro Corporation projects here in the mid-coast. We have ventured to Searsport, Maine, and helped out with a tank foundation and our team has gone over to Thomaston, Maine, to the Dragon Cement plant and helped with their annual outage.

The Samuel Thomas project on North Haven Island, Maine, was a very unique project. The crew led by Steve Bevis had to take extra care in doing every task asked of them since the house is 200 years old and now completely restored. All the work was done with the utmost precision and care. Every board is numbered and

accounted for. There was no room for mistakes when doing the finish carpentry. The team has also done a lot of other work on the property as well.

We have built a new driveway, a new drainage system around the garden area, and clearing and disposing of trees. One would think that being able to take a boat to work would be fun, but that’s not always the case. The seas between the mainland and the island can get pretty rough and the boat ride can be choppy!

That same team working on North Haven Island went over to Northport, Maine, and installed a rock wall. The shore front was approximately 140 feet long by 40 inches tall. This job presented us with a few challenges.

First, we had to figure how to get the rock down to the shoreline in the most cost-effective way. Then we had to figure out how to get an excavator down to the shoreline and back out every night; the permit did not allow us to leave the equipment down in the high water mark area. To solve our first problem of getting the rock down to the shore line we laid out steel

plates to make a road down through the camp property under the watchful eye of the client arborist to protect all the trees and roots. Then to get the excavator in and out we cut a ramp area down to the beach area and rock was dumped down over the bank after which Larry McAlpine placed each rock. Once the wall was completed the excavator was carefully backed out without any damage to the new wall.

Starting as a couple of double-wide trailers, Cianbro Corporation sold that lot to Central Maine Power in order for them to build a substation; and bought the land and building across the street and adjacent to our already existing waterfront facility.

Today, Ricker’s Wharf is “home” to an average of 35 people, while also serving as satellite office space for a number of our finance and business development corporate team members.

Sappi Account Update ■

There certainly has been a lot of action at our Hinckley, Maine, maintenance account at Sappi Fine Papers.

Just recently, Scott Clements, our account manager for the past two years, was reassigned to the Brewer, Maine, project. We wish Scott the best of luck.

Stepping up to the plate is our new account manager, Mike Hilton. Although the job title may be new for Mike, he is very familiar with the many tasks that go along with it, having been assigned to this account for many years. Jason Butler has also taken on a new role, as regional cost engineer, and we welcome team member Cathy Mudge, filling the role of field administrator.

Major projects at Sappi include relief condenser tie-ins, vacuum header piping, and various miscellaneous projects, too numerous to mention! Of course we are always ready to handle any emergency work that may arise at the mill. Our busiest time of the year was last fall with the wood yard shut-

by Elbridge “Watty” Watson has been busy refurbishing a stanchion bay, which includes installation of temporary stop logs, 320 of concrete rehabilitation, and installation of new green heart stop logs.

KENNEBEC HYDRO – We recently completed a full inspection of #1 and #2 units thanks to the team of Hunter Anderson, Tom Barnes, Jim Bonney, and Jason Chicoine.

BENTON HYDRO – Shawn Bickford, Shawn Doran, and Corey Soucier refurbished the gate guides and installed new gate seals.

LOCKWOOD HYDRO – Modifications were made to the fish lift attraction pipe screen, structural repairs to the trash rack, and dredging of the canal by the team of Mike Abbott, Jack Dodge, Chris Franke, Allan Griffith,

Rick Preble, Kerry Swallow, and Shawn Wing.

SPECIALTY MINERALS INC. – Emergency gear box and screw trough replacements were made.

KENNEBEC LUMBER – John Gamage and his crew recently finished the installation of a new lumber grading station and edger. We also have a crew of Mitch Hayden, Brent Luce, and Les Vigneault working full time on the early evening shift performing maintenance work and repairs at the plant during off hours so the equipment is ready for another full day of operation in the morning.

FLORIDA POWER AND LIGHT (FPL) HYDRO INSPECTIONS – The four-person team of Mike Bishop, Jared Bragdon, John Luckern, and Lloyd Moore are updating information of existing electrical and mechanical systems at FPL’s stations along the Kennebec and Androscoggin Rivers.

IMERYS PLANT – Rae Randlett, Mike Tripodi, and their team have been installing two new trane chillers, along with supporting the plant with many miscellaneous projects.

he sun rises over the Gulf of Maine and the salty smell of the ocean drifts through the air. A light breeze unfurls the flag as a small group of Cianbro team members arrive at the United States Coast Guard (USCG) base in South Portland, Maine. They are the Trial Team who will participate in the development of a new interactive Cianbro class: Work Boat Operations.

Greeted by the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary (USCGAUX) Teaching team, the Cianbro Trial Team enters the Rusty Scupper, which is a military social club and classroom combination with marine gear displayed in the classroom and boating library text books on the table with the promise of real life marine experiences in the afternoon. The team quickly decides this will be an excellent adventure!

Safety Manager at the Hornbeck project, Pat Sughrue begins the class. He thanks the team for their commitment and shares how they were hand-selected to participate in this important pilot project. Pat Hinckley, the Associate Director of Professional Learning and Development, outlines the role a Trial Team plays in this pilot project to refine a new interactive marine class for Cianbro and introduces the USCGAUX Teaching Team of Ted Chatham, Fran Hunt, Robert Loney, Gordon Nash, Paul Smith-Valley, and Sandy Young.

In the Classroom Rear Commodore (RCO) Northern New England Paul Smith-Valley steps to the front of the classroom with the intense gaze of a wise and seasoned sailor with the precision of the military. As Paul welcomes the team to the base, he recognizes that the students have different levels of marine experience. He starts the learning process with a 1 0

preliminary evaluation. The students like the challenge and are eager to show their knowledge. The exam reveals that students have mixed levels of marine knowledge and experience.

Paul swiftly moves the class through safety equipment for a boat, line handling, aids to navigation, and rules of the road. How do you navigate from one place to another? What do five long blasts of the horn mean? What does it take to avoid a collision at sea? What do those funny looking cans and nuns mean? How do you know if one of our nine Cianbro divers is in the water? How do you dock in wind from the bow, the stern, or no wind? Now, it’s time to experiment with the model boat, dock and rubber bands! Everyone gathers around the table and charts as the master teachers show the effects of docking while dealing with the dynamics of water, wind, and vessel.

“Five volunteers are needed.” Stepping swiftly to the front of the class each one is given a different personal flotation device (PFD). For what situation would each PFD be best suited? Which one is best for industrial work?

What safety gear is stowed in the pockets? The Teaching Team notes that “successful rescues over the past year were due to one important piece of safety equipment: a strobe light, attached to a PFD.” The morning flies by. It’s time for lunch, on base in the galley with the Coast Guards. Next comes more hands-on training near the water.

On the Water’s Edge “This is a test, this is a test…..Cianbro 1, Cianbro 1”….. “identify your position…..do you have injuries?…..does everyone have a PFD?…….is equipment running?…..assistance will arrive in ten minutes….”

The voices speak clearly and precisely back and forth between the student groups and Paul on the USCG dispatch radio. The AUX team is guiding two Cianbro teams through the radio procedures. It takes a few practice drills to duplicate the step-by-step protocols. The teams quickly realize that stating facts and staying calm during an incident is the key to success on this communication exercise.

They realize that the well-trained Coast Guards help people focus on details that are important to this test rescue.

Summarizing this lesson, Robert describes how following radio protocol can at times mean the difference between life and death.

As Gordon and Ted demonstrate the buddy system for dealing with ship board fires, Captain James Rendon stops by to say hello and welcome Cianbro to the base.

It’s time to move on to the next learning exercise. Stepping up to a model boat designed with damage areas and to connect to a water supply, the students realize they could get quite wet stopping the leaks in this boat when the water is turned on.

