Blast From the Past Filled with fun fellowship, the Reunion for the Chowan Classes of 1960 to 1969 on April 11th began with a reception at the Camp President’s Home & Gardens. As the party moved to the Helms Center, special entertainment featured Milton Bullock, one of the original members of the Platters, who also signed autographs and posed for pictures after his concert.
A delicious buffet lunch was accentuated by the music of Chowan’s own senior Music Education major Vaughn Byrd of Stafford,VA singing his version of classic hits from the 1960s. A fabulous Journey Down Memory Lane slide show presentation, prepared by your Alumni Relations Director Kay Thomas, brought the past back to the present. It can be found, along with more photos from the event, on www.facebook.com/ChowanAlumni.
The day ended with tours of the beautiful campus in its springtime splendor, as well as tours of the Helms Center to show the construction of the new pool facilities currently underway.

Singing classic hits like “Only You,” “You’ve Got The Magic Touch,” and “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes,” Milton Bullock was a highlight of the reunion.

The Golden Platter
Oh, how I recall, and very vividly, the day we ‘The Platters’ were warmly greeted and welcomed by the Chowan College faculty to perform for the students of 1965 there on the stage in the auditorium! As it was very special for me, members of my family from Eastern NC and Virginia drove down to witness our historical performance! Right afterwards, we headed straight to New York City to record the “Tonight Show with Johnny Carson”-- which was broadcast nationally and world wide at that time!!
