GIVING THANKS We have much to be thankful for when we contemplate all that God has given us. Including the greatest gift, his love. It’s God’s gracious gift of love in Jesus Christ that we read about in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

NOVEMBER at Christ Journey

Being thankful is good for us! How can we know this to be true? Just try making a list of all that you’re thankful for without breaking out into a big wide grin. Giving thanks is bound to elicit a positive response.

Followers of Christ don’t have to wait for the fourth Thursday in November to ‘count our blessings’ and be thankful. On repeat, God’s word commands us to give thanks daily, hourly and even minute-by-minute.

Psalm 106:1 says to “give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.” God not only desires for us to give thanks, but instructs us to give the thanks to him.

Why? Because He is good.

IT AIN’T OVER TIL IT’S OVER!

Yogi Berra died recently. He stood 5’7” tall, but his legacy casts a large shadow. The New York Yankee catcher was honored in baseball’s Hall of Fame, won ten World Series rings, was a WWII hero who fought at D-Day Normandy and was a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom – the highest civilian award in the U.S. He stewarded these successes into the work of promoting life by fighting skin cancer.

Most people remember him for the fractured wisdom of his Yogisms: It’s déjà vu all over again. Nobody goes there anymore; it’s too crowded. Always go to other people’s funerals. Otherwise, they won’t come to yours.

With so much change and turmoil in the world, here’s one you might find relevant: The future ain’t what it used to be. Yet, for us in Christ, Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever! (Heb 13:8).