It is precisely 1:30 P.M. A radio call goes out, “this is the South Portland USCG base confirming today’s flare shoot drill.” The drill begins with an orange flare and a

bright red flair. The students are warned not to look directly into the white flame. What do the colors mean? How do you hold a flare to prevent a hand or face injury? A few students quickly learn following flare shoot protocols is an important safety concern as a hole starts to burn through one glove and the smoke drifts in the wrong direction.

One student shares how the red flame looks as bright as the flame on a welding torch.

“We have a person overboard!” Is the person in the water in shock, unconscious, panicked or able to swim?

The rescue rope is tossed. In teams of two, students hustle to retrieve the person in the water, USCG Seaman Ashley McPhee. Students quickly learn that after being in the water, a person is heavier than expected.

Team members rescue USCG Seaman And, if the person is Ashley McPhee during the person panicked, you could overboard protocol exercise become the victim. It takes teamwork, leverage, strength, planning, and protocol to swiftly and safely perform the rescue. How do you conduct a rescue if one person on the team is not able to lift?

What if there is only one person in the vessel to help rescue? Using the rope and the boat, guided by Paul, one student demonstrates an alternate rescue method. Yes, everyone got a little wet during this exercise!

Suddenly, we hear, “Clear the boat!” Students exit the 47 foot Motor Life Boat MLB as the USCG Search and Rescue Team board and prepare for a mission. Immediately, the boat tour is cancelled. We watch and wonder. Will it be a routine boarding mission or a search and rescue mission?

Real life for one crew of the MLB unfolds before us. Paul Smith-Valley learns that the incident is a sail boat tangled in lobster pot lines off Cape Porpoise. Today, the USCG mission is routine.

Walking from the waterfront back to the classroom at the end of the day, the students talk about how great it would be to take a ride on one of the Coast Guard boats.

The MLB is designed to complete a 360 degree roll in high seas and right itself. Talk about going through the perfect storm, this boat can do it! The discussions continue. Students share their experiences as they prepare to take the final exam.

Back at the classroom, the students take a new test; this time to evaluate what they learned during the day. The good news is announced by Paul that everyone passed the final exam! It’s time for the closing ceremony. The student names are called. As they step up to the front of the class

to receive their certificate and card they shake hands with their master Teaching Team: Paul, Gordon, Bob, Ted, Sandy, and Fran. Expressions of gratitude, smiles and laughter say it all; this was an excellent day for learning and new adventures!

Pine Tree Landfill Gas-to-Energy Project

At the Casella’s Pine Tree Landfill in Hampden, Maine, there is a system of underground pipe buried in the landfill, which collect and route the methane to the new power plant under low vacuum pressure.

Once the raw gas from the landfill is scrubbed or “cleaned,” it passes through a gas conditioning unit, placing what is, in essence, a final polish on the gas. The methane then becomes fuel for three, 20-cylinder Jenbacher/General Electric internal combustion engine/generator sets. The power produced will leave the site through Bangor Hydro-Electric Company’s power lines. Each engine has the potential to produce approximately one megawatt of electricity.

As with any first, unforeseen challenges arise. Once again Cianbro’s best resources – its people – have risen to that challenge on this project. Project Manager Nick Bell and Casella’s representative, Dan Dutile, and their teams have worked together to find solutions to construction challenges. Welding and pipefitting, under the direction of foremen Charlie Tapley and Eric George met tough design challenges and the experience of our team members and their quality craftsmanship is evident throughout the project. Ben Blodgett’s civil crew has provided quality work when called upon to accomplish a wide variety of tasks.

ing, electrical foreman Patti Brann and her team is busy energizing systems and completing all electrical connections required in a power plant. Project Engineers Ben Hall and Brad Weiland along with Field Administrator LeAnne Rogers have worked through the administrative details of the project, from payroll to procurement of materials and instrumentation, as well as addressing construction and design issues as the project progressed.

As we look for ways to reduce our dependency on foreign oil and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, these gasto-energy projects at our nation’s landfills are becoming viable methods to aide in accomplishing these goals. Cianbro Corporation is proving that through experience, professionalism, and a safe productive team, it is possible to meet new and more difficult challenges while staying committed to the customers and the industry.

Maine Central Institute (MCI) Dining Hall Expansion

n March of 2007, Cianbro Corporation was awarded the contract to renovate and construct a new addition to the MCI High School dining hall located in Pittsfield, Maine.

Under the leadership of Garry Sawtelle the scope of work completed included foundation work, demolition, rough carpentry (wall framing, trusses, exterior finishes, blocking, shingling the roof), interior finish carpentry, electrical and data cabling, installation of a new 800 amp upgrade service entrance, insulation of foundation, installation of mega wall landscaping blocks, interior painting, and equipment installation. The steel beams and columns were supplied by the Cianbro Fabrication & Coating Corporation facilities including the patio hand rails.

The schedule—start to finish—was set at 26 weeks with a complete shutdown of the kitchen for eight to 10 weeks. The team mobilized to the project site in April 2007, and began demo of the loading dock area. Foundation work started just two days later. One

week later the loading dock was formed and all concrete placed so that MCI was able to use this area. Work continued on to the rest of the foundation with a total of 300 cy placed including installation of 90 cy of slabon-grade. All 33 panels of the exterior walls were installed in just one shift!

One exterior brick wall was removed to make way for installation of a 12 foot by 26 foot beam that would hold that end of the building. Shoring was placed to support the load and the brick. Extra beams were installed to support the trusses where the HVAC equipment was being installed. Then

the roof trusses were placed by our team. In June, school was out and the building was all ours to start interior demo and remaining exterior demo.

After ten weeks of fast-paced work by our team members and subcontrators, we had the kitchen, serving line, and the dining areas 95% complete for the start up of school. The project was 100% complete by mid-September—six weeks ahead of the original schedule!

Cianbro Fabrication & Coating Corporation ■

As part of Cianbro Fabrication & Coating Corporation’s ongoing initiative for continuous improvement, we are constantly looking at using technology and automation solutions to improve safety, improve quality, and speed up our processes. In the fall 2006, our team explored the possibility of adding a plate shear to the production floor in the Baltimore, Maryland, facility.

The team looked at many different shear manufacturers and narrowed the list down to the four that we were most interested in. In February of last year, Jurgen Bell, Dave Leavitt, Doug LaCroix, Jeff Rands, and Alvin Towns visited these manufactures and, after the evaluations were complete, the team agreed that the Accurshear Model 6625 was

the best machine for the Baltimore facility. The key selling points were Accurshear’s reputation for a good quality made machine, ruggedly built, with the options we were looking for, and with a lead time that fit our schedule.

Our Accurshear Model 6625 was delivered on August 24, 2007, and installed by Cianbro Corporations’s Industrial group here in the Baltimore facility. Thanks to Aric Dreher and Brian Walsh and their team for their ongoing help and support! After installation and training was complete, we were able to put the shear into production. Our first job to hit the shear was the column encasements needed for Seamass, a job that Cianbro Corporation was performing in Connecticut.

After the job was complete, we interviewed the shop foreman Bob Compton, and his thoughts were that the shear performed great and saved a lot of time. He said, “The machine was simple, sturdy, and easy to use.”

Our maintenance support James Rosso was also very impressed with the way the shear was designed and it’s rugged features. He felt it was a great improvement to the Baltimore shop.

With the addition of the Accurshear Model 6625, we are now able to shear from 22 guage to 5/8 inch thick material up to 12 feet wide. The machine is also equipped with a power blade clearance adjustment and 48 inch back gauge.

We are now better positioned to take on major plate jobs, and expect to set new standards for productivity!

Southern New England Industrial Project Updates ■

Bridgeport Energy – Bridgeport, Connecticut Last March, Cianbro Corporation mobilized two shifts at Bridgeport Energy to rebuild two 54 inch valves as a subcontractor for Allagash Valve & Controls Company.

