Personal STatement: I am a senior at Conroe High School taking dual credit classes at CHS, as well as, the Lone Star College Montgomery Campus. As of right now I am a Conroe High School Golden Girl, and in yearbook as a Sports Editor. I plan to pursue a degree that will allow me to teach at the high school level and hope to come back to teach in the Conroe area upon completion of my degree plan.
Resume: Summary: I am a high school senior and will be graduating in 2016. I am a very diligent and hard working student at Conroe High School taking dual credit classes at CHS, as well as, the Lone Star College Montgomery Campus. Goals:
To obtain scholarships to help fund my education so that I can become a high school teacher. Pursuing a degree in education is important to me as I hope to inspire, motivate, and be a role model to future teenagers while enjoying the fulfillment it brings to give back to the community as someone who has the ability to shape and impact a young person’s life in a positive manner.
College Plan: To obtain my Associates of Arts Degree and continue my studies toward a Bachelors of Arts Degree. I hope to have the opportunity to teach History for Conroe ISD at the high school level upon completion of my degree plan. Financial Assistance/Scholarship: This scholarship would be very helpful to me because I am the daughter of a single mother who does not have the funds to help me pay for college. My father has never helped with child support and is not actively involved in my life. In addition, although my mother attended some college, I will be the first to pursue and complete a degree plan in my immediate family. I have worked hard during high school to take advantage of as many dual credit classes as possible including taking classes at the Lone Star College Montgomery Campus to help me not only get ahead but to minimize my cost financially. Experience: School & Work • Lone Star College – part-time student, (Fall 2014 to present: 18 hrs.) Scholarship Essays: Brittney Jarvis Line of Gold Essay -What Does Golden Girls Mean to Me and Why Should I Receive a Scholarship Throughout my four years at Conroe High School, being in the Golden Girl organization has made me into the bright young lady I am today. It has taught me to be responsible, have morals, and what it feels like to be part of a true sisterhood that will impact me for the rest of my life. I am truly thankful for the opportunity I was given to be part of this wonderful team. Golden Girls has helped me strive to become a better version of myself, whether it is with school work or outside of school. Being a part of the “Pride of Conroe High” was always a big dream of mine since I was in the sixth grade. I went to my first Jr. Golden Girl activity and loved how it felt to walk onto the field for the first time and from that point forward I strived to be just like my big sister at Jr. Golden Girls (Victoria Woods). With additional experience in the Rangerettes, I later stopped being home schooled to become a Peet Dancing Doll. Without the Golden Girls organization, not only would I be stuck in my room from boredom, but I wouldn’t have come to know who I am today or who I could become. From the beginning of high school, Golden Girls has helped me break out of my shell. It brought me comfort on my very first day of school and will continue to do so until my last day of my senior year. I could not imagine the past four years of my life not being a Conroe High School Golden Girl; it is my second family, and the girls I have met through the organization will be in my life for years to come. I’m with Golden Girls more than I am at home so I can undoubtedly say the team is close enough to be family. With all the blood, sweat, tears, hard work, and dedication I have put into this team I feel as though I am an eligible candidate for the Line of Gold Scholarship. I have put forth the extra mile not only in Golden Girls but also in my school work. By the time I graduate highschool I will already have 27 hours in college credits, and will also be taking another class in the summer so I will be a sophomore by the time I actually start college. I plan to major in History and minor in Education and upon completion of my degree I plan to come back to the Conroe area to teach at the high school level. To finish my basics I will be enrolled in Lone Star Community College (to get an Associates of Arts Degree) then transfer to Texas A&M Corpus Christi to get my Bachelor of Arts. The reason I am applying for this scholarship is because I have no means having a one person income with my mother being a single parent and with my father not being involved with my life and never having paid any child support. I do try to help by working part-time to help my mom with my expenses while managing my other responsibilities. This puts a financial strain on my ability to further my education before even setting foot on college grounds. Since the cost of tuition and housing is very high, every little scholarship that I could receive will help and be greatly appreciated. If awarded a Line of Gold Scholarship, it would help aid in my education needed to get me closer to becoming the teacher I wish to be. Why do you think higher education is necessary? These days, a high school diploma, although important, seems not to be enough according to many. Most stable career paths and fields now require at least some form of higher education whether it be an associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s, or doctorates even. My aspiration is to graduate college with a Bachelor of Arts in History to become a teacher. In order to do this, I would first need to test myself and prove my own credibility by expanding my own knowledge and experience. I would not have the knowledge to teach and shape young minds if I, myself, barely have the same credentials as my students nor would I have their respect. A higher education will help me achieve this, not only for myself, but for the success of my future students.

