Hello I am Christopher Diaz,

I am a graduate student at California Baptist University with a passion for architecture and design. Raised in Big Bear, California, I gained hands-on construction experience through my family’s small business. A summer internship further shaped my vision for innovative and sustainable design solutions.

As I continue my studies, I’m excited to make a difference in the world of architecture. I want to design buildings that not only look good but also make people’s lives better. Collaborating with others who share my values, I hope to create a future where architecture is a force for positive change.

The design is a blend of nature and architecture, with an angled and staggered layout that follows the rhythms of the landscape to create an environment that fosters a sense of security, calm, and well-being. The facility includes four modules, each thoughtfully designed with mirrored layouts, strategically staggered, and interconnected through a zigzag path, which, when combined with monitored courtyards, creates a dynamic space that offers therapeutic benefits for residents with Alzheimer’s.

riverside school of ecology

Location: Riverside Ca

Year: 2023

Undergraduate 4th Year Design Studio

Category: Charter School

The Riverside School of Ecology seeks to create a collaborative school environment that utilizes nature to promote the well-being of students, and through its linear design that stretches along the longitudinal axis, it coincides with the best sun orientation, views, and winds. The thick intersecting wall defines the axis while creating pockets that overlook into outdoor areas. The two distinct linear masses slope on opposite ends to show movement but, more importantly, allow the outside to come indoors.

skywell

Location: Cambridge

Year: 2022

Undergraduate 4th Year Design Studio

Category: Christian Study Center

The Skywell Christian Study Center aims to strengthen the connection between God and the human spirit through holistically ascending the user towards the heavens.

The exterior and interior both express an ascension upwards towards the chapel space where inside you will find a scenic view of pure sky which references when Jesus ascended to the heavens and clouds. Essentially creating curiosity for the non believers and opening them up to Gods beauty.

Acts 1:9, ESV: And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight.

the precipice

Location: Redlands

Year: 2022

Undergraduate 3rd Design Studio

Category: Performing Arts Center

The Precipice Performance Hall deflects the busy city through its major masses to create zones of peace & solitude, and through its design which honors and references the past, it attracts guests to the edge to gaze beyond as both observer and observed.

The Precipice Performance Hall is inspired by creating memorable experiences through several look out points. With its location being at the heart of Redlands, it is constantly flowing with people from the nearby train station and highway. Although these areas tend to be the loudest, The Precipice Performance Hall deflects the noise through its angled mass and its absorptive materiality.

aggregative shape manipulation

Year: 2019

Undergraduate 2nd Year Design Studio

This project was focused on shape generation, subsequent duplication and positioning of aggregate forms in unique context. Each form features a strong resemblance within its region. The third rotated aggregate was placed in scene with Calatrava’s Twisting Torso design, while the first and second aggregates intentionally reflect their background.

framing space for poetry

Location: Riverside, California

Year: 2019

Undergraduate First Year Design Studio

Category: Poetry Foundation

By framing/stacking various volumes, a sense of tranquility is formed through the increase of natural light and views.

The main objective for the Riverside Poetry foundation design is to create an experience for the viewer by bringing the outside in. By manipulating volumes and stacking them into three floors the poetry foundation is able to account for better views and lighting of all four sides of the site, framing the city.