The work was performed while the plant was in shutdown and included rigging out the two valves weighing 14,000 pounds each; replacing valve seats and bearings, and refurbishing the hydraulics. Day shift General Foreman Barry Perkins and Millwright Steve LaChausse came down on short notice from Fitchburg Newark America with special tools to pull the valve actuator valve arms. With Steve’s help the team was able to overcome major challenges and get the project back on schedule going from one shift behind to two shifts ahead of schedule while maintaining an injury-free environment. The end result was a pleased customer and a successful project. Superintendent Nate Weston commends this team on a job well done!

✔ 876 Project Safe Hours Cobble Mountain Hydro – Westfield, Massachusetts In May 2007, eight Cianbro Corporation team members participated in an annual inspection at the Cobble Mountain Hydro Station. They provided support to Devine Tarbell & Associates Engineering to inspect the condition of a 7,000 foot long water tunnel and three steel penstocks that were each 700 feet long. The project had a confined space rescue team on site. The team installed access to the tunnel, set up temporary lighting and air ventilation and cleaned hundreds of ultrasonic testing locations. The team also set up a temporary pumping station to manage the water in the tunnel. This weeklong shutdown project was completed safely and exceeded productivity goals.

✔ 509 Project Safe Hours Northfield Mountain Pump Storage Facility – Northfield, Massachusetts This pump storage hydro electric generating station experienced a main transformer failure in early May 2007. Pipe Foreman Bill Potter and his crew worked around the clock for approximately 11 days to fabricate and install all of the cooling water piping for the transformer. After the initial fabrication of the pipe was complete, the pipe was sent to Pittsfield, Maine, to the Fabrication & Coatings Facility to apply a specific coating to the interior of the pipe. This operation was completed in record time and the pipe was back on site within 72 hours! Bill Potter and his team completed this project maintaining their focus on safety and productivity. project was the definition of teamwork between the customer, field operations, and the Cianbro Fabrication & Coatings crew—a job well done!

✔ 1,251 Project Safe Hours Newark America – Fitchburg, Massachusetts Cianbro continues to provide day-to-day maintenance support services to the Newark America Facility. In April 2007, the customer agreement was extended an additional three years which was influenced by our outstanding safety and productivity from the previous six years at this project. General Foreman John Coon took over the leadership of this project in February 2007. Along with his team, they continue to perform daily maintenance on two paper machines and the entire stock prep area. Every four weeks they perform a two-day shutdown to work on continuous operating equipment. This project is currently at zero recordables and approaching 500,000 Safe hours. Congratulations to the team for their continued success!

The Southern New England Industrial team has also been involved in numerous smaller-scale projects this year.

One project consisted of a code weld repair at a pharmaceutical research and development center. Another project had a rigging team at a semiconductor manufacturing facility most recently changing out three, large three-phase transformers in clean room environment. A team performed an oil boiler coil repair at a chemical plant that manufactures paint base. An annual inspection was performed for another hydro electric station by taking bearing clearances, checking the wicket gates, changing air filters and replacing packing.

The Industrial team as a whole continues to take on projects and build a strong customer base here in Southern New England. Kudos to the entire team!

SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS

PITTSFIELD, Maine -The Cianbro Charitable Foundation recently announced the recipients of the 2007 Cianchette Brothers Scholarship Awards. Twenty-eight outstanding college students, who are children of Cianbro team members, earned scholarships.

With $50,000 in scholarships awarded last year, 2007 marks the eighth year of the Cianchette Brothers Scholarship program. Over $250,000 has been awarded since the program was established in 1999.

New Bottling Plant Update

ork is swiftly coming to an end for the Nestle Waters Kingfield, Maine, Bottling Facility site work and building exterior. The plant exterior painting, roofing, finish grading, paving, and landscaping was complete in mid-October while work on the administration area, and building interior electrical and mechanical is ramping up for a completion date in early 2008.

Cianbro Corporation’s construction management team is managing over 50 subcontractors to complete the 204,000 sf facility. The building has a concrete tilt-up exterior. Jay-Ton Construction poured the floor slabs and cast the tilt-up panels on the slab. After mobilizing a 275 ton crane, Jay-Ton erected the building in only six days!

Amtrak Bridge Project

ew London, CT—The Amtrak Bridge Project celebrated a milestone of 105,000 safe hours this last September. Cianbro Corporation President Peter Vigue visited the site to congratulate the team on this success. Vice President Linc Denison affirmed the project’s efforts as “a tremendous accomplishment” and said, “it demonstrates the commitment the team has made to working safely.”

This project consists of the addition of 2,400 cy of concrete to two piers that support the 200 foot tall lift span towers. The existing bascule span will be removed during a four day channel outage this spring and replaced with the new lift span that was erected in October.

Steel Erection Superintendent Pete Fournier will be starting with pier three and then pier two and the tower steel is expected to be completed this spring. After the towers are complete, the focus during this season will transition to the lift spans. The crews have recently been split into day and night shifts that overlap for a time period each morning. Foreman Todd Hoffa, will supervise the night steel erection crew and Foreman Tod Parisek will oversee the preassembly for the day shift. Foreman Steve Trombley is in

charge of the preassembly work on the ladder access platforms that were fabricated in our Cianbro Fabrication Facility.

Foreman Dennis Morin has been supervising the rebar and post tensioning crews and Foreman Justin Shelton has been overseeing the concrete placement at piers two and three. Concrete placement was finished at the end of May and is almost complete at pier two.

Approximately 2,350 cy of concrete have been placed to date.

The grouting subcontractor completed work on pier two with approximately 625,000 gallons of cementitious grout in early June.

Work at pier three was complete in October.

An emergency power generator was installed for back up support to power the lift span. The electricians, lead by Electrical Superintendent Steve Dube, are currently

National Harbor Piers Project Update ■

At the National Harbor project in National Harbor, Maryland, construction of three piers have taken shape and are well on their way to completion. This contract with National Harbor Development involves the construction of three piers extending into the Potomac River. The project is located just South of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge on the Maryland side of the Potomac River.

All of the pile has been driven and precast has been set. We have placed approximately 2,000 cy of cast-in-place concrete for our topping slabs, cap closures, and fascia closures. We are on the backstretch now, getting everything buttoned up and putting the finishing touches on the piers.

We are done with our concrete placements at the commercial pier and have installed a 60 slip marina as well as five other floating docks for water taxi service. Finishing work includes deck placements at the piers, installing and terminating light poles, placing pedestals for the marina, and running utilities to the piers and pedestals including power, sewer, and water. We have started taking delivery of the pier amenities which include benches, planters, and binoculars.

Upcoming work includes delivery and termination of the electrical substations, completion of the entry monument base so the 85 foot entrance statue can be set on top, and installation of channel markers in the river.

Currently we are working on several projects. The first major project is graphic design, video production, and threedimensional animation support for the Maine Power Reliability Program, which is a Central Maine Power Company program that will comprehensively analyze the reliability of the company’s bulk power transmission system to clearly identify the system needs for Maine’s future.

The next major project is the development of the Eastern Manufacturing Facility in Brewer, Maine. This has included producing various informational videos, PowerPoint presentations, large format posters, 3-dimensional renderings and animations, webcam and security camera recommendations, job fair support, press conference coordination, interactive booth display design, historical photo and data collection, and the design and development of a project website: www.cianbroemf.com In addition to these projects, we are also supporting the Cianbro Corporation Brightman Street Bridge Replacement project in Fall River, Massachusetts. his diversified project in Syracuse, New York, broke ground running in the spring of 2007.

The initial phase of the project will include construction of 1.3 million sf.

