IMPORTANT GUIDELINES AND PROTOCOLS TO ATTEND MASS:
DIRECTRICES Y PROTOCOLOS IMPORTANTES PARA ASISTIR A MISA
According to the Santa Clara County guidelines. Effecive Tuesday, November 17th, all indoor Masses and worship services will be moved outdoor. We will also continue to livestream Masses for those who prefer to stay at home. Please help us to keep the safety and health of all who attend Mass by observing the established safety protocols: • Bring your mask, wash your hands – No mask, no mass. • Come at least 15 minutes early. • Ushers will direct you to your seat. • Please observe 6 feet social distancing at all times. • Use your mask at all times throughout the duration of Mass. • Stay at your designated space throughout the duration of Mass. • Receive Communion in your hand, with mask on, then step aside remove your mask and use your free hand to place the Host in your mouth and put your mask back on. • Collection baskets will not be passed but placed at entrance and exit for your offertory. • Please do not stay after mass to allow us to disinfect all chairs, and other contact points before the next mass.

8. Holy Gospel Twenty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time
“Who do people say I am?”
In today’s gospel passage, St. Mark told us how Jesus questioned His disciples: “But who do you say that I am?” The same question that today He directs to us. Many of us have arrived or returned to the Catholic Church, after many years of absence, looking for a God who could protect us, a God who could free us from a difficult situation. To resolve an economic problem; to heal from a serious illness; to free our children, or our whole family, from life’s difficulties; in others words, protection against suffering, is what we have been looking for. Looking for the Lord only to resolve our anguishes and sorrows, even when they could be so hurting, is equivalent to knowing Jesus simply as the miracle worker, as one of the many exorcists of His time. Behaving according to these human conceptions, we are being like Peter in today’s gospel, acting in a dissuasive way to separate Jesus from His suffering. When we only persist in our requests for mercy, valid in themselves from our human point of view, it is the same as not understanding who Jesus is. It is like trying to argue our personal case to Jesus before Calvary. But Jesus’ true identity is only found at the foot of the cross. It is at Calvary where we need to look for Him; this is the only place where we will able to grasp the real and profound meaning of His earthly ministry. Strength that arises from weakness, triumph that develops from sacrifice, life that is reborn after defeating death, all these are what we will find as soon as we approach Christ’s cross. This is victory after the suffering. This is what the gospel teaches us today; this is what will really lead us to recognize Jesus as the Messiah. These are the real disciples, the ones who are open to leave everything behind them in order to serve Him; the ones open to sacrifice their own lives for the good of others; the ones who never refuse suffering and tiredness; the ones open to accept their own cross. The ones who walk all the way to Calvary, contemplate Christ on the cross, and cry out to the world: “Truly, this was the Son of God.”

En el evangelio de hoy, San Marcos nos relata como Jesús cuestiona a sus discípulos. “¿Y ustedes, quien dicen que soy yo?” Es esta la misma pregunta que se nos dirige a nosotros el día de hoy. Muchos de los presentes, hemos llegado o regresado a la iglesia después de muchos años de ausencia, buscando a Dios para que nos proteja, o nos libere de alguna situación difícil por la que estemos atravesando, y que para nosotros seres humanos limitados es difícil o imposible resolver. El resolver algún apuro económico, el sanar de alguna enfermedad, el liberar a nuestros hijos o a nuestras familias de los problemas de la vida, en otras palabras, protección contra el sufrimiento, es lo que muchas veces buscamos y demandamos de Dios. Dirigirnos al Señor solo para resolver nuestras penas y congojas, por mas complicadas y dolorosas que puedan ser, es conocer a Jesús solo como un hacedor de milagros, como otro de los exorcistas de su tiempo. Actuando de acuerdo a estas ideas, estamos haciendo lo que Pedro en el evangelio, actuando para disuadir a Jesús del sufrimiento. Quedarnos en las peticiones de clemencia, válidas en sí mismas desde el punto de vista humano, es no entender quien es Cristo, es dirigirnos a Jesús antes del calvario. Pero la verdadera identidad de Jesucristo se conoce solo al pie de la cruz. Es en el calvario donde debemos buscarlo, ese es el único lugar donde seremos capaces de comprender la verdadera magnitud de su ministerio. Fortaleza que brota en la debilidad, triunfo que surge del sacrificio, vida que renace después de haber vencido la muerte es lo que vamos a encontrar cuando nos aproximemos a la cruz de Cristo. Esta es la victoria después del sufrimiento, esta es la opción que el evangelio nos presenta el día de hoy y que verdaderamente nos lleva a reconocer a Jesús como el Mesías. Estos son los auténticos cristianos, los que están dispuestos a dejar todo por servirle; los que están dispuestos a dar su propia vida por los demás; los que jamás rehúyen el sufrimiento o la fatiga; los que aceptan su propia cruz. Los que suben hasta el calvario, contemplan a Cristo en el, lo acompañan en su dolor, y le gritan al mundo: “Verdaderamente este es el hijo de Dios!”

“Người ta bảo Thầy là ai?” Trong đoạn phúc âm hôm nay, Thánh Mác-cô cho chúng ta biết cách Chúa Giê-su hỏi các môn đệ của Ngài: “Nhưng người ta bảo Thầy là ai?” Câu hỏi tương tự mà hôm nay Ngài hướng đến chúng ta. Nhiều người trong chúng ta đã đến hoặc trở lại Giáo Hội Công giáo, sau nhiều năm vắng bóng, để tìm kiếm một Thiên Chúa có thể bảo vệ chúng ta, một Thiên Chúa có thể giải thoát chúng ta khỏi hoàn cảnh khó khăn. Để giải quyết một vấn đề kinh tế; để chữa lành từ một căn bệnh nghiêm trọng; để giải thoát con cái hoặc cả gia đình của chúng ta khỏi những khó khăn trong cuộc sống; nói cách khác, bảo vệ khỏi khổ đau, là những gì chúng ta đang tìm kiếm. Tìm kiếm Chúa chỉ để giải quyết nỗi thống khổ và đau thương của chúng ta, ngay cả khi chúng có thể bị tổn thương tương đương với việc biết Chúa Giê-su đơn giản là người làm phép lạ, là một trong nhiều phép trừ quỷ vào thời của Ngài. Cư xử theo những quan niệm của con người này, chúng ta đang giống như Phê-rô trong phúc âm hôm nay, hành động theo cách can ngăn để tách Chúa Giê-su ra khỏi sự đau khổ của Ngài. Chính tại đồi Canvê, nơi chúng ta cần tìm kiếm Ngài; đây là nơi duy nhất mà chúng ta có thể hiểu được ý nghĩa thực sự và sâu sắc của sứ vụ trần thế của Ngài. Sức mạnh nảy sinh từ sự yếu đuối, chiến thắng phát triển từ sự hy sinh, sự sống được tái sinh sau khi đánh bại cái chết, tất cả những điều này là những gì chúng ta sẽ tìm thấy ngay khi chúng ta đến gần thập giá của Chúa Kitô.
