Try a Group Mother Teresa once said, “Loneliness and the feeling of being unwanted is the most terrible poverty.” It transcends socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds. All of us know the feeling... even Elvis!

Yet, the promise of God and the presence of the church provide a way through the poverty of loneliness.

Jesus said to his disciples in John 13:34-35: “So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other.

Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.”

It’s worth it!

Love defeats loneliness, and as followers of Jesus seek to do life together, authentic friendships build up the community of believers.

Community is essential for every aspect of our faith. This January, trust the words of Jesus and join a group. Sure, it can feel awkward and risky. Yet, Jesus tells us that without community and the surrounding love of other believers, we ultimately miss our opportunity to share the love of Christ with the world.

A YEAR OF

CELEBRATION

Can you believe it? This year our church will be 90 years young! The missionary Apostle Paul celebrates with us that “…inwardly we are being renewed day by day…” as “…the old life is gone; a new life has begun!” (2Cor 4:16niv, 5:17nlt)

How do we make our way forward into the beckoning future? By forgiveness and faith. Forgiveness that lets go; Faith that holds on!

A favorite poem of mine begins and ends: “I wish that there were some wonderful place In the Land of Beginning Again, Where all our mistakes and all our heartaches And all of our poor selfish grief Could be dropped like a shabby old coat at the door And never put on again.”

In Christ that’s not wishful thinking, it’s our reality. We are freed through God’s forgiveness, and as we share it with each other, we are empowered by faith to welcome God’s future for us together. Nothing is too hard for God! His and yours, for a year of blessing,