Within the building footprint of 10 acres, there will be approximately 300,000 lf of pile driving and an excess of 10,000 tons of structural steel and 40,000 cy of concrete installed.

Prior to pile installation the rehabilitation of the Carousel Center Parking Garage was the first task to commence. This project consists of the removal and replacement of concrete in two parking garages with a footprint of 526,000 sf to a depth of approximately six inches. The face of 1,200 columns will also be removed and replaced and all areas of the existing slab are in need of rehabilitation.

These repairs will allow for the pile driving to begin. A hydro-demolition subcontractor has been retained to complete the demolition. This technique is faster and safer than traditional hand chipping methods. The first phase of 86,000 sf will was completed last December. General Foreman Donnie Fulmer, Foreman Jamie Fulmer, Foreman Jamie Fox, Foreman Bob Heyman, and Foreman Bill Mitchell are heading up a strong crew. Safety Specialist Jody Petronella joined the Cianbro team at this project and continues to focus on safety along with Project Manager Pat Cronin, Superintendent Jim Matt, and Field Engineers Scott Davis and Harold Sherwood.

crane. The necessity of splices depends on how far the pile has to be driven in that area. There can be up to four splices on the deepest end of the project. After the splicing is complete the pile is vibrated down to resistance with an APE 200 Vibro hammer. The piles are set to the bedrock with a B64 berming hammer—supervised by Foreman Bob Owens and crew— which will eventually support the building foundation and structure.

The crew has been driving pile anywhere from 160 feet to 320 feet into the ground. The project goal is to complete 12 piles per day and current project plans call for over 1,100 Hpiles. heads up the Selective Demo project with help from Foremen Todd Fulmer and Bill Mitchell. This element of the overall project includes the removal of the face of the Carousel Center on the east side to allow for the attachment of the expansion. Before removing the face of the store fronts, the crew weather proofs the stores from the inside for safety and retail customer aesthetic value. This entails installing temporary walls and exits. The removal of structural steel on the store fronts and excavation operations then prepares the building for the expansion attachment. To maximize production for the concrete operation, a concrete batch plant has been constructed on site. A concrete subcontractor will excavate the pile caps and grade beams, weld the pile cap plates and nelson studs, install rebar, and form and place pile caps and grade beams. Completion of this component will form the foundation for the steel erection.

One challenge on this project is the numerous existing utilities that interfere with the new building addition.

The new building abuts against the existing building, and there are underground gas lines, water lines, sprinkler lines, storm water lines, sewer lines, and 34.5 kv electric lines that are adjacent to the existing building. How does one sever and relocate these utili-

ties with minimal disruption to a very active retail facility? The task seemed comparable to performing double bypass surgery on a patient while that patient was jogging! Cianbro has been coordinating the relocation of these services with various contractors, local utility company National Grid, the mall management team, and various discipline engineers for the project, as well as city and county building officials. The relocation of most of these services are within the existing basement and perimeter areas outside the footprint of the new building addition.

Currently, the replacement utility infrastructure is relocated within the existing building basement. We are coordinating with various logistical hurdles to cutover each service. Each service cutover is coordinated with mall management using “Interruption of Service Notification Request Form.”

Logistics Manager Brian Larsen meets with the Carousel team every day to review for coordination. The service locations are required to allow pile driving activities to continue and close coordination has transpired to ensure safe completion.

The collaboration of all efforts with the Destiny USA team continues to be innovative and productive. Project Executive Mac Cianchette commented that, “We believe in their initiatives and approach of thinking outside the box. We feel they have great vision and we support their plan.” One inno-

vative element is Destiny USA’s unified workforce model. The basis of the program is to start with people with desire and instinct and have them work and develop in different classifications in the construction industry. It is a flexible program that has proved positive results. The individuals in this program have thus far demonstrated enthusiastic attitudes and enhanced their skills. They have innovatively embraced the opportunity to learn new skills within the construction industry and, as the facility opens, they will transition to operating it. Through this process, the program participants are helping to build the project and establishing ownership in their facility, resulting in the enhancement to the economy in their community.

Destiny USA Project “Green” Initiatives ■

Within the whirlwind of activities at the Destiny USA project in Syracuse, New York, Cianbro Corporation—working collaboratively with Destiny USA—has established a strong “green” initiative to improve the quality of the environment and leave behind a smaller footprint. Project Manager Brian Watson declared that the green initiatives, “bring about positive challenges that inspire us to think in a nontraditional manner that creates innovative ideas. At end of day the green initiative is going to affect all of us in how we live our lives and encourage us to continue to do things differently to improve.” Destiny USA is very sensitive to the environment and willing to educate others in how to become more environmentally conscious.

DESTINY USA, continued from page 19 is to become Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified at the highest level. LEED is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings. It promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection, and indoor environmental quality.

One influential environmentally friendly goal is to operate the construction site and facilities without the use of fossil fuel. Biodiesel is being used more and more in the construction industry.

This project is nationally recognized for utilizing B-100. The project goal is to be 100% reliant on biodiesel fuel with all equipment. Starting last spring, the entire project went to B100 with all equipment operating on the soy fuel. The use of biodiesel cuts down air pollution and decreases the potential of smog formation. When biodiesel use is compared with petro-diesel fuel, carbon monoxide

This cleaner alternative fuel improves the air we breathe, reduces health risks, is made domestically, promotes sustainability, and is a renewable resource. With the level of greenhouse gas emissions rising each year, biodiesel is on the cusp of the energy demands of the future.

In a 50-acre plot largely known as “Oil City” to the local community, approximately 80,000 cy of impacted soil was encountered. Action was taken to remediate this long time polluted area and then developed into four functioning 2 0

auxiliary parking lots, two soil staging areas, a laydown yard, and batch plant yard. Through this entire process we worked with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) on a daily basis to comply with the various clean-up action required on the twelve different parcels of land that make up the 50 acres of “Oil City.” The impacted soils were first encountered during the excavation and removal of old pipe lines and actual construction of several retention ponds. Several thousand linear feet of underground oil, diesel, and gasoline pipelines ranging from four inches to 18 inches in diameter were removed. Over 20,000 gallons of petroleum mixtures were removed from lines and excavations and transferred to a recycling facility for final disposition. In one particular parcel 30,000 cy of soil was in-situ treated by adding nutrients and Bio-Solve to the petroleum soils. We were able to utilize specialized mixing heads on excavators which allowed mixing to take place underground versus excavating into a stockpile and treating soils above ground. The mixing head penetrated the ground to a depth of 10 feet, which allowed the nutrients and Bio-Solve mixture to soak to the depths of contamination. This particular method was part of a DEC agreement with our client.

Additionally, a treatment cell was constructed onsite for the bio-remediation treatment of 50,000 cy of soil. The same mixtures were added to the soils but treated above ground. This type of treatment increased volatilization of petroleum soils along with constant soil aeration by utilization of the specialized mixing heads. These soils are currently “bedded down” for the winter with erosion matting until spring when it will be tested. These efforts have not only been to remediate soil but turn a highly contaminated area into a useful space. Currently the team is working on the steps to remediate more soil.

The effort to recycle the most waste possible has also reaped positive results. In six months the waste generated from the site decreased with the end result of 98% being diverted from landfills. Included in these efforts is the goal of becoming a paperless project. This is a challenge in any project setting especially in an industry that relies on reading blueprints to build. The team has become dependant upon technology.

With a massive amount of concrete in the scope, a high percentage of fly ash is being used as an additive. Fly ash is a non-combustible mineral byproduct of coal generation. It is spherical in shape and often referred to as fly ash “ball bearings.” This material, when utilized with quality aggregates, reinforces the strength and durability of the con-

Aerial view of the Destiny USA project crete. With the hydration of cement and water, a chemical reaction occurs between the lime created and the fly ash that produces the same type binder as cement. Therefore less cement is needed. The benefits of using fly ash are ample. The reduction of lime and its conversion into calcium silicate hydrate, the strongest element in the paste of concrete is the beginning of its beneficial results. The use of fly ash also decreases concrete permeability therefore improving corrosion protection, is easier to pump, flows better, uses less water, is cost effective, and contributes to the concrete workability. Notably, it also decreases landfill disposal and carbon dioxide emissions.