Dear Trustees of the Conroe ISD Education Foundation: Pursuing an career in education is important because… Financial assistance is necessary to help students, like myself, to finance their education in college. Receiving scholarships, grants, and student loans will help reduce the financial burden it gives and provide help for me to further my education. As one of the precipitance applying for the “Conroe ISD Education Foundation” scholarship I am grateful to have earned this opportunity this award will provide me if I am awarded any. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the scholarship you give to people less fortunate willing to continue their education past a high school diploma. As someone from a less fortunate family having the opportunity to possibly receive a scholarship for education would be astonishing especially since I will be the first in my family to go further than a high school education.

Friday night lights shine onto the field. “Beeeeeepppp!” The play clock time expired and it was finally time for the halftime performance. As the band finished their last set, the Gigis rushed into their spots as it was almost time to perform their infamous kick routine. Being representatives of the Golden Girl organization gave each girl a sense of confidence. “Knowing that I can perform in front of the student body gives me the confidence to do other activities,” Abbie Johnson said. Since they spent so much time together, they drew closer to one another and were able to share a lot of experiences. “I have made memories with these girls that will last a lifetime,” Achante Doucette said. Not only did they perform before football crowds, but in front of pep rally crowds as well. The team’s mixture of juniors and seniors enabled them to give their best because it was going to be their final years. “I naturally get super excited stepping out before I perform, but honestly, it makes me kind of sad to see it all starting to end,” Julia Meyer said. Once football season was over, the hard work wasn’t over. They practiced regularly and got prepared for contest season. Being a part of this organization allowed them to enjoy their last years. While representing the school they hoped that the next Gigis in line will do just the same.

As the Golden Girls prepared to hit the final position of the “Bully“ military routine, the girls were all smiles knowing that the 46th year tradition was stronger than ever. Although the audience never saw all the hard work and sweat that went into preparing for the opening season dance, each Golden Girl poured their heart and soul into every move. Before girls linked arms to hear Director Amanda Bond make her speech, it hit some of them that it was their “first last.” “It’s bittersweet,” Abbagayle Dresslar said. “I will miss performing under those lights with my teammates, but I know I’m moving on to better things in life.” Tears of sadness and excitement ran down the seniors faces. The passion the girls had for their team was unbelievable. “Dancing underneath the lights with an amazing group of girls is a great feeling,” Erin Gregg said. The directors were always happy to see their performance come together under the Friday night lights.
Work Experiance: Payless: I worked at Payless for a summer job (2015 summer). There I was a Part Time Sales Associate; at the store I worked the cash register, helped customers pick out shoes, organized back stoke, and cleaned the store to make sure everything looked neat. Maurices: I have recently started working at Maurices (Jan. 2016). At the store I am a Part Time Sales Associtate; there I clean, work the “cash wrap” (register), bond & help “Liv” (customers), and make sure everyone who walks in the door leaves with a smile on their face. We also do “First 15’s” where we try on the new product so when Liv ask how something fits or feels we know what exactly to say to them (myself shown in photo).

Future Goals: When I gradutate high school, my future goals are to go to Lone Star Community College to get an Associates of Arts degree in History then to transfer to Texas A&M Corpus Christi to get a Bachelors of Arts in History. With my degree I plan to Major in History and Minor in Educations so I can teach in the secondary field (High School/Jr. High). I will only have to attend Lone Star for one year because I will already have 27 hours in college credit due to me taking multiple dual credit classes. Throughout my childhood, many of my peers would ask the infamous question: “What would you like to be when you grow up?” Growing up, you would think one would say “A doctor,” or an “Astronaut,” but as for me mine was always “a teacher.” I was unsure when I settled on this profession but I have stuck with it through all my years of growing up. Even to this day I will never not want to be a teacher. I have always admired how a teacher was willing to put all of their time into helping a student learn and become a marvelous human being. From that day forward I knew I would want to do the same for someone. Helping others is something I always have done throughout my years of high school and to be able to do that for my career would be even better. With all the help of my peers I will graduate at the top 17% of my high school with a 3.6 GPA and with all the honors courses my high school provided for me I will graduate with 27 hours in college; making me close to a sophomore in college. Goals I want to accomplish as an educator would be to help students be able to get a higher education and not only learn the material, but to inspire them to love learning.
