Siren Song - The Mysterious Florida Manatee
Mistaken for mermaids by early sailors, manatees continue to beguile and intrigue us even today. Join April Frederick, Education Program Coordinator at The Manatee Observation and Education Center in Fort Pierce, to learn more about these majestic and mysterious creatures. Frederick will share more about how manatees were once hunted for food by early pioneers, are more closely related to land animals than their fellow marine mammals, and how they are a species on the road to recovery.
Stroll down memory lane with your favorite Disney films. With Stacey Malaret, Director of the LEAD Scholars Academy at the University of Central Florida, you’ll review video clips from early films and discuss the princess characters in each, their feminist traits – or lack thereof – and how these traits relate to what was going on at the same time in the U.S. women’s rights movement.
It’s Physical and Mental Fitness Month at the Center for Health & Wellbeing. All Physical and Mental Fitness programs are highlighted in yellow. Unless otherwise noted, all programs are hosted by the Winter Park Health Foundation.
