“Dedicated To Freedom Of The Road”: We all get the patch when we join ABATE and these words are written on top. Actually every ABATE organization in the United Sates that has this patch for their membership has these words. As you know this year we have started pushing for more Freedom of the Road. When we say freedom, we are talking about being free to ride legally on our roads and not have to worry about fines, or worse, imprisonment. There is also a hidden freedom that is more a matter of life and death, and that is freedom to ride without another person violating your lane and causing injury, or in many cases death. Automobiles have increasingly become injury proof and many drivers act like that. We on the other hand are not and have to watch for those distracted drivers, get better training and in many cases just give up riding all together because we are tired of all those close calls. Over the next several years we will push for stronger laws and victim advocacy much like M.A. D. D. has done for people that drink and drive. There are a lot of programs they have been successful that not only have prevented more collisions involving alcohol, but also strong programs for the ones that are left behind. I cannot stress enough the open door you have, all you need to do is to invite us to come to your chapter. We still have the rest of this year to break some bread and meet. All I need is the invite!
