In truth, the State’s nickname, “The Garden State” more accurately reflects its true nature.

Welcome to The Jersey Shore!

While the state is one of the most densely populated in the country, large areas are devoted to vegetable and fruit farming and horse breeding. The northwestern part of the state is mountainous and sparsely populated and the eastern part of the state enjoys some of the most beautiful beaches in the country.

It is unfortunate that the image many have of New Jersey is represented by the oil refineries surrounding Newark (Liberty) Airport and the New Jersey Turnpike.

OVERVIEW Long the standard for accommodations and service in this part of the Jersey Shore, The Chateau Inn and Suites in Spring Lake remains the choice of many, including celebrities who visit the area. They raised the bar even higher a few years ago with their departure from the “Victorian and wicker” decor that characterizes so many places at the TheShore.location couldn’t be better, set in a serene section of Spring Lake, just blocks from the beach and the delightful downtown area, filled with boutiques, galleries and antique stores. The Inn is flanked on one side by Potter Park with a gazebo that features musical events in the summer and on another by Divine Park and “The Lake”.

Your introduction to the Inn is a warm lobby with polished mahogany paneling and front desk, fresh flowers and palms and soft lighting. To the right of the front desk is the antique filled Brighton Room with leather chairs, a library, and marble fireplace. Breakfast, afternoon refreshments and coffee and tea are served here at tables looking out onto the park.

THE ROOMS

The 37 rooms and suites are decorated in a soft palette of beige, cream, gold and brown and offset by dark mahogany furniture, rich Italian fabrics and deep chocolate leather Chateau Inn & Suites, Spring Lake, NJ sofas and chairs. Plump pillow top beds are covered in luxurious 300 count linens. Artwork is a blend of local, historical and colorful modern and Impressionist styles. Tin ceilings, wood-burning fireplaces, paddle fans, potted palms and sea grass and mahogany blinds complete an elegant “Tommy Bahama” kind of feel. Marble bathrooms feature Aveda toiletries and many have Jacuzzis and/or soaking tubs. Flat screen TV’s, DVD’s, wireless Internet access and refrigerated wet bars head the list of other amenities. As with many older properties, no two rooms are alike but all are elegantly decorated. Be sure to ask for details when booking as not all amenities are available in every room. We like the Luxury Parlor Rooms located on the second floor with views of the Lake. In particular, we like the Stockton Parlor with its corner fireplace, four poster bed, leather Ultimate Guide Jersey Shore

OVERVIEW We were thrilled a few years back when Inn on Main opened in our little town. There had not been many properties if this caliber in the area, so this was a welcome addition. Ideally located in the center of town, within walking distance of the train station and restaurants, and just a mile from the beach. THE ROOMS The Inn has 12 beautifully decorated and large rooms, some with balconies, all with sitting areas and all with fireplaces, pillow top beds, thick terry towels and Bio toiletries. Each room has its own distinctive character, but all are luxurious, comfortable and make you forget you are in Manasquan. These rooms are as nice as ones we have seen in Newport, Martha’s Vineyard, Charleston and Key West and other places we have traveled. All of the rooms are spacious and well appointed. Third floor rooms are slightly larger. My favorite rooms are #302 and #305, they are particularly large, very cozy and have balconies, fireplaces and large marble bathrooms. This is the perfect place to house a wedding party, overflow relatives at the Holidays, friends coming to town for a reunion. And, if you need to get away from the kids for a night, there is no better place for romance in the area.

sofa and balcony overlooking the Lake. Suites and Parlors have sleep sodas so are ideal when traveling with children. Most good hotels and inns offer special add-ons to enhance your stay, but frankly I find them to be generally overpriced and don’t include them in our review. Here, however, they are not and may explain why so many locals stay here…right in their own backyard….just for a little escape.

Oyster Point Hotel, Red Bank, NJ

OVERVIEW Red Bank is just about the hottest town in this part of the Jersey Shore. Great restaurants, a hopping night scene, delightful shops and boutiques and wonderful antique stores are all part of a revitalization project started about 10 years ago. It is working beyond anyone’s imagination. This is a fun town, day or night. If small inns or B&B’s are not your style, we recommend the Oyster Point Hotel in Red Bank. While it is about a 20 minute ride from most of what we recommend here, The Oyster Point is an elegant, boutique style, full service hotel overlooking the scenic Navesink River. It is by far the best overall accommodation at the Jersey Shore. It is also close to our two concert venues, the PNC Arts Center and the Count Basie Theatre and our top restaurant, Nicholas, just across the bridge in Middletown.

