Robert Fowler Memorial Run

On Saturday, March 22nd, there was a Memorial Run for Robert Fowler at Red’s Watering Hole in Gaffney, SC. I didn’t know Robert, but I heard that he was a great guy who loved animals and riding his bike. He had a lot of friends, so this event should be large.

I arrived at Red’s at 11am for the registration. The run would start at noon. I always like to get to the event early so I can greet the bikers as they roll in. It’s always a fun time seeing old friends again.

I talked to “Squid” for a while, and then saw that a group of the Armored Saints Motorcycle Ministry parked across the street. I walked over to talk with “Pops”. He’s always good for a laugh or two. This time he rode in with his wife, “Moms”. We all had a very pleasant conversation. I brought “Pops” an extra helmet – a full-face modular Nolan helmet I bought about 10 years ago. I never could get comfortable in it. He liked it and bought it from me.

As I was walking around, I met a man who was on his bike getting ready to leave. I asked him where he was going and he said that he had to go somewhere for work. His crew needed him for a while. I wished him well and hoped that he would get back in time to go on the run. He did just make it back before the prayer.

As it got close to noon, many bikes were parked all around Red’s – about 100 bikes came for the event.

Then it came time for the pre-ride meeting and prayer. The stops were written on the score sheet and then discussed. The 1st stop was at Red’s in Gaffney, SC; the 2nd stop was at the Palmetto Seafood in York, SC; the 3rd stop was at Wingz Sports Pub in Union, SC; the 4th stop was at The Hideout in Spartanburg; the 5th and final stop was back to Red’s in Gaffney, SC. There was no large group going to the stops in order. Participants could go to any of the stops in any order to roll the dice and end back at Red’s.

Then “Pops” said the prayer. He got emotional because Robert was a close friend of his. He knew that one day they would be together again in heaven. Robert just got there first!

After the “Amen”, everybody went to their bikes and left with a roar. They went in different directions instead of one large group. I’m sure that it worked out better with the traffic on a Saturday afternoon.

I left and went home to take Cindy out for a nice lunch. It’s always good to spend time with friends, remembering a friend who is no longer with us.

Just Show Up

I wish I could take credit for the subject matter of this devotion, but I cannot. That recognition goes to my brother Stephen Lawson who presented this at one of our recent Bikers for Christ meetings.

On March 23rd, 2025, the 17th Annual Greenwood Blessing of the Bikes was held at First Mt Moriah Baptist Church in Greenwood, SC.

Almost 700 motorcycles, equating to roughly 1200 people, showed up for free food, music from a live band, water and soft drinks, bibles, but mostly to be prayed over for a safe riding season. The ballfield was full, a good time was had by all, and God was glorified.

After a few announcements and a quick devotional message, people started praying for bikers. Folks were pulling me and other BFC members from one end of the field to the other asking for prayer and talking to us about their personal struggles. Heads were bowed and eyes closed as hundreds of petitions and praises were raised up to God.

The first year of the Blessing of the Bikes, there were less than a hundred riders who showed up, but we who had stepped out on faith were ecstatic. We were praising God for such an awesome turnout! That first year, never in our wildest dreams, did Jay Pruitt, John Pruitt, Randy Day or I anticipate how much this event would grow over these past 17 years.

We have been allowed to pray with people on the side of the road, in clubhouses, at motorcycle events, and in people's homes. We have visited the sick, the hurting, and those with spiritual needs.

We have also been entrusted with a fallen biker fund, and over the last decade we have given tens of thousands of dollars to people who have been injured in motorcycle accidents. We visit hospitals and homes where injured and spiritually hurting people need prayer and assistance.

We are so blessed to be trusted by the motorcycling community to offer spiritual and physical care where it is needed. These people are our family, and we love them more than anyone can imagine.

How did this all start?

One day, we just showed up.

Maybe it was on a ride, or at a clubhouse, or on the scene of a motorcycle wreck, we saw a need, and one of us was just there to help. It’s amazing how things have grown from there.

When we look at scripture, we see people flocking to Jesus wherever he went.

He was walking down the street one day and a woman who touched his clothes was healed of a long-time illness. He preached in a field one day and 5000 hungry people were fed. He went to a community well one day for a drink of water and helped a woman who was struggling with her lifestyle. Jesus didn’t sit around and wait for people to come to him, He searched and found needs to meet, met those needs, and people’s lives were changed forever.

Jesus just showed up…

The Bible tells us that as Christians, we are the light of the world and darkness has no power over light. Just like Jesus, we have the power

to change people’s lives for the better if we will just take the opportunity to do so.

When it’s raining and you don’t want to go the benefit ride, when it’s cold and you may want to stay in the heat instead of freezing at a toy run, when a someone asks you for help and you’re afraid it will take up too much of your time, what would Jesus do?

He would show up.

We are called to do the same.

Just show up, shine that light, find a need to meet, and meet that need.

I guarantee as you bless others, you will be blessed tenfold!

Matthew 5:14-16 (NIV) “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Galatians 6:10 (NIV) Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.

