Mentorship Guide
Your Guide to Your Senior Mentorship

Mentorship (Work Based Learning)
Purpose
Student mentorship is a required part of senior year at Communications High School. The mentorship program was formulated with the intent of providing a collaborative learning experience and research project for the student. Through this program, the seniors of Communications High School are given the opportunity to work on communications-related projects and activities affiliated with a business in Monmouth County, or other areas within the state. Now we also offer mentorship to be either hybrid or virtual so that you can participate with a comany that may be located futher away.
CHANGES to Mentorship for 2025-2026 School Year
Mentorship is now 1 Full Day a Week Runs for a Semester
You are not limited to Monmouth County
Some mentorships sites will allow more than 1 senior No Mentorship Class
There will be weekly logs submitted each Wednesday by 11:59 AM
We will allow Virtual/Hybrid Mentorships
We do not COI in advance (Certificate of Insurance) CTE teachers will be conducting site visits
Mentorship THE WHY
The student mentorship program places a senior in a business setting for a semester period. Students are responsible to report to their mentorship sites (or virtual) for a full day on Wednesday for at least nine hours a day or time frame that aligns with the regular school day.
The mentorship is meant to be a collaborative involvement in which the student and mentor will work toward stated goals. Because the mentor will be providing practical knowledge and experience, it is important that the student be guided carefully, but at the same time be given responsibility and some independence. In some cases, the student may work as a member of a team or group. In other cases, the student may work in partnership with his/her mentor. The collaborative arrangement will be dependent on the needs of the mentor and the student.
Our goals is to get more understanding of careers and skills that are needed in the areas of Communications based CTE programs.
Additional Mentorship
Responsibilities
A mentor will: assist the student in organizing the project/goals; advise and guide the student as he/she progresses through the project; sign a weekly time sheet to indicate that the student hascompleted the required hours once the mentorship begins.
The student will be supervised by a CHS Mentorship Teacher who will also act as liaison between the mentor and the school. Mentors should contact the CHS Coordinator with any questions orconcerns.
Each student is expected to develop, write, and produce his/her presentation and selfevaluation.
The student is expected to accept responsibility for his/her behavior, punctuality, and logs.
The student is expected to demonstrate knowledge of and sensitivity to cultural differences in the the workplace and in the community.
Each student, in conjunction with the mentor, must complete a contract form. All parties (student, parents, mentorship coordinator, and mentor) will sign the senior mentorship contract agreement).
Attendance and punctuality are important. The student will work a total of approximately nine hours per week. A student may not be paid for his/her project work.
The student will keep a log and submit in Google Classroom at the end of each Mentorship Wednesday. Assigned CTE teacher will check logs every Thursday.
The student will also write a final evaluation of the project and produce a multimedia presentation. These materials are not to be worked on during mentorship hours.
The student is bound by a carefully delineated set of guidelines. Failure of the student to comply with rhese guidelines can jeopardize successful completion of the project and the student’s grade.
Transportation to and from the mentorship site is the responsibility of the student/parents.
Additional help with scheduling a carpool/ride share with another student must go through and be approved by the building administrator.
