Celebration of Achievement 2021

A Letter from Our Directors At CHRIS 180, every one of our youth has their own story.

When they first come to us, many aren’t sure how to share their story. They can feel shut down and may feel like no one wants to hear what they have to say. Or they may struggle with anger and regulating their emotions. Or they’re so wrapped up in trauma and anxiety that they don’t know what to do.

No matter how they come to us, we walk alongside them to build trust and help them figure out a path forward. When they come to our foster homes, our Drop-In Center for youth experiencing homelessness or our Summit Trail apartments for young adults, we step in as their support network. We show them we care and talk with them honestly about their experiences. What do they need to feel safe? What are their goals? What can we do to help them get there?

As we get to know each other, these youth and young adults start to open up. You get to see their personalities and all of the little things that make them unique. And you get to see them make really big progress in their relationships, in school and in their mental health. They start telling their own story with confidence.

At the end of every school year, we ask them to think about what they’ve achieved and to write it down. Then we all come together in a Celebration of Achievement, where we enjoy a meal, present the youth with certificates of their achievements and publicly give them the kudos they deserve.

CHRIS 180 helps children, adults and families who have experienced trauma change the direction of their lives to become more productive, self-sufficient members of the community. We do this through mental health counseling, training, providing safe housing and real-world skill building.