Ride on and stay safe, Dennis Reynolds

D r . DILLIGAF

Dear Dr. Dilligaf,

I'm getting mixed opinions on this so I'm bringing it to the good doc. Should you plug a bike tire? The hole is not on the sidewall and it's a fairly new tire. Busted Flat in Kershaw SC

Dear Busted Flat,

Please send one of them selfies so we can just use your picture and stop saying things like: Not the brightest bulb or not the sharpest knife or any other cliche to describe what dumb is. I’m guessing you aren’t good at Math either but, here goes. Four tires on a car + one plug fails = side of the road. Two tires on a bike + one plug fails = If you live, please send new selfies of the road rash on your face to go with that first one you sent. PS stay in the back of the pack so nobody else gets hurt.

Dr. Dilligaf,

So I see you're back. You went on a beer run that lasted 8 yrs? Damit man that's some long strange trip. Speaking of... Wondering what your take is on weed. I have a tenant who always pays on time, rides his bike, I ride. How he came to be I met him at Quaker S&L bike nights. New in town kid looking for a place to rent, he came here for his job. Doc everytime I talk to this kid he smells like weed. I mean evey single time. It's a no smoking unit but that usually means cigerettes. I'm stuck between a blunt and a bong here brother. Should he stay or should he go? My only issue, it's illegal in this state. I'm not 100% sure he's legal in the States!  Up in Smoke, Gaffney SC

Up in Smoke,

Thanks for noticing my absence it’s been a wild ride. A hippie that pays rent on time? Sounds like you got blessed to me. Cool music, pretty chill, I mean once you get over the smell of colitis and patchouli you should have it whipped. I don’t care what you put in your pipe and what’s legal or illegal in what state or county and from what dispensary is more confusing

than figuring out who farted in a fan factory. I’d check your renters agreement and make sure that legal thing stays with the hippie's lawyer.

Dear Dr. Dilligaf, I'm asking a few political questions if ok. What make's Trump 'The Man", I personal love him. What makes judges think they can overrule the president? (He's kinda the boss right). I wasn't old enough to vote last time but he got my vote this time. What should be my first bike? 5'4"110. I was thinking how cute I would look on a ninja style, but my old biker uncle said I'd sound like a sewing machine. Huh??? Just because you can hear him coming and going from a mile away. Soon to be Rider, Garden City, SC

Soon to be Rider, Getting the facts and understanding politics is harder now than ever. I’ll just give you the same advice my momma gave me once. Figure out what’s best for your family and then pick who you think will be best at helping you. Due to election results, many people think Trump  will be better at it than anyone else right now. Try to remember that loud people and good salesmen are everywhere. Get a bike you can plant your feet firmly on the ground without tippie toeing and find a place to ride without much traffic until you get comfortable and confident enough to flip people off with one hand while grabbing the brakes with the other one because you’ll be doing that a lot. Then, go for a long ride and figure out if your an elephant or a donkey.

best? Thumb loves his 1800 rice (something) he's put several grand in it trying to make it sound like a Harley. Hard head we all tried to tell him. So he's arguing for a Yamaha. I myself love the thump of a shovel, even if you need to be a motorhead to ride one these days nobody works on them. Jaybo says EVO everybody hates them butt he has had nothing but good luck, so he's arguing evo. Puke's on an old ironhead sporty he's ridden into the ground and out again several times it's raggedy AF, I'd puke to if I had to ride that death trap. Parts counter girl said her great granddad rode an Indian Chief and said there would never be a bike to top it, so she's basically clueless but we let her vote. What say you?

Sam, Marion, SC

Sam, The one that’s under you is the best one. If you think there’s one better then go get it and find it if you were right. I've owned some variation of every bike you listed. Some of them are good investments, some should be in a museum, some under the museum. I’ve had bikes I enjoyed the challenge of keeping running and others for the fact that I didn’t have to do anything to keep them running. In the end it’s about what puts you in the wind and makes you smile before they’re all electric and we have to download an app to make it sound like it’s running.

Do NOT read if easily offended!

Got Questions?

Dear Doc, Sitting around the bike shop having a 5 way discussion on motors. Who did it

3rd Annual Ride for the Soul

On March 22nd we held the 3rd Annual Ride for the Soul and it was a success. Thank you Joseph Dental Associates for your contribution and being our sponsor this year.

All I can say is that the biker community is amazing set of people that have huge hearts. This year's amazing funds raised shows the pure driving force of people who love giving back. We had a little over 50 bikes traveling the roughly 100 mile trip around Kershaw County. I do not have a tally on the estimated value of the item donations but monetary funds that went directly to Food for the Soul (homeless shelter) is $1,185. There's nothing better than a day of riding around the countryside, on two wheels, for good cause.

This day would not have been a success without the help of many friends. My husband, Patrick and I appreciate all of you so deeply. Thank you Katharine, Pete, Rebecca, Sherry, April, and Michael for all the help and being such superstars.

Thank you to our location sponsors: Coates Billiards, BullsEye Bar, Saints and Sinners and especially Beavers Den at Beaver Creek bar and grille for being our start and our finish line. They are always the most amazing location hub.

We can't wait till next March to see everyone again. As always, it's on, rain or shine.

Your Ride Hosts. Brandy and Patrick Gunter #rideforthesoul
