THE BAPTISM OF THE LORD JANUARY 11, 2026
This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.
With the feast of the Baptism of the Lord, the universal Church closes today the liturgical season of Christmas-Epiphany. For us human beings, water is a universal reality. Through the centuries, water has been present as an unavoidable need for any culture. Any human being is able to recognize its importance in our daily routines. In the Jewish tradition, a basic baptismal rite had been present from antiquity. Its meaning was limited to a cleansing and purification rite for the forgiveness of sins, where the same person performing the rite was in charge of a self-purification routine. As a matter of fact, the roots of our modern baptism word convey the meaning of: purification or cleansing rite. John the Baptist developed a broader baptismal rite by incorporating the elements of conversion and repentance. Based on the writings from the prophet Isaiah, John invited the Jewish people to “prepare the way of the Lord, to make straight His paths.” In addition, there was another fundamental element in John's rite when compared to all the previous ones. In John's one, it was not the same person the one who performed the rite; It was John, or one of his disciples, the ones who celebrated the baptismal rite. And John's proposal awoke a huge wave of acceptance among the Israelites, to the point that many of them believed that John was the Messiah. On Christmas day, Jesus was born and became flesh; in these modern days, Jesus is sacramentally reborn. At the Jordan, baptism represented a change for Jesus' life; from then on, Jesus began His public life. At the manger, Mary embraced Him with all her heart; today, while reborn at baptism, the almighty God embraced Him in His infinite love when the loud voice came from heaven proclaiming: This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased, listen to Him.” At Nazareth, His mother holds Him in her arms, while the magi adored Him.” Today, at the Jordan river, His Father reveals to the world His Son's glory, and presents Him to be adored by all people around the whole earth.

Con la fiesta del bautismo del Señor culminan hoy en la Iglesia las celebraciones de Navidad y Epifanía. El agua es un símbolo universal para nosotros los seres humanos. A través del tiempo, el agua ha estado necesariamente presente en todas las culturas, cualquier ser humano la reconoce y sabe que es parte indispensable para muchas de nuestras experiencias y necesidades diarias. Un rito similar al bautismo había sido utilizado desde tiempos muy antiguos por el pueblo de Israel. Su sentido estaba limitado a un ritual de limpieza y purificación por los pecados cometidos en donde la misma persona era la que se purificaba a sí misma. De hecho, la palabra bautismo significa baño de purificación, o de limpieza.
Với ngày Lễ Chúa chịu phép rửa hôm nay, Giáo hội hoàn vũ kết thúc phụng vụ mùa Giáng Sinh. Đối với con người chúng ta, nước là một thực tại phổ quát. Qua nhiều thế kỷ, nước đã là nhu cầu không thể thiếu đối với bất kỳ nền văn hóa nào. Bất kỳ người nào cũng có thể nhận ra tầm quan trọng của nước trong cuộc sống hàng ngày. Theo truyền thống Do Thái, một nghi thức thanh tẩy căn bản đã có từ thời cổ đại. Ý nghĩa của nó được giới hạn trong một nghi thức thanh tẩy và nghi thức nầy để tha thứ tội lỗi, trong đó người được rửa tội tự thanh tẩy mình. Trong thực tế, nguồn gốc của từ rửa tội ngày nay cho thấy ý nghĩa của: nghi thức thanh tẩy hoặc làm sạch.
Juan el Bautista presentaba un bautismo donde incorporaba los elementos de conversión y arrepentimiento. Basado en los textos del profeta Isaías, Juan invitaba al pueblo de Israel a preparar el camino del Señor, a construir una calzada para Dios. Otra diferencia importante del bautismo de Juan con los ritos hasta entonces existentes consistía en que no era la misma persona la que se purificaba a sí misma; era el mismo Juan, o sus discípulos, quienes realizaban el bautizo. El rito provocaría gran agitación entre el pueblo judío, a tal grado que muchos creyeron que Juan era el Mesías. En navidad, Jesús nació y se hizo hombre; el día de hoy, Jesús renace, pero ahora sacramentalmente. El bautismo marca el inicio de una nueva etapa en su vida, a partir de hoy Jesús inicia su vida pública. El día de Navidad, María su madre lo abrazó junto a su corazón, el día de hoy, al renacer por el bautismo el Padre celestial lo abraza en su infinito amor cuando su voz que proviene de lo alto dice: “este es mi hijo muy amado en quien me complazco, escúchenlo.” En Nazaret, la madre sostiene al niño y los reyes magos lo adoran. El día de hoy, en el Jordán, el Padre revela al mundo la gloria de su Hijo, para que sea adorado por todos los pueblos de la tierra. Bendiciones Fr Hector
Thánh Gioan Tẩy Giả đã lập ra một nghi thức rửa tội bằng cách kết hợp hai yếu tố, thống hối và ăn năn. Dựa trên các bài viết từ tiên tri Isaia, thánh Gioan đã kêu gọi dân Do Thái "chuẩn bị con đường của Chúa, để dọn thẳng đường của Ngài".
