s.smith EVERGREEN WHO? After beating Evergreen High School in the annual Mountain Bowl on November 1, the seniors hoist the trophy high in the air. For the first time in four years, the Lobos won the rivalry game. “The game was just hard fought. That’s been our biggest goal all year was to beat Evergreen tonight. And I guarantee at least half the seniors have been dreaming about this for months now and it was just the cherry on top of this season so far,” senior Caleb Barker said.

That’s a normal thing to say but yeah it really does feel good. It’s really exciting to see that in big rivalry games and stuff like this we can still come out and keep our composure no matter what

Not being able to play on your home field may be hard for some, but for the Lobos it was something they learned to work around because they had a goal of winning playoffs. The Lobos played their first game on their new turf against George Washington High School on November 9, in a special game where the field was dedicated to Coach Larry Fitzmaurice (Fitz). Fitz had coached since the school opened 24 years ago. After the win against George Washington, 55-7, Fitz had a total of 146 wins with all of the teams over the years. In the second to last game of the season, the team played rival Evergreen High School in the annual Mountain Bowl. The Lobos won the game 49-21 making them 9-0 on the season. “Being 9-0 feels amazing. We really needed this win, it’s been four years so it just feels great getting the trophy this year,” senior Chadwick (Chad) Gilman said. The first round of playoffs was on November 16 on Fitzmaurice Field against Fort Morgan High School. The Lobos won 38-21. On November 23, the Lobos played Palmer Ridge High School in the second round of the playoffs losing 56-35. “It was a pretty tough game but it was a great way to end the season. I couldn’t have wished for a better group of guys to play the game that I love with one last time,” senior Samuel Dunivan said.
