pastor christopher e. cabiness October 23, 2016 Greetings New Hope Family & Friends, As we celebrate our 129th Anniversary of our beloved New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, I am blessed to be a part of such a legacy as New Hope, for truly the song of history will sing on for years to come. It has been such an honor for me to serve as Pastor of this church family for the past 9 years. Since 1887, New Hope has truly been a testament of God’s faithfulness. With a church of many generations, our Church Family is on a quest to bring all voices of generations together in order to bring oneness. I’ve definitely tried to lead with passion in teaching the supremacy of God and His Kingdom. It is my prayer that we will continue in all things for the joy of all people through Jesus Christ, that His Kingdom--and will--will be done not only in our lives, but the lives of those in whom God is calling us to lead and serve. Today, we celebrate 129 years of “Striving in Kingdom Service” and traditions that are based on worship services designed to speak to the generations that gather, Kingdom teachings, and sustained outreach services that speak to the vision of our church; that is to lead and serve those who find themselves counted among the least, the last, and lost. We celebrate the fact that New Hope has maintained an unfailing love and passion in order to ensure that the next generation hears about the mercy and grace of God and how to demonstrate our love of God through community (common – unity). It is our, Lady Katina and my, prayer that God continues to bless and keep you. May God smile on you and gift you with abundant wealth in body, soul, and spirit. Resolution WHEREAS, Thomas Mosley was born in Steelton, Pennsylvania on July 25, 1924, to the parents of Henry and Lula Mae Boone Mosley and WHEREAS, he completed his education in Steelton, Pennsylvania WHEREAS, In November, 1943 at the age of 19, he was inducted into the United States Marines, being the first African American from Steelton to enter the Marine Corps and WHEREAS, as an African American he was a part of the trailblazers in the United States Marine Corps and was an original Montford Point Marine and the Marine Corps Jr. ROTC Program at Rutland High School bears his name WHEREAS, On June 27, 2012, Thomas Mosley received the Congressional Gold Medal, the highest Medal of Honor that can be bestowed upon a civilian and WHEREAS, Thomas Mosley was an outstanding member of the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church serving in various leadership capacities such as Deacon, Superintendent of the Sunday School, member of the Senior Choir, and WHEREAS, Thomas Mosley was involved in community organizations, and efforts that sought to lift humanity Be it resolved that this day, the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church will establish The Thomas Mosley Military Award in his honor and memory. The award will be given either internally, or externally to a deserving individual who exemplifies the traits of Thomas Mosley.

OUR HISTORY 1887
A small band of baptized believers left Albany, Georgia to relocate to Macon, Georgia. The reasons for their short migration has been lost to history, but their spiritual legacy still thrives of the. Founding Members: E.C. Cummings, Mary Cummings, Dina King, Henry King, Angeline Marshall, Henry Marshall, and Elijah Underwood.

New Hope Church was organized in a small wooden structure on Woodliff Street in the Pleasant Hill community. Pleasant Hill, established circa 1879, served as a settlement primarily for “colored people� according to the National Register of Historic Places.
1889
Rapid growth of the church mandated relocation. The church moved a few blocks to 1637 Third Avenue.
1897
The first cornerstone was laid and the church paid off the debt and obtained the deed to the property.
1928
During the Great Depression, the church erected a brick building on the site.
1987
The church celebrated its Centennial in a year long observance.

In August, the church purchased property at 1465 Burton Avenue and moved to its current facility on October 20, 2000.

he Sara Redd Troutman Youth Award was established in 1985, in memory of the late Sara Redd Troutman, a Sunday School Teacher and Youth Director at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, who unselfishly donated her time to encouraging and educating tomorrow’s leaders. The Award is presented each year during the Church Anniversary celebration to an individual who exemplifies Christian principles and values through participation in church ministries and who demonstrates initiative, academic excellence and leadership qualities. The Golden Jubilee Club was organized in September 1982 and chartered February 27, 1983, to recognize and pay tribute to members who have served fifty (50) years or more. This elite group was founded with twenty-three charter members by the late Deacon James H. Wimberly. Annual recognition is given at the Church’s Anniversary Celebration. New members are inducted at this time as well. A plate, bearing the name of each member of the club and the year he or she joined New Hope Baptist Church, was displayed in the vestibule of the old church, and is presently located on the administrative wing of the new edifice.