Cianbro has embraced Destiny USA’s green practices and is learning more everyday. With the positive results surrounding these efforts, Cianbro aspires to implement some of these practices in other parts of the company. Through these processes we are enhancing productivity and efficiency.

At Destiny USA, we are acting as a positive and motivating example to the construction industry, an industry that in the United States alone generates more than 325 million tons of recoverable construction and demolition materials.

Together with Destiny USA we will strive to meet our green initiative goals throughout the longevity of this project.

Together we will serve as an example to our industry so that others can follow our lead with smaller footprints.

Cianbro Facilities Energy Efficiency Efforts

fficiency Maine is a program developed by the state of Maine Public Utilities to encourage and assist with the savings of energy. This program offers cash incentives to businesses willing to install and implement energy efficient electric products. In addition, customers have the ability to participate in education and training to identifying energy-saving opportunities and purchase self-survey tools to evaluate electrical systems to maximize energy consumption.

In May 2006, Facility Manager Tom Ruksznis, responsible for coordinating facility maintenance and repairs, attended a seminar sponsored by Horizon Solutions and Maine Public Utilities - Efficiency Maine. After learning more about energy savings and how Cianbro could take advantage of this program, Tom worked with Lead Electrical Estimator Dave Parsons, collecting data and forming a cost analysis and proposed to Senior Vice President Andi Vigue, who is in charge of operations, in order to get the go-ahead and pursue the change. Tom and Dave sought quotes for consultation and technical advice, finally hiring Gilman Electric to provide these services and the materials. Gilman Electric in turn, used the services of Lighthouse Consulting to run light emission evaluations of the facilities to ensure the replacement fixtures would not result in a reduction of light. In August 2006, Gilman Electric began the process of reevaluating the lighting of three Pittsfield, Maine, Cianbro facilities: the Fabrication Facility, the Coatings Facility, and the Equipment Maintenance Facility. “Energy savings was the driving factor, but we weren’t going to reduce the number of lights to save energy. The end result was an improvement in quality and quantity of light,” stated Tom. The project consisted of replacing all of the high bay lights (high pressure sodium and metal halide lights) with fluorescent lighting. A small, but highly efficient two-person team Mechanical Foreman Todd Folsom and Electrician Gary French began the work in February of last year. The crew promptly completed the project in 575 work hours, surpassing productivity goals and ahead of schedule, working nights and weekends to avoid affecting the production of the continuously operating facilities.

The outcome of this project was better quality light and monthly savings on the energy bill. With an anticipated annual savings of $13,000 in the energy bill a year, the expectation is to recover the cost of the project within three years. Not only will this save Cianbro direct expenses but this is also an investment in the corporation; by increasing the efficiency of the facilities the value of the facilities has also increased.

The Ricker’s Wharf facility is also currently working on updating their warehouse lighting system. The update, managed by Senior Project Engineer Phil Dube commenced by establishing a timeline and budget. This new upgrade will again replace all of the high bay lighting with fluorescent lighting. Earning considerable monthly savings, the Ricker’s facility can expect to recover their costs within four years of implementing the new lights.

How can you as an employee contribute to Cianbro’s success in the reduction of energy consumption? Here’s a list of some things you can do around the office and jobsite: • Turn lights off when leaving the room.

• Take advantage of daylight and dim lights to a comfortable level when daylight is available.

• Turn off office equipment at night such as computers as well

as monitors and copiers.

• If incandescent light bulbs are used in desk lamps, suggest the purchase of Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFLs) to replace the incandescent bulbs.

• If there is a water heater at the project’s office that is only used for washing hands and miscellaneous tasks, reduce the temperature of the water to 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Whether the unit is heated using electricity or fossil fuel you will cut down on energy consumption.

These same principals can be applied at the home. Senior Design Engineer Joe Orlando of Ricker’s Wharf changed out 23 incandescent light bulbs and replaced them with CFLs in his home. Consequently, Joe cut the energy consumption of his light fixtures by 75%, thereby reducing energy bills. In five months, Joe has already recovered the cost of replacing the incandescent bulbs with fluorescent bulbs! Most energy providers offer cash incentives for increasing your home’s efficiency. Call your local energy provider or check out their website for more information. Here are a few easy tasks to reduce electricity consumption in your home:

Lights • Turn lights off when leaving the room.

• Replace incandescent light bulbs with CFLs. CFLs are slightly more expensive initially but reduce energy consumption by more than half and can last up to 10 times longer than incandescent bulbs. Most retail stores offer instant rebates when purchasing CFLs. • Take maximum advantage of day light. Open curtains to allow all light in. Paint walls lighter colors to encourage light to travel throughout the house.

• Dust off lights and light bulbs occasionally to maximize light output.

Washers and Dryers • Dry clothes on a clothes line in nice weather.

• Optimize the use of your washer and dryer by filling them; however, overloading has the same effect of inefficiency as under loading. Keep your dryer’s lint trap clean.

• Set washing machines on a warm wash cycle and a cold rinse cycle. Rinsing with cold water does not affect the cleaning process.

Kitchen Appliances • Clean your refrigerator’s coils.

• Open refrigerator and freezer only when necessary.

• Ensure seal on refrigerator and freezer is properly sealed when the door is closed.

• Use the appropriate size burner for stove top cooking. A six-inch pan on an eight-inch burner wastes 25% of energy expended.

• Use microwaves to reheat small quantities of food and use smaller toaster ovens to heat up small items opposed to heating the entire oven.

• Open the dishwasher door just before the start of the drying cycle to allow for dishes to air dry.

• Purchase home appliances with the Energy Star label. This investment can return a savings of 5-25% of the operating cost a year, depending on the appliance.

Innovative Survey Equipment

he Destiny USA project in Syracuse, New York, is a project full of innovative technologies, new ideas, and forward-thinking. Cianbro Corporation has embraced this project and one step taken was acquiring a G3-enabled GNSS Receiver–an advanced satellite positioning technology.

What is usually a two person activity now only needs one team member. The “G3” is the first technology to combine all three global navigation satellite positioning systems. The existing systems are GPS, GLONASS, and the European Galileo system. GPS, the American system, and GLONASS, the Russian system, are the most commonly used satellite systems whereas the European Galileo system is fairly new. This aspect demonstrates the value of this system because it also uses the next generation of satellite positioning technology.

The cable-free Team member John Quinn base and rover operworks with the new “G3” ation enables the surveying technician to experience no hassles from broken cables and it is a simple system to learn and use.

The user-friendly field controller has a full color touch screen and graphical Windows interface. This controller operates on a wireless Bluetooth connection.

The information the surveyor collects is conveniently accessed on his computer using the software that comes with the unit. The unit is also easily rechargeable and comes with charging cradles for the batteries and a case to conveniently carry the entire kit.

Project Surveyor John Quinn is more than enthusiastic about using this device. It allows him to position coordinates by himself. He no longer has to wait for equipment or materials to be moved to get the information he needs. The satellites in space are his “transit person.”

The project looks forward to learning from this new technology and experiencing its benefits along the way.

Utility Services Update

ast year was another busy

year for our Substation and Line crew working throughout Maine and New Hampshire! In the summer of 2005, Cianbro received its first opportunity to construct a major substation for the Public Service of New Hampshire (PSNH). This project—the Scobie Pond Substation—was a huge success and that opened doors in this market for Cianbro Corporation leading to continuous substation work ever since.