WHAT OTHERS SAY… A “sexy”, “French Riviera”–esque vibe draws “lively”, “hip” types to this “swanky” French seafooder in Long Branch’s Pier Village, touted for its “scrumptious” raw bar and “excellent” craft cocktails; “picture-window ocean views” and “terrific eye candy” help distract from the “noisy” decibels and “expensive” price tags.

32 | The Ultimate Guide to the Jersey Shore 2022 Recommended Dining by BestWeekends.com

The menu is classic French brasserie with daily specials like Coquille St. Jacques, Bouillabaisse and Dover Sole. You’ll find standards like Avenue, Long Branch, NJ charcuterie and fromage, onion soup, escargot and steak frite on the regular menu. But, you’ll want to start with the excellent raw bar, one of the few around, which is strange for an area by the sea. Fresh East and West Coast oysters, shrimp, King crabs, clams and lobster will satisfy just about anyone’s need for fruits de mer. My standard for roast chicken has always been Hamersley’s Bistro in Boston cooked by the acclaimed chef Gordon Hamersley, but I have to tell you this was equally as good, with a crisp skin, tender meat, a pommes puree and fava beans. Paired with an excellent Muscadet, it was a terrific meal. Jen enjoyed a succulent boeuf bourguignon that literally fell off the fork it was so tender. Served with fresh parpadelle, red wine sauce, braised vegetables and lardons, the flavors were rich and savory. The desserts are sinful, but don’t miss the crème brulee or the flourless chocolate torte served with a fresh raspberry sauce.

ROMANTIC QUOTIENT Sit outside on a balmy, moonlit night and you just might get a proposal.

Towering ceilings and lots of windows make Avenue seem somewhat cavernous at first glance, but then you notice the warming fireplace, the long stainless bar, the booths in the bar area, a raw bar right out on the floor and of course, the amazing ocean views. The beige palette is soothing, the staff young and attractive and even early on a Sunday evening there’s a kind of buzz here.

The wine list is very good with some excellent choices and I particularly like the presentation where the wine style is described clearly. While I would like to see more, there are ample choices under $50 in just about every category.

~ZAGAT

“Chef Chris Brandl demonstrates his enormous skill at this unpretentious New American BYO hidden in a Shore strip mall; true, it’s somewhat pricey for Belmar and the downscale decor and not-that-great service could be better, yet most feel this little gem has special occasion written all over it.” ZAGAT

ROMANTIC QUOTIENT When the weather is nice sit outside on the brick patio, under an umbrella amidst the flowers and twinkling lights.

In late 2019, Brandl re-vamped his menu and transitioned to a steakhouse. He bought a special oven from Spain for cooking the steaks over a charcoal fire. Now, Bone-in NY strip steaks, Filet Mignon, Veal Chops, Lamb Chops and Porterhouse steaks are all cooked in this special oven that produces a delicious crust and juicy, tender interior. For starters, the crab cakes are a must. My wife who is something of a crab cake aficionado, thinks they’re among the top few she’s had. The new “escargot” line-up offers the traditional garlic butter sauce, but made with escargot, lobster, shrimp or oysters and they are fabulous. My wife will take lobster served out of the shell any time she can get it and Brandl’s Lazy Lobster fit the bill. Served with asparagus scallion risotto and orgasmic vanilla bean butter. Dessert was a pre-ordered raspberry chocolate soufflé that was wonderful. Excellent food, skillful presentation, wonderful tastes, we left pleasantly full and talked about when we would return to sample more dishes.

There’s two reasons locals love Brandl. The first is that the food is awfully good and the second is that everybody likes chef-owner Chris Brandl himself. We’ll talk about the food in a minute.

Located in a strip mall, the space is decorated with bold colors and striking artwork which adds a touch of whimsy to a very serious restaurant.

The Ultimate Guide to the Jersey Shore 2022 | 33 Brandl, Belmar, NJ

Brandl is one of those guys who never stops giving of himself and his talent. He’s involved in virtually every local event be it charitable or otherwise. He’s an astute marketer and just an all-around nice guy. As nice as he is though, the restaurant wouldn’t be as popular without great food and that’s why it’s the choice of many for a good evening out.

34 | The Ultimate Guide to the Jersey Shore 2022 Drifthouse by David Burke, Sea Bright, NJ

Acclaimed celebrity chef David Burke is a Jersey Shore product (he worked at the original Fromagerie) and he came back two years ago to open Drifthouse by David Burke in Sea Bright on the second level of the Driftwood Cabana Club.

