The Seasons of our Sessions:

As we head into the later part of the summer, we will be heading into the start of getting our pencils sharpened and paper ready. Although ABATE has always worked to defend and maintain our liberties as bikers, that cannot be done without each of us actively being involved with our representatives. That includes Federal, State and Local representatives.

Who is YOUR representative?

That’s a great question and even if you do know who it is do you really know them. I have personally worked on this as my #1 priority since I joined ABATE some years ago. It doesn’t matter what the bill is if you can’t talk to your representative they can and should represent you.

The How:

If you go to the South Carolina Legislature Website at www.scstatehouse.gov you will see a spot in the bottom left-hand corner where you can type in your information to find your legislatures just by putting in your address. Here is what I get, and I will explain why this is important. You see with just a little typing and a click you can get to each one of your state or federal representatives and let them know how you feel on our issues. That doesn’t mean that they will reply, answer, or even work on your issues but it does mean you have a way.

The rest takes a lot of time and patience to build a relationship of trust, which will help us work on issues that concern our liberties.

The Homework:

So now that you have some tools to use let’s go out and start applying them and see what results we get. Next month I am going to write about three different individuals and their work to get their representatives in the House to cosponsor on the hands-free bill. The results may surprise you or at least the stories will.

If you want to have the most current information make sure you are part of the Legislative Alerts email list. Just send me an email stating you want to be added.
