im Jerry Gibson was born December 5, 1932, in Peach County, Georgia to the parentage of the late George Peter Gibson and Arminda Fluellen Gibson. There were nine children born to this union. Sim was preceded in death by his brothers, George Gibson, James Gibson, Charles Gibson and Benjamin Gibson; and sisters, Dorcas Gibson Rouse, Ollie Gibson Russell, Bertha Gibson, and Alverstine Gibson Washington. His life was one of faith, service and family. He accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior at an early age. He served faithfully as Steward, Steward President Pro Tempore and Steward Emeritus at Allen Temple AME Church of Byron, Georgia. Sim was a proud graduate of Henry A. Hunt High School in Fort Valley, Georgia. He was Captain of the football team and always said he was the smallest thing on the field but the meanest. After graduating, he served his country for 44 combined years in the United States Army and the Department of Defense at Robins Air Force Base. He also attended Fort Valley State College and received a degree in Sociology. He was united in holy matrimony to the love of his life,the former, Minnie Lee Thomas on July 9, 1960. This union was blessed with six children: Althea K. Gibson, Vanessa F. Gibson, Cyrus A. Gibson, who preceded him in death, Natalie G. Gibson, Rachel D. Gibson and Jerry D. Gibson. Sim was a true servant to his community including: • Founding Member - Men’s Professional Club of Byron • President - Byron United Serving Together ("BUST") • Member - Lion’s Club of Byron • Former Vice President - Peach County NAACP • Assistant Scoutmaster - Boy Scouts of America, Troop 152 After journeying through this world for 84 years, Mr. Gibson transitioned from work to reward, Tuesday, May 16, 2017. He is survived by: his wife, Mrs. Minnie L. Gibson; five children; eighteen grandchildren; seven greatgrandchildren; five sisters-in-law; a brother-in-law; and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives, church members, community members and friends.