Drifthouse offers superb views of the Atlantic Ocean and sunset views over the Shrewsbury River. The dining rooms are elegantly decorated and feature many pieces of Chef Burke’s own artwork. The smaller dining room, often used for private parties, features a warming fireplace with a stone mantel.

Arrive early enough to enjoy a creative cocktail at the bar as you watch the waves crash on the beach outside. The Winter Spiced Old Fashioned is made with Asbury Park Double Barrel Bourbon Whiskey with an almond-vanilla winter spiced syrup and is perfect for a winter night. The Apple Harvest Pisco Punch is made with Pisco 100 a colorless Peruvian Brandy, Apple Cider Liqueur, lemon juice, cinnamon-honey simple syrup and a cinnamon sugar rim. Yum! Burke’s creative genius shows throughout the menu with unique items not found elsewhere. Consider Bacon, served on a clothesline glazed with maple and black pepper, or Angry Lobster Dumplings served with Angry Sauce and a lobster reduction. Or perhaps his signature Pastrami Salmon “Carpaccio” served with a cucumber salad and buckwheat blini. Oysters are harvested fresh from an oyster tank, as are fresh lobsters from a lobster tank.

The pastas are delicious, particularly the Bolognese and the Organic Roast Chicken is wonderful. For a real treat, though, have the 40 day salt aged porterhouse for two. It is a process using Pink Himalayan Rock Salt that has been patented by Burke. Add some “Hipster” fries and Spinach & Mushrooms, and perhaps a glass of 2017 Treanna Cabernet Sauvignon, Paso Robles to complete the meal. The booths are cozy and intimate and there’s something about a balmy night on the patio with the lights twinkling in the trees. La Dolce Vita, Belmar, NJ La Dolce Vita is a delightful oceanfront restaurant in Belmar serving lunch and dinner every day. The Ultimate Guide to the Jersey Shore 2022 | 35 Fratello’s, Sea Girt, NJ Everyone has their “go to” restaurant, that place where you feel so comfortable, it comes to mind every time you think about dining out. Fratello’s is one of our “goThetos”. atmosphere is cozy, the staff is well-trained and fun, the owner is always there to greet you and the food is delicious. You can sit at the lively bar, which we often do, in a cozy booth when you have more people or outside on the patio when the weather cooperates. Start with one of their huge martinis like the Mango Martini; Bacardi Mango, Pineapple Juice, Cranberry Juice and Triple Sec. or, opt for a glass of wine like a Fleur de Mer, rose from Provence or an Antinori Sangiovese “Santa Cristina” We always start with an Eggplant Rolletini appetizer, stuffed with creamy, ricotta cheese and swimming in their award winning tomato sauce. The Garlic Shrimp is wonderful with jumbo shrimp sauteed with garlic, diced Roma tomatoes, scallions, capers and fine herbs in a chardonnay white wine and served over a crostini. The Rigatoni Baresi is a favorite with the pasta tossed with sweet Italian sausage, roasted peppers, garlic and oil and cannellini beans. The dish we come back to time and again is the Chicken Scarpariello; boneless chicken and sausage sauteed with garlic in a balsamic and white wine reduction. Big fan too of the Cesari “Mara” Valpolicella priced very reasonably at $39. Delightful private room that can accommodate up to 40 people for a private party. See menus here. Serving dinner daily and lunch Friday-Sunday.

Inside, a marble bar with redwood wine racks behind it, is separated from the dining room by a ½ wall. The walls are done in a beige patterned wallpaper and the room has marble columns, funky hanging globes in a track lighting arrangement and tile floors. The 14 or so tables in the dining room are elegantly set with white tablecloths and sparkling accessories. Large windows on two sides allow you to take in the scene outside. I have an old adage, when the bread is warm, good things are to come and that was the case here. The pastas are delicious and could be meals unto themselves. Pappardelle Amatriciana sautéed

The original restaurant opened in Ocean Grove in 1995 as a small storefront BYOB. It moved to its current location in May, 2002. But it really all began with The Raspberry Café: Founded in 1988 by owners Howard Raczkiewicz and Luke Magliaro, the breakfast and lunch place was legendary for it’s fresh food, juice bar and homemade muffins. Howard and Luke are still the hands-on owners who oversee the daily operations of Moonstruck. Moonstruck is housed in a multi-story – Victorian style building with lots of windows and wrap around porches. There are wonderful views across Wesley Lake to the Victorian Homes of Ocean Grove and The Great Auditorium, Ocean Grove’s famous landmark…And sometimes the full moon! The first floor offers a bar and lounge area where guests may enjoy cocktails and appetizers. The second floor is the main dining room with it’s own dining bar. The food is American-Mediterranean Grill, inspired by the healthy cooking of the Mediterranean region, incorporating fresh Ingredients, quality oils and whole grains in many of the dishes.