Last year started off with the electrical construction of PSNH’s Timber Swamp 345/34.5kV Substation in Hampton, New Hampshire. Once again our team, lead by Lenny Jackson, stepped up to the plate to deliver a safe and successful project right on schedule. In just three months the 345kV yard was cut in and successfully energized. The yard structural work and equipment erection was supervised by Gary Chisholm while the control house wiring and terminations were being completed by Richard Bachelder, Dan Cole, Jeff Gillespie, and Brian Labbe.

In June we moved out of Hampton and headed to two new project sites.

The first was the PSNH Beebe River 115kV substation in Campton, New Hampshire. The Cianbro Corporation team began work immediately on outfitting a new control house and expanding the existing yard with new capacitor banks, breakers, and switches. The second project that began at this time was for Kennebunk Light & Power where our team constructed a new 115/12.47kV substation in Kennebunk, Maine. Thanks to all who participated in these two very successful projects including Milo Cone, Lea Ross, and Byron Weymouth.

Also this summer we landed an opportunity to install foundations and underground electrical for PSNH at their White Lake Substation in Tamworth, New Hampshire. Jeff Johnson lead the charge on this project with help from Ed Dushon, Tom 2 4

This project involved the construction of a new control house and a combination of over 100 precast and cast-in-place concrete foundations.

Soon after we began work at White Lake, Cianbro Corporation was named the successful bidder on two more PSNH substation civil packages: the Power Street Substation in Hudson, New Hampshire, and the Weare Substation in Weare, New Hampshire.

Last year our sights were aimed at the new Fitzwilliam 345/115kV Substation project in Fitzwilliam, New Hampshire. This is one of New England’s largest substation projects which includes four auto transformers, four 345kV breakers, five 115kV Breakers, an 88 foot control house, and over 350 foundations all contained within a nine acre, fenced in area. We are pleased to announce that Cianbro Corporation was awarded this project and began construction in September. Thanks to Mike Foster and the Northern New England estimating team for helping secure this project.

Also thanks to Mike Goucher and his team, to Cam Rand for kicking off the civil portion of this project, and to Lenny Jackson and his team for their help with the electrical construction.

In addition to all the PSNH work, we are excited about the upcoming opportunities with Central Maine Power (CMP). We were recently awarded the civil and electrical construction of their Mussey Road substation in Scarborough, Maine. We have also been awarded the construction of all foundations at their new

Maguire Road substation project in Kennebunk, Maine While all this substation work was taking place, our utility services team was busy this year on a number of projects with CMP. The spring months were filled with three transmission line projects in Maine. They included the construction of an eight mile, 34.5kV line in Dover Foxcroft; an eight mile line in Raymond; and another two and a half miles of line in South Berwick. Our thanks to Jerry

and the line team for their efforts in completing these three very successful and safe projects.

In July, the utility services team switched their attention to another project for CMP. The Nestle Distribution Line project involved running approximately ten miles of 34.5kV transmission line in the Farmington, Maine, area. This new transmission line will supply power to the new Poland Spring Bottling Plant that is being constructed in nearby Kingfield

New structural steel for the tipping building supplied by Cianbro Fabrication & Coating

The Semass project in West Wareham, Massachusetts, began in midMay and was recently completed. Work includes repairs to the trash-toenergy plant that was damaged by a fire in the summer of 2006 for Covanta Energy. The project includes erection of over 550 tons of structural steel, which was furnished by Cianbro Fabrication & Coatings Corporation.

The steel was erected efficiently and safely even though work took place while the plant remained in operation. The team peaked at 19 people.

Bill Moulton was the project superintendent and because of the quality of work that the team has produced, Covanta Energy added to Cianbro’s scope of work on a weekly basis. Chris Pond supervised the civil work on the project while Scott Popoloski coordinated the major steel erection with the help of Buster Grignon. Mike Abbott was in charge of all of the intermediate steel. Three of our summer interns— Kellie Johnson, Jamie Ketch, and Kevin Scott—finished out the summer at the Semass project.

Soft Tissue Training Initiative

ast year, as the Northern New England region was gearing up for a busy year that promised to place team members in challenging work environments, regional leaders Mike Bennett, Charlie Cianchette, Earle Cianchette, Chris Scott, and Red Webster identified soft tissue injuries as a major exposure for the region. As Manager of Projects, Red Webster suggested, “We are all industrial athletes. By giving team members the knowledge they need to keep a good blood flow to their tendons and joints we give them the tools they need to help avoid soft tissue injuries.” The decision to invest in a training program delivered by professional physical therapists and made accessible to all Northern New England projects was made. SmartCare Physical Therapy of Dixfield, Maine, was chosen to deliver the training.

An important goal of the training initiative was to provide consistent training for project teams so that there would be follow-through at all levels after the training was completed. Lauren Hebert PT, OCS, owner of SmartCare, Physical Therabpy delivered a pilot program to over 300 team members assigned to the Hornbeck project and working at Ricker’s Wharf in Portland during four days last April. The program consisted of two hour sessions for craft workers, and four hour sessions for supervisors. The two hour class focused on body mechanics and how the joints work. Each team member was given a handbook, which included guides to micro-stretches that can be performed as needed during the work day. The four hour class included the same information with an added emphasis on the supervisor’s role in responding to and properly handling situations that pertained to muscle and joint pain and stiffness, as well as tips on avoiding situa-

By empowering team members with knowledge, stretching activities increased dramatically and team members were much more aware of why they were doing what they were doing. Many commented that a brief stretch after working in an awkward position really made a difference.

Because of the success at Hornbeck the program was rolled out to the remaining Northern New England projects.

Through August and September twenty classes were delivered at sixteen different locations ranging from Calais, Maine, to Berlin, New Hampshire, to West Wareham, Massachusetts! In addition to Lauren Hebert, Allen Wicken PT, MS and Glenn MacLean-Talbot MSPT also of SmartCare Physical Therapy instructed sessions in order to meet our demanding schedule. Sam Wagg, a physical therapy major at the University of Maine and a Cianbro summer intern was able to spend his last three weeks of internship working with these professionals in industrial ergonomics. Without Lauren and Allen’s willingness to work with us regarding the varied scheduling challenges required to meet jobsite needs and to accommodate multiple shifts as well as last minute changes, we would not have been able to accomplish our goal. Critical to success was each supervisor who planned their work activities in such a way to accommodate this training and send their people to the sessions.

Without the support, cooperation and involvement of each jobsite this would not have been successful.

West Wing Expansion

ianbro Corporation has teamed with Harriman Associates of Auburn, Maine, for the West Wing Expansion at Procter and Gamble’s Tambrands facility in Auburn, Maine. The expansion, which is a fast track, design-build project, broke ground on May 14, 2007. The building project—a 46,000 sf addition to the existing Tambrands Manufacturing facility—will be the home for three new manufacturing lines, a warehouse area to store the raw materials prior to production, and a mechanical room to house the new building electrical and mechanical equipment. The clearing, grubbing, excavation, and drainage activities started immediately. Foundation construction started soon after and was completed by the July 4th holiday and building erection had begun.

Cianbro is acting as the construction manager for the project and self performed the foundation footings, walls, rebar, and all related components to include over 350 anchor bolts at a tolerance of less than 1/8 of an inch. The civil work and coordination of the related subcontracts has been orchestrated by General Foreman Bruce Dube and his Foremen, Tom Belanger, Chris Brann, and Darren Shoff. The supporting team included Chad Alley, Tom Hamel, Ryan Marcotte, Aaron Preble, Bruce Weston, and Tom Wozniak. On any given day you could

see this gang setting form work, tying rebar, placing and finishing concrete for footings and walls, and stripping forms in order to get ready for the next day. A great job for this versatile group of go getters!

