3. MEET WITH FINANCIAL AID
While CIS Abroad program fees are part of what you’ll spend during your time abroad, there are other expenses that you’ll want to know about when you’re budgeting for your abroad experience including your passport, round-trip airfare, food (if you aren’t on a meal plan), extra travel expenses, visa fees, and other miscellaneous costs.
Schedule an appointment with your school’s study abroad/academic advisor (as well as the financial aid office) as soon as you can. Knowing how much aid will travel with you is key to determining affordability! Ask:

Does your home university allow institutional aid to be used for study abroad?

Does your home university have a direct billing arrangement with CIS Abroad? If so, your financial aid will go to your school and they will pay CIS Abroad for the program fee.

HOW TO APPLY 4. APPLY FOR GRANTS AND SCHOLARSHIPS CIS Abroad offers many scholarships and grants - we have one for you. SCHOLARSHIPS •
Academic Merit Scholarship | $250
•
First-Gen Student Scholarship | up to $500
•
Student of Color Scholarship | up to $500
Look for a scholarship application in your online student portal after you begin your CIS Abroad application. After the deadlines listed below, our Scholarships & Grants Committee reviews applications from eligible candidates and selects recipients.
ELIGIBILITY •
Minimum GPA of 2.5
•
Students going on January programs aren’t eligible for scholarships or grants
•
Marketing Scholarship | up to $500
•
Rainbow Scholarship | up to $500 for students who identify as LGBTQIA+
•
All scholarship application requirements must be submitted by the deadline (below)
•
Greek Life Scholarship | up to $500
•
Candidates will be awarded only one scholarship, but students may submit multiple scholarship applications
GRANTS •
Go Again Grant | up to $250 for alumni going on a second CIS Abroad program
SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION DEADLINES

Passport Grant | $145 to cover passport application fees
Spring Semester Programs Scholarship Application Deadline: Oct 1 Award Notification: Nov 1

TRIO Student Grant | up to $750 toward your flight if you’ve ever been in a TRIO program

CIS Abroad Gilman Grant | up to $750 if you apply for the Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship
