HOLY GOSPEL OCTOBER - 2026
TWENTY-EIGHTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME OCTOBER 11, 2026 “How is it that you came in here without a wedding garment?” Today's parable contains Christological and sacramental overtones; it takes its full meaning in the Eucharistic celebration. In a meaningful depiction of what salvation will be like at the end of time, Jesus teaches us a parable that powerfully speaks about our response to God's repeated offers of love. The banquet is a reference to the Eucharist, in it, the garment is suggestive of baptism, and Jesus is the Son for whom the banquet is offered. It is God's desire that we all participate in the salvific banquet that He offers to humanity. We can either dismiss or refuse this invitation, preferring instead our own priorities and interests, and not taking seriously the value of what God is offering. This is not an invitation to come as we are. God loves us too much that He will not leave us unchanged. God wants us as He made us to be, and never as the mess we have made of ourselves. Our parable is about grace received through an open invitation, but grace does not come as a bargain. It requires our response to put on the garment of salvation. The Church, blessed with the foretaste of the heavenly banquet, must go all the way to the crossroads, to invite all people, the bad and the good alike, to the wedding feast of the Lord. Each one of us has the duty to act and behave in such a way that leads others to become aware of the invitation to the Lord's meal, and that many are moved to join us when they see Christians celebrating. It is then that we will be dressed in the right garment, the garment of love. Because even with all our human weaknesses, we strive for the perfect love. Blessings, Fr. Hector

El evangelio describe hoy un banquete con rasgos Cristológicos y sacramentales que alcanza su perfección en la celebración de la Eucaristía. En una descripción maravillosa de cómo será al final de los tiempos, Jesús nos enseña hoy una parábola que habla fuerte acerca de cómo respondemos a sus repetidas ofertas de amor. Para nosotros los gentiles, la parábola es una generosa invitación. El banquete se refiere a la Eucaristía, y en él, el traje de fiesta sugiere el bautismo, y Jesús es el hijo por quien el banquete es ofrecido.

Claramente es el deseo divino de que todos participemos del banquete que es ofrecido por nosotros. Es esta una invitación que podemos rehuir o rechazar, prefiriendo nuestras prioridades o intereses, sin jamás valorar lo que se nos está ofreciendo. Pero esta no es una invitación a venir como estamos, Dios nos ama tanto que quiere vernos perfectos, tal como Él nos hizo, y no con los harapos en los cuales muchas veces nos convertimos.
Thiên Chúa mong muốn cho tất cả chúng ta tham dự vào bàn tiệc cứu rỗi mà Ngài dành cho nhân loại. Chúng ta có thể bỏ qua hoặc từ chối lời mời này, thay vào đó là ưa thích những ưu tiên và lợi ích của riêng mình, và không coi trọng giá trị của những gì Thiên Chúa ban cho. La parábola habla de la gracia recibida a través de una invitación, pero la gracia no es gratis, requiere una respuesta, el estar dispuestos a ponernos el traje de fiesta. La Iglesia, en la cual Jesús deposito la celebración de este banquete, deberá ir a los caminos e invitar a buenos y malos por igual a disfrutar del banquete del Señor. Cada persona tiene el deber de comportarse de tal forma que sus acciones motiven a sus semejantes a acercarse a la Eucaristía, y a unirse a la Iglesia c u a n d o d e s c u b re n l o q u e l o s c r i s t i a n o s celebramos. Será entonces que estaremos vestidos con el traje de fiesta, el traje del amor, porque a pesar de todas nuestras debilidades, siempre viviremos anhelando el amor verdadero.
Dụ ngôn nói về ân sủng nhận được qua một lời mời, nhưng ân sủng không phải như một sự mặc cả. Nó đòi hỏi sự đáp ứng của chúng ta để khoác lên mình tấm áo cứu rỗi. Giáo Hội, được chúc phúc cho sự nếm trước bữa tiệc nước trời, phải đi khắp mọi nẻo đường, để mời tất cả mọi người, người xấu cũng như kẻ tốt, đến tiệc cưới của Thiên Chúa. OUTREACH Sowing Seeds of Mercy $7,000,000 Jesus modeled our call to meet people where they are, even going outside the Church's walls. We therefore strive to champion the common good of society and lift the human dignity of each person. This campaign aims to empower every parish, school, and ministry to encourage greater participation in acts of charity, advocacy, justice, and evangelization, thereby highlighting the human dignity of every person and expanding our evangelization efforts. FORMATION Sowing Seeds of Wisdom $15,750,000 This campaign will support Catholic education, catechesis, and faith-building across all ages, digital tools, and retreats to spiritually nourish, strengthen, and accompany people in every season of life. The diocese plans to make a significant investment in the priority area of formation during the initial phase of implementing the Pastoral Plan.
This campaign will focus on creating spaces and opportunities where young people can build a relationship with Christ and each other, find belonging, and embrace God's call in their lives. FAMILY MINISTRY Sowing Seeds of Love $3,500,000 Families are the heartbeat of our communities and our Church because they are the first place most of us learn to p r a y, l o v e , a n d f o r g i v e . To d a y ' s f a m i l i e s f a c e unprecedented cultural, economic, and spiritual pressures that hinder their participation in the Church. Supporting our Catholic families is vital to spiritual renewal. This campaign seeks to accompany families at every stage, embracing them in their uniqueness and diverse needs. STRUCTURAL RENEWAL Sowing Seeds of Sustainability $20,700,000 Behind every vibrant parish, school, and ministry is a web of complex structures and dedicated and faith-filled people, both volunteer and staff . However, many parishes and schools lack the necessary resources for the Church to sustainably minister to its parishioners as Santa Clara County's population and demographics have changed. It has become clear that the diocese must reimagine the structure of our parishes and schools to better support the vital goal of spiritual renewal outlined in our Pastoral Plan. While we have not concluded yet on what a renewed local structure will look like, this renewal may mean that parishes will collaborate more closely, share resources, or adapt their methods of serving their communities to foster greater vitality and sustainability

La Iglesia debe acompañarlos, con autenticidad y compasión, reconociendo que no solo son el futuro, sino también una parte vital de la Iglesia actual. Esta campaña se centrará en crear espacios y oportunidades en los que los jóvenes puedan construir una relación con Cristo y entre ellos, encontrar un sentido de pertenencia y acoger la llamada de Dios en sus vidas. RENOVACIÓN ESTRUCTURAL Sembrando las Semillas de Sostenibilidad $20,700,000 Detrás de cada parroquia, escuela y ministerio dinámico hay una red de estructuras complejas y personas dedicadas y llenas de fe, tanto voluntarios como personal. Sin embargo, muchas parroquias y escuelas carecen de los recursos necesarios para que la Iglesia pueda atender de manera sostenible a sus feligreses, ya que la población y la demografía del condado de Santa Clara han cambiado.