The Cianbro Corporation Construction Management team of Lou Campbell (design coordination), Kim Chapman (mechanical and piping general foreman), Aaron Cianchette (project superintendent), Linc Denison Jr. (project engineer), Peter Dube (site safety), Phil Dube (electrical engineer), and Ernie Selberg (site manager), continued to plan and coordinate the work as the design packages neared completion.

The electrical team, led by Marty Roach, has been in charge of the instal-

lation of all temporary and permanent power, lighting, conduit, and all building services. They have managed to perform this work under, on, around, over, and through the multitude of other activities happening on site. The weather-sensitive work was installed just after the roof, block walls, structural steel and slab work in order to stay on track with the fall completion date. The crew made up of Andy Bowden, Larry Derosier, Tom Hamel, Manley Lyons, Chris McKenna, and Matt Raven

worked a rotating shift to maximize equipment, utilize weekend access to otherwise congested areas, and stay ahead of their scheduled completion for their work activities.

The mechanical work was put out in smaller work packages after the

In order to allow access for oversized pieces of permanent equipment being delivered, as well as a steady flow of materials and supplies, the team left out three exterior wall panels, a section of roof membrane, and slab-on-grade inside the building in order to build an eight foot high ramp that allowed concrete trucks, reach trucks, fork lifts, aerial lifts, and other equipment to get in and out of the building safely and efficiently. The slabs-on-grade utilized a dowel plate basket technology to minimize curling and maximize load transfer at the joints. The design criteria for the slabs are strict and tolerances were tight.

All of the rebar mats were pre-tied and piece marked on site. Pumping and direct chute placement was used dependent on the access to the slab sections. Regardless of the placement method and extra reinforcement in the slabs, the result was a finished product that engineers, the owner,

primary design for the building was complete. All related piping and mechanical installations to complete the HVAC units, equipment tied in to the existing facility, compressed air, and chilled and hot water piping were completed in short order. The mechanical and piping crew led by Tim Doyal includes Duane Boissoneault, Bob Bouchard, Dan Dubois, and Darren Pulkkinen. This crew pre-fabricated large sections of piping and related components as their work areas came available for installation. When they got the call that the work area was free of other construction activities and installation could begin, they were in and out, tested, and complete with no issues remaining.

Coordination has been the name of the game on this job with major contracts such as the pre-engineered building shell that included design, fabrication, and erection. Also masonry block, roofing, paint, doors and hardware, and all site work were directed and re-directed in order to accommodate this challenging project completion date.

Wyeth Biotech ■

In December 2006, Cianbro Corporation was awarded the contract for the first phase of the Building A Water for Injection (WFI) by Jacobs Engineering, the construction manager for Wyeth Biotech in Andover, Massachusetts. Project Manager Ed Jones and Superintendent Aubrey Moore started the job in motion, lining up a team to complete the work. The first phase of this work involved construction of a new motor control center (MCC) room for future electrical needs and relocation of the Building A trash room and shipping and receiving services to isolate the future WFI site from current Wyeth Operations.

Last January, a small Cianbro team mobilized on site to start the work activities. General foreman Eric Brown, along with Keith Edwards, Jeremy Kyllonen, Wayne McNally, and Web Sanborn initiated dust control measures and performed miscellaneous frame wall and masonry wall demolition. Szetella Masonry moved in to build new masonry walls and Wagner Drywall followed installing new frame and gypsum walls. The Cianbro team was later supplemented by Phil Heroux, Brian Kendrick, Dana Robinson, and Tom Wozniak as work progressed. Concrete floors were removed and new reinforced concrete footings and slabs on grade were placed for the MCC room while an elevated slab was formed and placed for the MCC room roof. New loading dock and trash-out areas were built and doors relocated to move Wyeth’s operations out of what would become the WFI area. Finish painting was performed by the Cianbro crew as construction was completed and Stonhard applied the specialty floor coatings.

As the first phase was finishing up, Jacobs released the balance of the civil/structural/architectural package for the project to Cianbro Corporation. This work included demolition of the discontinued trash-out room and loading docks and construction of a room for the new water plant—over four feet lower in elevation than the original floor. The existing B/5 column foundation in the middle of the area needed to be replaced at a lower elevation to accommodate the new depressed slab. A sump pit for the new process would entail excavation of 14 feet below the existing floor adjacent to the B/5 column footing. Sev-

Scott Babb

Many of the 18 years he worked as a rigger/ironworker foreman were with me on projects throughout Northern New England. With a smile on his face, he was always the first to offer his Scott Babb help on or off the job.

You always knew that he would be there—all you had to do was ask.

eral alternative engineering and design concepts were proposed by Cianbro Corporation and accepted by the client.

A series of engineered excavation and temporary support plans were developed with the assistance of Alan Fisher to support the building while the existing B/5 column foundation was being replaced. Soldier pile and lagging details were also designed for earth support around the depressed pit area and the sump pit excavation.

After a short while, the second phase of this project started up, with Tharryn Smith assuming the project manager role and Chris Kiernan coming on board as project engineer. The next phase included installation of temporary protection around plant-critical utilities in the work area and installation of a pipe/utility support grid box tubing under the floor above.

Wagner Drywall moved back in to install a multiple layer drywall sound attenuating ceiling between the ceiling grid and the existing ceiling surrounded by fragile, plant-critical utilities.

After the overhead work was successfully completed Jim Dittrich, Nick Hadley, Albert Moulton, and Eric Seaman joined the project team. Approximately 2,000 sf of floor slab was removed, 50 lf of the front wall with dock leveler pits was removed, and excavation inside the building began. All of the B/5 column temporary support and replacement work, as well as the soldier pile/lagging and sump pit work went very well.

Early into the work, Wyeth’s geotechnical consultant made a site visit and was extremely impressed with the planning and execution of the work. As the excavation work was progressing for the depressed pit, concrete work and frame walls were completed in the adjacent pre-treatment area.

The placement of the depressed pit slab—a major milestone for the project—was followed by the construction of the walls around the depressed pit, replacement of the remainder of the floor at the original elevation, and miscellaneous equipment curbs and pads. The majority of our work was complete by the end of September and the remaining work was mostly masonry, drywall, and specialty coatings as the equipment arrived and was installed. The balance of the contract was completed by year’s end.

job came up, there was no question that, if I had my way, Scotty would be there at my side. He would go anywhere and do anything for the company. His big heart and work ethic was second to none.

Scotty enjoyed watching all of the New England Sports teams, and being such a big baseball fanatic he never gave up on his beloved Red Sox. Unlike me who was never comfortable without a 10 run lead, Scotty always felt confident that the Sox would win and, when they did, he would delight in telling me “I told you so.”

Scotty’s gifts were his children Caitlin and Thomas. How wonderful it was to see his eyes light up when he would tell you how proud he was of them both. He was their biggest fan and there was never any doubt how much he loved them both.

I am sure I am speaking for everyone when I say that Scotty will always be in our hearts and we all hope that he understood how much he will be missed. I will miss the wonderful stories about Caitlin and Thomas, the projects that we have worked on, and our many debates about the Red Sox. Most of all I will miss the wonderful person that Scotty was and the wonderful friend that he was to me.

He is survived by his daughter Caitlin Babb and son Thomas Babb both of Yarmouth, Maine; his father Richard of Biddeford; sister Laurie Babb Anderson and her husband Andy of Portland; two brothers Jeff Babb and friend Lauren of Naples and Chris Babb of Biddeford; paternal grandmother Irene Babb; and nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

John Ricker Jr.

By Bill Moulton Team member John R. Ricker Jr. of Falmouth, Maine died November 16, 2007, after a hard fought battle with cancer. John had 30 colorful years of service with Cianbro as an ironworker, rigger, and marine construction specialist. Johnny most recently worked on the Dragon project.

