Hello,

my name is Natalie Nicole Auld. I am a senior at Conroe high school.

After graduating I want to further my education at Sam Houston State University working towards my Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies with a certification in EC-six Generalist. Because I want to study early childhood education, and SHSU has a highly ranked College of Education, Sam Houston is the perfect college for me to attend.

Throughout my four years at Conroe High I have had the opportunity of being involved in different activities including, the Flare staff, and the Volleyball team. Both activities have allowed me to find myself in different aspects.

I have been on the yearbook staff for two years. During my first year in yearbook I put a lot of effort into the Ad, Sales and Marketing staff and came back for my second and last year honored to take the position; Editor of the Sales and Marketing staff. This allowed me to oversee a staff, focus on my organization skills and I was able to use my creativity to market our book. For the duration of my time spent with the Flare staff I have also learned accountability, I was not only in charge of myself but of my staff as we were pushing to increase our book sales and ad sales. . As my last year in yearbook ends, I am blessed with the lessons I have learned during my time spent in the Flare room and I am grateful to be taking the life experiences of time management, responsibility, accountability, and commitment with me as I enter a new chapter of my life. To Whom It May Concern: This serves as a reference letter for Natalie Auld in hopes of her being accepted into Sam Houston State University. I have had the opportunity of being Natalie’s yearbook teacher and role model at Conroe High School for the last two school years. Natalie is very creative, dependable, and hard-working.

When I first met Natalie, she was a first year yearbook member, and this year she became the Marketing & Sales Editor due to her leadership skills and willingness to exceed in the organization. Over the past two years I have been able to watch her mature in a leadership position with an immense amount of responsibility by handling her marketing staff of four members.

Natalie is a great leader and she has a real passion for teaching and helping others. She is also a bright, energetic, compassionate and genuinely well-rounded individual. Her grades have been consistently above average in all of her courses, and she always strives to better herself by the dedication and quality of her work. She has a very mature attitude for her age and never ceases to amaze me with her leadership skills and dedication for excellence.

In my personal interaction with Natalie over the last two years at Conroe, I found her to be a warm compassionate person who is always focused on her goals. She is a delightful young woman with a “can do” attitude. Natalie is motivated, hardworking and excels in her academic background and leadership role in the school yearbook. I know that Natalie will be a successful college student and deserves to be accepted into the university in order to further her education.

After graduating from Conroe High school I want to further my education at Sam Houston State University working towards my Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies with a certification in EC-6 Generalist. Because I want to study early childhood education, and SHSU has a highly ranked College of Education, Sam Houston is the perfect college for me to attend.

Sam Houston State University offers many ways to get help with my studies which will help me maintain good grades throughout college. From the Writing Center to other programs available to aid student success, I know I will have the resources I need. I know I will be provided with a safe environment on and off campus by attending Sam Houston. The University has its own Police Department, along with Huntsville PD and Walker County LEOs. Knowing that all of these forces are nearby makes me confident in my safety. That is important to being a successful college student because I am willing and able to get to my classes and study spots without feeling uncertain. Only being about 30 miles from home will also benefit me as a freshman student at Sam Houston State University. Because my family is close, I won’t have the homesick feeling I would get if I chose to go to college hours away.

At this time, I am a nanny for a family that has two kids, ages six and twelve, and I babysit for a family with a baby that is four months old. The parents of these children have trusted me with their kids in many situations. I have driven the children back and forth to practices and school, and have even stayed weekends with them while their parents were out of town. I am thankful that the parents recognized my maturity and responsible behavior and have

trusted me with their children. This opportunity has given me authentic experience working with young children. I have practiced doing homework, helping the children with projects and other school activities, and have handled situations where children were very defiant. Although I know this is just a glimpse at the responsibilities I will have as a teacher, I am grateful to have this experience as just a young age because it gives me an insight and has helped to prepare me for future career as an early childhood educator.

My dream is to become a teacher so that I can encourage and influence young children to reach their full potential no matter what circumstances they come from. Throughout my twelve years in public school I have gotten to know people that do not have the privileges that I do, or have done poorly in school for reasons beyond their control. None of these factors prevented me from becoming friends with these peers, but I didn’t let their circumstances discourage me. As a teacher, I will often be a role model for my students. I will be there to support them and give them advice when needed. I hope to be an important figure in the lives of all of my students, but especially the ones that don't get support from home. I want to make a difference in their lives and give them encouragement as they are young so that they can use it and remember it as they grow up. I look forward to being a part of the education program at Sam Houston because I know I will be well trained and ready for the classroom by the time I graduate.

What will you take away from the being a part of the yearbook staff?

Being a member of the yearbook staff means more than just coming to class every day. We put forth our time and effort to make a book that our peers will enjoy, full of memories, up to date themes and current happenings. We spend our extracurricular time until sometimes six pm to meet our deadlines.

Throughout all the stressfulness and difficult situations we have endured together, we are not only just a class of students we are a prime example of commitment, hard work and dedication. Yearbook has taught me so much more than just designing pages, I have learned to manage my time more effectively, to be diligent with my work, and how to become an effective leader. Community involvement allows us to get to know our neighbors, city and county officials so that we can support one another during a time of need. It is important for our community members to volunteer their time to enhance our local parks, clean up our streets and host events for the residents of Montgomery county and surrounding areas to enjoy. If more people were involved in the community we could provide more fundraising opportunities for everyone. The goal is to have our local community be a welcoming place for families to enjoy and feel safe.

This year I was just a member on the ads/ marketing/sales staff so I did not get to design a whole bunch. My main job this year was to market our book sales and ad sales.
