FINAL GARMENTS
The 1960s - Design Brief
I was required to design a line up of four outerwear garments inspired by the 1960s and out of those I was supposed to select one to manufacture using fabric chosen from the collection provided by Holland and Sherry. My final design chosen for manufacture was also required to have included one of three pattern cutting methods: zero waste, exploding the silhouette or subtraction pattern cutting in which I chose zero waste as it worked well with my final design. Before considering any design aspects I had to do some thorough research on the era itself in order to be able to put into consideration any factors which may be viable during the process. The 1960s was an era which consisted of many well- known trends that still stand today however it did consist of not-so-great political factors.
A key factor of my final design was that it can be worn/ styled in different ways according to each individual and the occasion, this can therefore make it to be considered a somewhat sustainable garment along with the zero- waste pattern cutting element.
This design is targeted for high end customers between the age of 23- 45 and is intended to achieve an elegant yet sophisticated statement look. .
