Happy November, Chargers!

I hope that all of you had a great time at Region Training Conference this past month! I’m so proud to be part of a club that’s got so much spirit and an overwhelming passion for service that we pass on to others.

While we don’t have too many school days this month, I highly encourage you all to attend our Saturday service events and give back to the community. You will need to have 25 hours to be officially inducted into Key Club International during our Winter Inductions! Keep attending events and coming to meetings so you can be informed of new opportunities.

Also, if you’re attending Fall Rally South on November 12, please put in the effort to learn your cheers! We can’t win the Spirit Stick without everybody’s help!

Hey Clark Cuties!

Can you believe that its already November?

Over the past month, we've raised $400 to donate to Lions Club International and raised over $100 for American Cancer Society. That's over $500 raised for charity!

Region Training Conference was also this past month. I cannot express how proud I am of all of you.

You all are amazing you all inspire me to do my best every single day. This is a bit cheesy but I fall in love again with Key Club every day because of you all.

Now that Region Training Conference has passed, it is Fall Rally South season! For those of you attending, make sure to attend cheers preps so that we can win that Fall Rally spirit stick! Go Seamonkeys!

November is now here. Just because it is No School November does not mean it is No Service November. Continue to go to as many service events as you can!

Get those 25 hours so you can get inducted for the winter!

ARTICLE BY: LILY YAN The Clark Annual Car Wash was the first volunteer event that I attended as a member of Key Club. I did not know what to expect, but I certainly didn’t think that I’d have such an exhausting, but fun day! When we first arrived, it was extremely hot, and in just a couple of minutes, the sun was already starting to warm me up. We gathered by the sidewalks surrounding the street, holding up dozens of eye-catching posters advertising the car wash to passing cars. For two hours, we screamed our throats sore and ran around the streets. We came up with different chants and songs, yelling them to the cars as they sped past us. Then, we switched with some of the other members and went to wash the cars. It was so refreshing to be able to wash our hands in the cool water after standing in the sun for so long. For a while, there were almost no cars, but towards the last hour, there was suddenly a long line of them. Everybody who was sitting around and resting was called to help pitch in in washing all of the cars and the Key Clubbers advertising out on the streets were told to slow down on the promoting. I felt like this was probably the best moment of the day, because it really made me feel like we were part of a big family that was working together towards one cause. Together, we finished washing all of the cars waiting in line and at the end, when I heard that we had made around $300, I was so happy for volunteering at this event. Though I didn’t get much sleep that weekend, the Clark Car Wash was certainly a great event to volunteer at for my first Key Club hours!

ARTICLE BY: IRIS LUYEN Under the bright, burning sun and amongst the wind, my first two hours during this event were spent advertising. Although it may sound like it was a pretty bad experience, I actually had a really fun time. The really enjoyable part of that experience was just being able to do something new with my friends. I remember shouting my heart out along with them, thinking that my voice would die out in a few minutes, and how we ran to press the button to “cross the street”, so the light would turn red. I can recall the many people who just shook their heads and ignored us, but the ones I remember the most are the ones who took interest and ended up getting their car washed. We cheered in happiness every time a car entered the parking lot and I felt a little burst of happiness inside. My arms got pretty tired trying to hold up the sign and eventually, I just became the person pointing in the direction of the car wash. During the whole time I was advertising though, I was lowkey trying to keep my feet out of the sun, because I had already had a pretty bad shoe tan...

After switching out with a few other people, I began washing cars. I was so confused for the first few minutes, but after watching others for a bit, I understood how things worked. I began to realize how much work it was after an hour in, but I didn’t really mind it. The whole time, I just thought to myself, “Ay. Remember, you’re making someone’s day right now by cleaning their car,” and it just pushed me to keep going (not saying that I didn’t take breaks, so sorry). I liked seeing everyone get along and working together to get things done. Other than that, just spending time with the people I care about a lot was something that made this event really memorable.

training conference ARTICLE BY: KAYLA ARCANGEL This was my first ever RTC, and it was one of the best experiences I've had in my life. Every year I scroll through my social media to find pictures from this event, anxiously waiting for the time that I get to go.