Good cocktail menu and a nice wine list with very reasonable pricing. No reservations, but here’s a tip, you can often get a seat at the bar on the second floor. onions, pancetta, garlic, extra virgin olive oil, fresh basil, San Marzano tomatoes and parmesan cheese. Or the Tortolini ai Funghi Graitinati filled with goat cheese and tossed with wild mushrooms, asiago, proscuitto, scallions and cream. Entrees, served with roasted potatoes, string beans and carrots, were equally satisfying. I had a wonderful Pollo Savoya, tender chicken breast with sweet peppers, cherry peppers, garlic, rosemary and a balsamic demi-glaze. Jen’s Veal Fiorentina was sautéed in a lemon white wine sauce, topped with spinach and melted mozzarella and sprinkled with roasted tomatoes. The wine list is small but very fairly priced. Most whites are under $35 and reds under $40. We had a wonderful Gavi at $24 on one trip and a surprisingly well priced Amarone at $48 on another.

Some of our favorite dishes; Keftedes, Greek style meatballs, tzatziki, lemon; Eggplant Fries; sea salt, local honey drizzle; Clams Cubano, house made chorizo, Aji Amarillo, olive oil, garlic, butter, white wine, cilantro, lemon; Roasted Garlic Shrimp, Butter, lemon, white wine, panko, Parmigiano; Pan roasted chicken, Herbed French Cut breast, lemon garlic sauce, mashed potatoes.

After 20 years as the best fine dining restaurant in New Jersey and one of the best in the country, Chef Nicholas Harary and his wife, Melissa have introduced a bold, new concept, Nicholas Barrel & Roost, that has raised the bar for casual style restaurants. They continue to produce outstanding food, but in a more relaxed setting. Gone are the white tablecloths and formal service. In its place is a modern farmhouse interior with a delightful al fresco patio. Lunch and weekend brunch are now served. The select drinks menu makes use of the season’s freshest ingredients and highlights liquors from Nicholas’ private-barrel

Fans of the restaurant will notice menu item carry-overs like prime steaks, bourbon braised suckling pig, pan roasted King salmon, butter poached Nova Scotia lobster tail and more. New items include a sirloin, short rib burger, artisan pizzas, fresh pastas and salads. You will not be able to resist one of the decadent desserts like the Giant Chocolate Chip Cookie with Nicholas Creamery Bourbon Aged Coffee Ice Cream.

Wonderful decor (who doesn’t like booths?), excellent bistro food, a very good wine list, a fantastic Sunday brunch with live jazz and a really enjoyable staff makes this a favorite at the Jersey Shore.

Pascal and Sabine are characters from French filmmaker Albert Lamorisse’s signature work, The Red Balloon. In the film, Pascal finds a red balloon with a mind of its own that follows him around the city. You’ll see that red balloon outside the doors of the restaurant.

This is the place to enjoy extraordinary seafood from salmon to tuna to lobster and more. Chef Terry is a master at taking a piece of fish and creating a masterpiece of flavors and textures around it. It is the only local place that serves fresh Dover Sole and it is priced below market at $39.

There’s an excellent raw bar with varieties of oysters and clams and fat jumbo shrimp. Try the Ship Wreck Shellfish Sampler. You can get lobsters fresh from their own tanks, a number of different cuts of beef and lamb. The beef is marinated and served with garlic mashed potatoes, onion rings and creamed spinach.

The wine list is about 50 bottles strong with some good choices and excellent values. There are plenty of options under $50. LAWYERS, DRUGS, AND BUM KNEES. NFL players are an eclectic group, prone to violence in some cases or guilty of misconduct in others. You should have a list of players that are holding out, suspended, or injured. This naughty list could grow as your draft approaches. Better check it twice.

