The origin of the LOD concept?

LOD 100 (Concept Design)
Thisisthefirststageofabuildingproject.Itshowsthemodelfromthesimplestpossible perspectivewithverylittleinformation.Modelsarerepresentedusingeithersymbolic orgraphicalconnotations.Themodel’sdetaildefinesthesize,area,heights,orientation, volume,andsoforth.Thismodelgenerallyusesapproximateterms.
LOD 200 (Schematic Design)
Thesecondstageofdetailconsistsofdetailsaboutthematerialsandtheirquantitiesof them.Thisstageshowsthemodelinitsentirety.Thedifferentmodelingcharacteristics aredisplayedaccordingtotheirexactshapes,sizes,locations,andorientations.This stagealsoincludesnon-geometricandnon-graphicalinformation.Eventhoughthis stageisapproximate,itcanbeused.
LOD 300 (Detailed Design)



Allmeasurementsandinformationrelatedtothemodelarenowpresentedinamore preciseform.Themodel’scharacteristicsarepresentedinamoredetailedmanner.The modelprovidesprecisedetailsaboutthedimensions,shape,quantity,position, orientation,andsize.Basedontherequirementsofrawmaterialsandotherresources, thedetailsarecalculated.Theelementsandthedefinitionoftheprojectaregivenhere.
LOD 350 (Construction Documentation)
Theactualconstructioncanbeginoncethefoundationhasbeenbuilt.Thisstageis whereclashdetectiontakesplace.Clashesareimmediatelyrectified.Aconnectionis madebetweenthevariousconstructionelementsandotherbuildings.These characteristicsarenotgraphical.
LOD 400 (Fabrication & Assembly)
Thisisacrucialstageofthemodelingprocess.Thisstageiswherethefinedetailsofthe modelareaddedforfinalexecution.Thisstageincludesalldetailsoftheproject.
