The God of Promise assured His people, though they were in exile in Babylon, He was still working His plans to bring them into a brighter future. Their part was to “seek the peace and prosperity of the city” v.7. As long as they stayed true to His mission, He would bring them into the fullness of His promises.

For nine decades now Christ Journey has sought to be true to our Lord’s mission to share His love and truth in Christ with our world. Our path has been fraught with challenge and change. Yet, through it all, God’s faithfulness and blessing prevails. With the success of our Kendall extension, our Church Online and our many mission outposts, both local and abroad, it is right that we celebrate and give glory to God! THANK YOU To the many who have sent us congratulations and birthday wishes as we celebrate being 90 years young in ministry! We have heard from mission partners, ministry leaders, marketplace executives and from people served as we seek to be the body of Christ in our community and to our world.

Though our official “born on” date is Memorial Day weekend, we will be celebrating all year long! This month we start with a church wide family party and cookout, May 1 at our new Kendall location. The celebration continues with Journey Awards Sunday night, May 22. Of course, May always hosts Parent Dedication, Graduate Recognition and Senior Adult Banquet (June 4 this year with a very special musical guest!). Don’t miss a single event!

Please share my joy in our church being recognized by Leadership Network as one of “the four hundred most influential churches in North America”. May this humbling honor remind us, as our first pastor said 90 years ago, “The future beckons us…to build a great church…”

And pray with me that as we share Christ with our friends and family, His love in us will soon lead to their lights being added to the crosses on our campuses.

AT CHRIST JOURNEY

Jesus said, “I will build my ‘ekklesia’ (assembly, gathering or community),” Matthew 16:18 NIV. Jesus never said, “I will build my church buildings”; instead, He chose to build a gathering of Christ-followers who would start a movement.

He chose to build up people – His church, of which you have a part.

Here at Christ Journey Church we have a “serve” value expressed like this, “We each have a part.” When speaking of the church as His body, Paul writes, “Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.” 1 Corinthians 12:27. That body includes you.

You may be wondering, “Why should I serve, don’t they know how busy I am?”

If that is you, then realize that on any given weekend some very busy people like you are serving you. Why would these busy people serve? Perhaps it is a reflection of these words written to a church in Ephesus, “Because of His great love for us, God…” Because of His great love for us Jesus served, so they serve.

Because of His great love for us, Jesus gave so they give. Jesus said, “I will build my “people, gathering, congregation” and the gates of Hades (even death) will not overcome it.” I serve in the local church because of His great love and His great “Plan A,” for the redemption of the world – the local people of God, Christ Journey Church.
