Artistic Feature: Mind | Body | Spirit Series
This season’s 10th Anniversary 3-concert programming centerpiece shone a light on our founding value that the choral instrument is inherently colored and informed by the human being it is attached to, who must be cared for.
To appreciate and work with the choral art, we must recognize that what you hear cannot be separated from what that person is moved and influenced by, the state of their body – not just their knowledge and training.

The order of the programs was deliberately scheduled in reverse of the usual order to de-emphasize the most expected dimension, the cerebral.
Ensemble and Chorus both shared the honor of bringing this series to life, using the intimacy of National Sawdust to explore the personal and cerebral aspects, and the expansive arena of Irondale Center to bring dimension to the physical.
For such a landmark year, we chose to work again with artist Marc Bovino, who has designed much of Choral Chameleon’s most impactful concert artwork over the past 9 seasons. His striking skeleton-based design was bold, eye-catching and effectively connected the viewer to the vulnerability of the musician.
Bold visuals were a general theme of this Series – large scale projection-mapped images accompanied the Ensemble at their National Sawdust presentations and served as backdrops for the Chorus at Irondale Center, who themselves created tableaux with their bodies.