DON’T DRAFT DETROIT LIONS RUNNING BACKS. Go ahead, draft a Honolulu blue and silver Lions RB. I dare you. The most yards by a Lion since 2014 is 860 by Joique Bell. Never heard of him? You’re not alone. Even the highly touted D’Andre Swift only had 617 yards last year. Need I say more? Plus, you know, they’re the Lions

NEVER DRAFT A KICKER OR TEAM DEFENSE. This one is serious. Fill your roster with extra RBs and WRs instead. Preseason is a war of attrition, and as players get injured, your extra bench stash might be the next fantasy superstar. Drafting kickers and defenses is a dart throw. No one predicted Younghoe Koo of the Atlanta Falcons would be the number three scoring kicker last year, and the perennially average Dallas Cowboys defense finished first. When the regular season begins, cut your 2 worst bench players to stream a kicker and defense every week based on matchups. It’s that simple. ANTE UP! We play fantasy football for fun, but when finances are involved, it sets an increased level of competitiveness. To that end, insist that no one drafts until all entry fees are paid. Unpaid winners because a few guys didn’t chip in is a crock that will be avoided by collecting up front. Lastly, if no money is involved, by all means, drink and draft! You can follow Bill Reinhard’s Fantasy Football advice weekly in the NY Daily News starting in July!

66 | The Ultimate Guide to the Jersey Shore 2022

Top Ten Draft Day Tips for the 2022 Season Bill Reinhard - Fantasy Billboard - NY Daily News NEVER DRINK AND DRAFT. Leave Bud, Jack, and Johnny home where they belong. Waking up hungover with a roster full of Houston Texans and 3 kickers is no way to start the season. Bringing drafts to the draft has ruined many a fantasy team.

FANTASY FOOTBALL PRESEASON PRIMER

DRAFT WITH YOUR HEART. Come again? Isn’t that the cardinal sin of fantasy football? Well, maybe. But dang it, I like rooting for Josh Allen and hate pulling for Tom Brady. Pick the players you want to watch on Sundays. I once drafted the entire New Orleans Saints offense. Had a lot of fun; missed the playoffs but had a lot of fun.

DON’T SIT NEXT TO THE LEAGUE IDIOT He’s the lovable loser that picked up a fantasy magazine at the 7 Eleven an hour before the draft. He’ll ask you questions the entire night, spill pastrami on your cheat sheet, and your draft will suffer. He also had the worst record last year. Let’s hope he repeats.

DON’T BE LEAGUE COMMISSIONER Babysitting a bunch of bickering knuckleheads for four months is unnecessary torture and takes away from your own team success. Even if the Commish gets a discounted entry fee, don’t do it. You’re welcome.

HAVE A GREAT TEAM NAME From personal experience, a good name is good juju. I’ve had clever monikers in my leagues: The Wrecked ‘Ems, The Fighting Amish, The Gashouse Gorillas, The Bridesmaids, Studbears, Murray’s Deli, En Fuego & The Wayfarers, and my all time favorite The Favre Dollar Footlongs.

IF YOU FAIL TO PLAN, YOU PLAN TO FAIL. Watch preseason games. Do mock drafts. Listen to podcasts on your way to work. Bring cheat sheets to the draft. There’s a ton of up to date information online. Use it. And for heaven’s sake, know your league rules! Also, in this age of COVID, add 2 extra rounds to your draft. You will need extra players to plug in if infections rise.

Jersey shore locals have their favorite breweries too. It might be that little store front sized place down the street or the one with the giant gleaming tanks and a killer view of the ocean. How about the one that makes your favorite IPA or that quirky Saison? Here are five of my favorites.

Favorite Jersey Shore Breweries 5 Favorite Jersey Shore Breweries

Located at the northern tip of the Jersey shore in Atlantic Highlands Carton Brewing is one of the most creative breweries in the state. Co-owner Augie Carton is often inspired by food and flavors when designing a beer recipe. The tap room, with it’s exposed brick and roughhewn timber is as cozy as it gets. Back in 2011, when I first talked to Augie, he said that if this brewery thing didn’t work out he’d still have one cool man cave! Well, it certainly worked out. (Nearby notable: Ross Brewing - dock and drink coming soon.)

(Nearby notable: Beach Haus Brewing - what a view!)

Kane Brewing Kane’s location in may not be as picturesque as Carton’s but, having opened the same year (2012), they’re another OG of the Jersey craft beer scene. Owner Michael Kane’s love of surfing and all things littoral show up in beer names like Head High and Sneakbox. They do everything well, but their IPAs and Imperial Stouts are world class. (Nearby notable: Jughandle Brewing - 2 rights = 1 left) Little Dog Brewing

Carton Brewing

If sun, sand, and surf aren’t enough for you, the Jersey shore offers another one of life’s great pleasures. Beer. We’re practically awash in the stuff. The amount of great beer being produced up and down our shoreline is staggering. There are roughly 130 small breweries operating in New Jersey and about a quarter of them skirt the coastline. So, whatever shore town you wind up in there’s at least one craft brewery close by.