Over the years, John John Ricker Jr. worked on dozens of different projects from Southern Mississippi to Northern Maine. Often he was involved with rigging projects that were complicated and high profile. Some of the prominent projects Johnny worked on included Conawingo Dam, South Bank Bridge, Tapanzee Bridge, Catskill Creek Bridge, Beverly-Salem Bridge, ■

Amethyst Oil Rigs, and the famous “Marshvegas.”

At work John appeared nonchalant, but was actually very committed to the success of a project. Team members respected him and his abilities, and he was a good mentor. Johnny loved to operate “dinnies” and it showed: John could thread a needle with a loaded barge wide open!

Johnny was a man of many talents and a great sense of humor. He was extremely quick witted and musically inclined and could create song lyrics in moments. He sang in a choir as a youngster and often sang his children to sleep. He loved John Wayne and Elvis, and could quote most “Duke” lines or sing any Elvis Christmas carol. Johnny was an avid fan of the New England Patriots, the Dallas Cowboys, and the Boston Red Sox. He was an accomplished golfer and was often found on the Sugarloaf links with his dad, brother, and a cooler full of cold Budweiser.

Johnny also loved his motorcycles—the louder the better—and was often found wearing a faded Harley Davidson shirt. In April of last year, he proudly finished a three-year project building a custom chopper and would grin the whole time while riding it.

Johnny always lived life like every day may be his last. The cup was always half full even when he felt his worst. He loved his wife Suzie and family and was so proud of his children Justin, Lindsey, Ashley, and Jacob. He was a friend you could count on and his positive outlook on life was contagious. Even though he was taken from us too soon, he left his mark on hundreds of lives and will be missed greatly.

Team member Jamie Douvielle adds, “For the first five years I knew John, he was my friend and mentor.

The last five years of knowing him, he became my hero.”

Our thoughts and prayers are with John’s family. We will miss him dearly.

Cianbro Fabrication & Coating Corporation Enters New Market ■

Cianbro Fabrication & Coating Corporation team under Carl Cross’s leadership has been testing the market to determine the feasibility of manufacturing boiler headers, code power piping/pipe spooling, and other pressure vessel components. We are currently pursuing this work in the present Cianbro Companies geographic regions.

In the mid 1990s through the early 2000s there were many new fossil fuel power plants being built across the country. About five years into this boom, combined cycle plants became popular as well. At the time these various facilities were being built, the major priority was to get the plants constructed economically and on line as soon as possible. As a result, the best quality parts or materials may not have been installed in these units. Many of these facilities were intended to be only base loaded but ended up being peak loaded facilities, which means the amount of facility cycling is increased tremendously. This cycling has accelerated the wear and maintenance requirements of many components. An additional key point is that technology has changed tremendously through the years and it is

time for replacements and upgrades.

Presently, many of these plants are aging and are in need of scheduled maintenance and component upgrades. With that in mind, we believe there is a potential to capitalize on a new business sector for our company.

The Cianbro Companies have extensive knowledge and experience in the boiler maintenance and replacement industry. Cianbro Fabrication & Coating Corporation has been supplying boiler components for our construction group for many years. Since our service and pricing is very competitive, we have been sought after by a few customers to provide components, as well. As a result we realize there is an opportunity to offer a better level of service to our customers in this market by supplying boiler-related replacement parts. We work together with the Cianbro Construction team and our customer to pre-determine what their needs would be. Together, we offer assistance to measure and build parts in-house to be sure they are ready for the outage. Through our years of experience, our team has built a higher quality replacement component with a better life cycle to eliminate or extend scheduled maintenance. These

arly last summer our Southern New England team installed a 1.5 megawatt wind turbine at the Jiminy Peak Ski Resort in Hancock, Massachusetts. Cianbro Corporation was hired by the resort to develop a conceptual estimate for the installation of the wind turbine on the mountain and, as a result of those efforts, we were awarded the contract to erect the wind turbine.

The General Electric 1.5 MW wind turbine consists of three tower sections collectively weighing over 145 tons. The base section weighs 65 tons and is the heaviest with a 15 foot bottom diameter, making it a challenge to transport and handle. The middle and upper tower sections weigh 47 and 33 tons, respectively, and together are approximately 182 feet long with a diameter of 11 feet at the top. The generator assembly, or Nacelle, sits on top of the 253 foot tower with a rotor assembly of three blades spanning 123 feet each.

challenge in hauling the heavy and lengthy loads. Our Design Engineer, Tom Gilbert, created a custom trailer with a steerable rear dolly to transport the loads up and over the mountain.

The project required up to four bulldozers to help pull and hold back the heavy loads!

Ironworker Foreman Bill Adams and his rigging crew set the base of the tower on the foundation and proceeded to grout the base assisted by Civil Foreman Garret McVaney. Ironworker Foreman Chris Chasse and his team of welders fabricated components and hauled them to the rigging crew assembling the pieces. Once the tower was assembled, the team moved on to the installation of the Nacelle, blades, and hub. The 62 ton Nacelle was first set onto the top tower section. The crew then attached the blades to the rotor assembly on the ground and connected that to the Nacelle at the top of the tower. The team used a Liebherr 1400 crane to erect the turbine with a 75 ton roughterrain crane assisting in the twocrane picks.

TENNESSEE GAS, continued from page 1 chain of compressor stations along the Tennessee Gas Pipeline system and transport large quantities of natural gas from the Gulf of Mexico to the New England region. The project at each location involved installation of six, new 3,550 horsepower, gas-fired Caterpillar engines that power reciprocating compressors designed to increase the rate of product that moves through the pipeline. Upon completion of the new compressor stations, the pipeline is now able to transport an additional 130 million cubic feet of natural gas each day.

This is more than a 10% increase in volume.

More than 150 Cianbro Corporation team members have worked over 180,000 hours to meet the arduous and demanding project schedule, most recently working twelve hours a day, seven days a week. Despite the long hours, productivity at the sites remained high and safety remained paramount to success. The civil crews placed 3,600 cy of concrete for compressor foundations, footings, walls, and sidewalks. The piping crew installed more than 21,000 lf of pipe, ranging from two inch potable water lines, to 16 inch and 24 inch high pressure gas suction and discharge lines with all x-ray quality welds yielding a success rate of over 99%. The electrical crews installed 40,000 lf of conduit, pulled upwards of 140,000 lf of cable, and completed nearly 6,000 terminations. The mechanical team successfully rigged and set the six, 120-ton compressor units, and prefabricated motor control centers (MCCs), 50 foot tall exhaust silencers, jacket water cooling structures, and fans. The sites also saw the erection of a new 90 foot by 70 foot by 40 foot tall pre-engineered steel building that house the compressor units and associated equipment.

With the majority of the work for the stations completed, the projects entered the final stretch and the commissioning of each station. One set of work that is unique to the West Winfield site—and the reason for an extended period of the plant shutdown—is a full upgrade of the existing auxiliary building. This included

the replacement of the existing generators, air compressor, and MCC switchgear that provide power and control for the entire station.

he Eastern Manufacturing project in Brewer, Maine, has created a tremendous amount of interest and excitement in the Central Maine region! The arrival of this groundbreaking modularity project is being heralded in numerous ways including participation in a business vendor fair held in Brewer, Maine, on November 16, that was visited by over 175 local business people interested in working with Cianbro in various capacities.

A new and attractive Cianbro kiosk is currently located at the Bangor Mall in Bangor, Maine, in the Sears Wing. The Kiosk is designed to: • Inform passer byes about the tremendous career opportunities available with the new Eastern Manufacturing Project and the Cianbro Companies.

• Connect with the over three million shoppers that will pass by the kiosk during its six month tenure at the mall.

• Serve as a staffed recruiting center during strategic peak periods.

• Provide a second venue for business people who missed the vendor fair to learn more about Cianbro, potentially leading future new partnerships and opportunities
