Harvy

During hurricane Harvey my family and I got trapped in our house, the bridge that connected us to the outside world had flooded leaving us and a few neighbors stuck. Everyday someone would check on the water level to see if it was safe to leave and one day I decided to follow my dad to the river.

One of our neighbors had a bunch of little boys who were reckless and disobedient, and always doing things they shouldn’t do such as playing in a creek. When we got there four of the boys were already in the stream while a fifth one stood by on the side, he was older than the others and my dad immediately went over to talk to him. I stayed at the edge of the water watching everyone else when I saw one of the younger boys by himself, he couldn’t have been any older than six and seemed to be struggling against the current.

I stared at him waiting to see what happened next, and that’s when I saw him slip and get pulled under the water. No one but me noticed.

Before I even realized it my feet were moving, and I was running to where I last saw the boy. With every step I got closer until finally I heard a scream. I knew that if I didn’t there soon there might not be anything to get to, and so I sped up my pace. I reached where I thought he was and looked around, but I couldn’t find him anywhere. I heard him scream again, this time for help. He sounded panicked and scared, and my heart was racing like crazy, and then I spotted him. He was wedged between two trees and hanging on for dear life, I could tell from the look on his face that he wouldn’t last much longer.

I wanted to swim over to him, but I could barely stand in the current let alone attempt fight it. I began to pull off my jacket thinking I could use it to throw at him and pull him back, but it was nowhere near long enough. By this time the other boys noticed what was happening and ran to my side. I instructed them to take off their jackets so we could tie them together, everyone but the older boy I had seen before did, instead he swam over to his younger brother, and, like I thought would happen, he got stuck too.

I grabbed the jackets and tied them together,while I was doing this the younger boy climbed onto the others back, when I was done I tossed the makeshift rope over to them. Thankfully we were able to pull them both back to safety and the boy was fine if not a little shaken up.

Letters of Recommendation In the past four years that Cynthia has been a Conroe Tiger swimmer, I’ve seen her progress as a young adult. She was also a starter on our water polo team. Her senior year she was a team captain for swimming. She helps me teach fundamentals to new swimmers. Cynthia will be a great addition to any team and/or organization.

fundamentals of yearbook while also balancing her senior year. She has been a great asset to the yearbook staff as a copywriter, and I even pulled her to be on my UIL journalism team the past two years because of her writing skills and dedication to academics. She is extremely focused on her future and overall success in life.

Cynthia is a great leader and she has a real passion for helping others. She is also a bright, energetic, compassionate and genuinely well-rounded individual. Her grades have been consistently above average in all of her courses, and she always strives to better herself by the dedication and quality of her work. She has a very mature attitude for her age and never ceases to amaze me with her dedication and commitment for excellence.

In my personal interaction with Cynthia over the past year at Conroe, I found her to be a warm compassionate person who is always focused on her goals. Essay

Four continents, fourteen countries, and forty-six states all because my parents were missionaries when I was younger. I moved around a lot, generally never staying in the same place for more than a year, and although it was hard I don’t regret the experience I got from my travels.

I was born in Ufa Russia which was not exactly the safest place for my mother to have given birth. At the time Ufa was a dirty area. Air pollution, poverty, and other things like the city’s economy made it a hard place to live in which is why my parents were there, helping those in need. I lived in a home with many other kids who were either the same age as me or a few years older, and, like my parents, theirs were to busy to watch over them. Although my parents weren’t around a lot I still loved them. My mom used to tell me about how when I was younger, before even knowing how to walk, I would go running up to her whenever she was nearby. She would say it was the cutest yet heartbreaking thing she ever saw, and that no matter what happened I always tried my best to get to her.

A year after I was born my father divorced my mother, and married my stepmom, Mila. My mom left Russia and went to New York city to visit her grandma and sister who were living there at the time. I was left behind with my dad who was always so busy that it was hard to spend anytime with him. I did have older siblings, but the people we were living with, from some reason, separated all the kids by age.

We hardly ever saw each other. Instead of getting upset about it, I made new friends.

I remember playing with one little girl who didn’t speak much English and I seldom spoke Russian but we never let that stop us from having a good time playing in the snow; building icy forts which we used as our clubhouse, making snow angels on the ground, and other such things.

After our time in Russia my father thought it would be a good idea to move to America, but he needed to buy a house first. My mom came back to take my two older brothers, my sister, and I to Peru, where her sister was living with her family.

While she was doing that my father went to the U.S. looking for somewhere for us to live. We stayed there for a few months with my aunt and her kids visiting orphanages, bringing clothes, food, and other necessities to those in need. Peru was immensely different from Russia. They didn’t speak the same language I was used to, the culture was strange (in Russia people were either not religious or they we Muslim) and the weather was just a bit too warm for my taste. I didn’t know how to communicate with others, the language barrier was worse than how it was in Ufa, but I tried my best to get along with them nonetheless.

Just when I was starting to get used to living in Peru we moved again. This time we moved to America. Texas was a whole new experience for me. Everything was so green, the people were so different, and for the first time we actually had nice stuff; toys, clothes that hadn’t been donated, and amazing food, but we still did things for the Lord. I remember once when my mom dropped me and my friend off at the mall, but we didn’t go shopping. We were told to hand out fliers and ask people if they wanted to accept Jesus into their hearts. It made me feel so incredible when someone would take a pamphlet and thank me for my work, but of course not all people would be as accepting as others. There was a man that was extremely angry that I had asked him if knew Jesus that he started cursing at me. Then he started cursing my mom for letting me do something so disgraceful. She wanted to stop after that because she didn’t want someone else yelling at her, but not me. I had never had something like that happen before, but there was absolutely no way I was about to let that stop me from doing what I felt was right.

Although my childhood might not have been normal, I don’t regret anything that happened because each and every experience has made me the determined and adaptable person I am today.

Texas Roadhouse- I worked at Texas Roadhouse from 2015 through 2017 as a hostess and as a togo person.

Outback Steak House-I am currently working at Outback.

During the summer I was chosen to take a trip to Washington DC for a Mock congressional meeting. During this trip we were dived into groups and given a current issues to write a bill about. We were then supposed to present the written bill to the other groups and see if it would pass as a law. My group was given drug epidemic and, after much debating we finalized it, and even went as far as actually showing it to a congressmen.

Future Me

While I am not quite sure what I want to do in the future, I do know that I am going to college. I’ve been accepted into Monmouth college and I am possibly going into business. I like writing so if I don’t major in business then I might try creative writing. But no matter what happens, I am open to anything.