This year, I finally got to experience what it was like. RTC has shown me another side of Key Club, and made me fall in love with it even more. The amount of energy and spirit encouraged me to get out there and express more spirit and pride for my school. I made new friends and I saw some friends that go to different schools. This made me realize that Key Club is not only about service, it's also about getting people together.

With all the workshops that were there, I learned A LOT more about Key Club, while also having fun with the ice breakers. At the spirit sessions, I cheered so hard I eventually lost my voice, but who cares, right? I got to represent Clark with an amazing group of people that I'd like to consider my "family". Even though we didn't win the spirit stick this year, at the end of the day, we're still the best! I'm so happy to be a part of a club with so much spirit and smiles, and I can't wait for next year!

ARTICLE BY: TANDREANA CHUA RTC 2k16 might've been one of my favorite RTC's out of my 3 years in Key Club (shout out to those who contributed to the spirit gear because that stuff is cute). I was so happy to see all the new freshies experience and throw themselves into this enormous organization, without knowing what was happening (unless that was just me in my first year, oops), and show as much school spirit as their little bodies could produce! I also enjoyed how easily all the schools bonded through our love for Key Club through workshops, the dance, lunch, and our dislike towards the smelly bathrooms (we bonded outside them, though). I only have one more RTC left, and this one in particular made me realize I only have such a tiny amount of time left both as a Key Club member and as a Clark student, and I should enjoy as much time while it lasts. I’m pumped for next year’s RTC; GO CLARK!

fall festival ARTICLE BY: WINNIE TAT Volunteering at the Pat Diskin Fall Festival was a really entertaining and wonderful experience. The part I enjoyed the most was when I got to see many kids wearing their cute little Halloween costumes, ranging from princesses to angels to ninjas. There were many different activities that the kids could enjoy such as an arts and crafts station and a cake walk, and if they got hungry, they could buy some popcorn using their tickets or go outside for some delicious hamburgers and pizza. We all helped out at different stations and some of us even passed out candy for the mini trick-ortreating they organized. I had a blast helping out with the cake walk, although there weren't many kids interested at first it became quite popular by the end of the event as we gave out most of the candy and lots of cupcakes. The atmosphere was really festive and energetic (especially from all that sugar that was being consumed), especially outside where kids were running wild on the playground and excitedly played many of the games while their parents sat down enjoying their food.

Afterwards, towards the end we helped clean up and put back the games back. I'm glad I signed up for this event and I'm even more excited for more events to come.

dodgeball tournament ARTICLE BY: MATTHEW WONG The D28W Dodgeball Tournament took place at West CTA. There was a five dollar fee that we had to pay if we wanted to play. Since I hadn't went to previous dodgeball tournaments, this one my first one. Although only Clark and West CTA showed up, the D28W Dodgeball Tournament was still a very memorable event! I got to have fun with people I already knew as well as meet new people! I plan on attending next time, especially if more schools showed up, since I had already had a great time with people just from Clark and West CTA.

for cancer ARTICLE BY: DEAN SANTOS Kickball For Cancer is definitely one of the most distinct and enjoyable events that a Key Club member can participate in. Although you may not necessarily enjoy the activity you’ll find that there's something that you can enjoy. If you’re afraid of not being able to play well because you’ve never played kickball, don’t be! It’s a great way to meet new people, get some exercise, have fun, and most importantly, support the fight against cancer. And if kickball isn’t really your thing then coming to support the cause is fun as well! We all like cheering for each other here don’t we?

In short, Kickball For Cancer has earned a spot on the top of my list of events to participate in. Although Blue Team didn’t win this year, I’ll definitely return again to settle the score, support the cause, and have fun.
