FIRST SUNDAY OF LENT FEBRUARY 22, 2026 Command that these stones become loaves of bread.
In today's Gospel, at the beginning of the Lenten season, St. Mathew tells us how after His baptism in Jordan, Jesus was taken into the desert. Right there, during forty days and forty nights, He suffered temptation. Jesus went to the desert, the place where He would find the condemned humanity, to rescue it, and to re-open the route to the place where all our sins are forgiven.
Forty days represented a period of need, testing, and toil in preparation for a relationship with God. The number forty is highly significant for the Jewish people. Forty days and forty nights lasted the rain during the flood in Noah's time; it was a sign of destruction and purification, followed by a new beginning. The prophet Elijah traveled forty days in the desert to the Horeb Mt where he found God face to face. For forty years, the Israelites were wandering in the desert before entering into the Promised Land.
Nowadays, there is a hidden danger for anybody It consists in temptations apparently inoffensive and loaded with compassion, backed with scripture references, and custom dressed as good intentions. They force people into wrong beliefs, without any respect for their capacity to discern between what is right, and what is wrong.Their real intention is never exposed until our mind is already prepared for what they really want. The invitation today is to anchor ourselves before what is truthful and eternal. Let us understand that lent is much more than only fasting and doing penance for our sins; Lent is also a preparation period to joyfully appreciate Easter. During this our Lenten season, let us begin our journey to walk back our way from desert to paradise.

En el evangelio de este primer Domingo de Cuaresma, San Mateo nos narra cómo después de su bautismo en el Jordán, Jesús es llevado al desierto Ahí, por cuarenta días y cuarenta noches, sufriría tentación. Jesús va al desierto, al lugar donde encontrara al hombre condenado para poder regresarlo al paraíso, al lugar donde sus faltas le serán perdonadas.
Cuarenta días representan un periodo de necesidad, pruebas, y lucha en preparación para una relación con Dios El numero cuarenta es altamente simbólico para el pueblo de Israel Cuarenta días y cuarenta noches tardo el diluvio en los tiempos de Noé; un signo de destrucción y purificación de todo mal, seguido por un nuevo principio, un renacer. El profeta Elías viajo cuarenta días por el desierto hacia el monte Horeb donde encontró a Dios cara a cara. Cuarenta años vagaron los Israelitas antes de entrar a la tierra prometida.

1. An increasingly secular and polarized world.

3. An insufficient number of seminarians to replace upcoming clergy retirements.
4. Declining Mass attendance, sacramental participation, and Catholic school and parish faith formation enrollment over the past ten years
a. Since 2012, the county population has increased by 5.8%, while Mass attendance has decreased by 39.8%
b. 40% decrease in parishes' K-8 faith formation participation since 2012
c. More than 2,000 available seats in our 26 Catholic elementary schools
5. Financial challenges at most parishes and several schools.

Giáo dục và đào tạo giới trẻ trở thành người tốt hơn cũng như là những Kitô hữu mẫu mực.
Tổ chức và hướng dẫn tất cả giới trẻ trong việc truyền bá Tin Mừng và tích cực tham gia vào công việc vì lợi ích xã hội thông qua các hoạt động bác ái và giúp đỡ người khác.
Phong trào sử dụng Lời Chúa trong Kinh Thánh và các giáo huấn chính thức của Giáo hội Công giáo làm nền tảng trong việc giáo dục và hướng dẫn giới trẻ trong mọi hoạt động. Đối với tất cả các em của Phong Trào Thiếu Nhi Thánh Thể, Chúa Giêsu Kitô Thánh Thể là trung tâm của cuộc sống,là nguồn mạch của đời sống tâm linh.