By Peter Culos, Craft Beer Contributor JerseyBites.com

This Neptune brewery is, well, little. Owner, brewer, and dog lover Gretchen Schmidhausler is the first lady of brewing in the Garden State and her storefront brewery produces wonderful little beers. I really do mean little. Coming in on the lower end of the ABV scale, “small” in beer parlance, they are still packed with flavor. The diminutive taproom is simply adorable.

Battle River Brewing

70 | The Ultimate Guide to the Jersey Shore 2022

Just steps from the Toms River, in its namesake town center, and near the site of a Revolutionary War dust-up, Battle River is a gem. They have a diverse and creative tap list and really embrace the local community. Local restaurants provide menus daily and will deliver your order if you need a nosh with your beer. Time your visit with Downtown Toms River night for even more fun. Every Friday and Saturday night from May through October there’s a street festival right outside their door. (Nearby notable: Heavy Reel Brewing - big and bold.)

Well, those are my favorites in my neck of the woods but there’s a lot more shore to explore!

Not all of the fun in Point Pleasant Beach is located on the boardwalk. Last Wave is located in the upcoming downtown area and sports a distinct beachy surfer vibe. That’s not surprising since owners Bert Roling and Nick Jiorle are die hard surfers. The atmosphere is fun and friendly, and the beer selection rolls from lager to fruited sours to IPAs and even some dark stuff. When the beach day is over, you need a beer. (Nearby notable: Icarus Brewing - more IPAs!)

The Manasquan High School Class of 1981 held their 20th reunion in July of 2001 at the Crystal Point in Point Pleasant, NJ. Paul Keating was catching up with his classmates and told them he was a NYC Fireman. His friends said, “Paulie, that’s just crazy”. But he looked them in the eye with that smile of his and said, “I have to tell you, I love it!” Less than 6 weeks later Paul was awakened in his Cedar Street apartment in NYC when the first plane hit the World Trade Center. He called his sister Jeanne to let her know he was ok but that he was going to the fire station behind his apartment. It was his day off but looking out his window he could see glass and debris flying everywhere even though the towers were over a quarter mile away from his apartment. He knew this was no ordinary occurrence. Then he told his sister, “I’m going to the World Trade Center to help my brothers.” That was the last thing anybody ever heard from Paul Hanlon Keating. Paul Keating was a regular guy; funny, always smiling. He wore puka beads around his neck (ask your parents, kids). He told corny jokes. School was a lot of fun for him. He wasn’t all that interested in academics. He was interested in his friends and good times. Paul would be the first person to say, “Why the heck would you ever have a scholarship in my name?” He would say he was just doing his job on 9/11. But the fact is while thousands of terrified people were running away from the WTC, Paul and his brothers were running towards it Paul’s body was found on March 7, 2012 under the South Tower lobby next to the revolving doors he was manning to help people escape the building. The Paul Keating Memorial Scholarship is a $1000 essay contest explaining “Bravery and Patriotism: What It Means to Me in the United States Today” . All Manasquan High School Seniors are eligible every year. It is funded from generous donations by the Manasquan High School Class of 1981 and the Manasquan Patrolman’s Benevolent Association MHS Class of 81 Alumnae Bill Reinhard and Jake Kleinecht keep the scholarship running every year. Mr. Reinhard corresponds with the high school and presents the winning seniors at the annual Academic Awards Night. A retired Manasquan Police Captain, Mr. Kleinecht arranges the annual donation from the PBA as well as running various fundraisers in the summer. Paul Keating was everyone’s friend. The MHS Class of 81 keeps this scholarship going to insure that Paul’s life and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Paul Hanlon Keating, NYC Fireman, Ladder 5

It’s important to remember that Paul Keating walked the same hallways of Manasquan High School as the seniors who win this scholarship. It’s important to remember that in June of 1981, Paul was an excited senior getting ready for graduation, and in Paulie’s case, the graduation parties! It’s important to remember that he was a goofball, a friend, a son, a brother, and on his last day on earth, Paul Keating was a hero.

Donations to support the scholarship are welcome and needed. Please make checks payable to: The Paul Keating Memorial Scholarship, 2396 Sycamore Street, Manasquan, NJ 08736
