Notes

Who I Want to Be

At its heart, Who I Want to Be is a beautiful reflection on growing up, finding yourself, and the importance of community. The music moves between moments where the choir sings together as one voice and layered sections where the lyrics echo gently through the different sections. With its uplifting message, this piece is a powerful reminder of what it means to lift each other up as we figure out who we want to be.

Who I Want to Be

Adoramus te Andy Beck

This exquisite piece features two concise Latin phrases. Each vocal part introduces independent melodies which are then combined to create beautiful harmonies. It’s a perfect piece for singers to learn part independence, pure vowels, and lyrical singing!

Starlight

Mary Donnelly and George L.O. Strid

Inspired by Tanabata, the Japanese star festival that commemorates a poignant legend of star-crossed lovers, this piece blends simple Japanese text as a recurring refrain with a newly composed melody set to the familiar “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” lyrics.

“Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star”

J’entends Le Moulin

This Québécois folk song traces its origins to France, where it was originally known as Monpèreafaitbâtirmaison . The text tells a playful and ironic story of a young woman telling that her father built a house and a mill for her. The lively, fast-moving French text, paired with a clear, bell-like choral tone and a virtuosic piano accompaniment, makes this arrangement a true showpiece for the choir.

Earworm - Mark Burrows

Who doesn't love an earworm? This song that will just get in there and stick! The humorous text is set with a catchy melody and creative harmony parts that are just so fun to sing and has become our most favorite! ใครบ้างจะไม่เคยมีเสียงหรือเพลงที่ติดหู

When I Grow Up (From Matilda the Musical)

Tim Minchin, arr. Roger Emerson

A little bit cheeky, a little bit naughty, and completely delightful, this song offers a witty look at the future through the eyes of kids. Straight from the hit stage adaptation of Roald Dahl’s classic book, it captures all the big hopes, sweet wishes, and funny expectations children have about finally becoming adults. This upbeat arrangement brings the whole choir together to share a high-energy, nostalgic favorite that will have everyone in the audience smiling.

When I Grow Up

Phleng Chang (เพลง ช้าง )

arr.

Five elephants or three? "Haveyoueverseenanelephant?"or "Doyou knowwhatanelephantis?" Is it "tusks under the trunk" or "twolong, hollow tusks"? This beloved Thai children's song has sparked endless, playful debates among generations of Thais over what the "true" lyrics actually are. In this delightful choral arrangement, however, there is no need to choose; both traditional versions are woven together into a seamless and harmonious blend.

Sawaddee (สวัสดี )

Rat Katesing & Romdee Wasanasong, arr. Kittikhun Sodprasert

Despite its Thai title, this pop song uses English lyrics to introduce the traditional Thai greeting and the graceful "Wai" to the world. In our choir, it’s a fun inside joke that whenever we rehearse this piece, an international gig must be on the horizon! Since our local audience already knows these customs, this is our way of proudly sharing authentic Thai culture with the world.
