Welcome to the very ßrst edition of 2 0 2 . During this time, I¶m habitually inclined to hark back to the happenings from the past 1 2 months. Despite the obvious lingering COVID- related challenges, it¶s clear to see what a surprisingly optimistic year 2 0 1 has been. There were numerous positives that came to light ‡ specißcally in the world of architecture, construction and design. We embraced several industry breakthrough welcomed sector-wide technological adoptions ‡ not just up and down the country, but throughout the world ‡ and conclusively opened our eyes to the environmental destruction that we¶ve instigated. A leading example of the industry¶s technologic advancements is the world¶s ßrst 3 D- printed school in Malawi, which was built with minimal material use and carbon footprint at a record speed, having been printed in 1 8 hours. More generally, however, was the rife utilisation of artißcial intelligence ( AI) i helping to support infection control in our public buildings. And, of course, let¶s the pledges and heightened awareness of building for a greener, cleaner planet that aros from autumn¶s COP2 6 , too. Overall, the architectural and construction ßeld has been a hiv of alterations, tech adoptions and eco mindfulness.

Whilst undertaking his college studies, Chris Wilkinson’s tutors tried to discourage a career in architecture.

After a further year at art college, instinct kicked in, and Chris overlooked his teachers’ deterrent, treading the architectural career path. We’re currently working on reimagining single-family housing, and using modern methods of construction that can promote it. We will start construction on our net-zero, singlefamily housing sites for Present Made at Eddington (Cambridge) and Mill View (central Bedfordshire). We’re also looking at multi-unit build-to-rent schemes, which we’re trying to push to the forefront of the build-to-rent market, and helping to build buildings that are functionally correct and promote longer-term rental lifestyles.

The room gave us th e p e rfe ct sp ot to show off ou r first- eve r ta b l e of th is s ize.„ For this table, S am and Josh used reclaimed scaffold boards for an industr yet rustic look. The client wanted to keep the natural colour and enhance the grain of the wood. Having used Osmo products before, S am and Josh tried some samples and recommended Osmo Polyx- Oil Clear 3 0 3 2 .

Osmo Polyx- Oil delivers a highly- durable and hard-wearing ßnish that is verywater and dirt resistant. It is also resistant t common liquid spillages, making it ideal for a dining table. The product enhances the wood¶s natural character and delivers a microporous, breathable ßnish that does not crack, peel or ake.

T he team applied two coats of the clear Osmo Polyx- Oil with a brush. After the first coat, they lightly re- sanded ( by hand) , cleaned and then applied the second and final coat. They sanded in between as the wood grain raises after the first coat so this process really helped to get that perfectly- smooth surface.

D espite this, the end result was worth it Josh says: ‚We are very pleased with the final outcome of this table. We learned a lot by making something this large! It will certainly help us going forward. The customer was delighted with the table¶s finish and ordered a shelf to match, which we also finished using Osmo Polyx- Oil. They love the natural colours and features of the wood and, whilst it¶s clear¶, it still gives that great protection from stains wear and tear. We are huge fans of Osmo products as they are great quality, easy to apply and really do enhance the beauty of the wooden furniture we make.„
