What a Wreck!
July-September 2010 issue

A fascinating account of what lies beneath Brunei waters, experienced diver Wong Thye Sing takes readers for a dive into the ‘Australian Wreck’, previously named the S.S. De Klerk. Made in Amsterdam in 1900, the S.S. De Klerk’s journey began as a passenger ship before it was converted into a troop carrier by the Royal Dutch Navy in Indonesia, and then salvaged by the Japanese and renamed ‘Imaji Maru’ before the ship met its tragic end, taking 339 souls with it. What A Wreck! takes you through this mystifying ship wreck, where Wong Thye Sing chances upon vibrant marine life – and even human bones – and highlights other wrecks and dive sites that can be found in Borneo waters.

Journey to the Tip of Borneo October-December 2011 issue
Written by Rosie Russell Two seas – the Sulu and Sulawesi – meet at Simpang Mengayau, the northern most tip of Sabah and Borneo Island, to breathtaking vistas of long white sand beaches merging into the rocky headland, and a sky drenched in bright orange and red hues at sunset. Folklores & Legends of Brunei features some of the most popular and interesting stories that explain the legend behind each landmark in Brunei such as the sad story of the spurned mother and her ungrateful son Nakhoda Manis from the legend of Jong Batu; the fantastical tale of two mountains coveting a precious dragonstone from the legend of Bukit Tempayan Pisang and the vicious cockfight between Mutiara and Asmara from the legend of Lumut Lunting Island. These folklores were written with the help and expertise of Dr Maslin Hj Jukin – a lecturer from Universiti Brunei Darussalam.

Eat It can be said that you haven’t truly experienced Bruneian cuisine unless you’ve ventured out into the colourful world of hawker stalls or tamu. If you want to try any tamu in Brunei we would recommend going through Taman Selera. At night, this place attracts all sorts of hungry souls searching for a fix of ayam penyet, ayam bakar, lamb satay and cheap – but good – seafood meals. he Borneo Expedition, a newly launched series of overland 4x4 expeditions, was created to develop, document and promote sustainable overland routes in Borneo with each expedition comprising an exhilarating experience designed to promote key destinations of significant geological, ecological, cultural and historical importance. The first expedition of the series kicks off in May 2016 with a journey covering 1,500km over eight days to explore Sabah’s top nature adventure destinations. Most sections of the route are graded from easy to medium with a few challenging sections included to capture the adrenaline rush of a highlevel off-road expedition but all within safety limits to ensure the

experience will be both realistic and memorable. In keeping with sustainable green lane practices, roads that traverse through forest reserves have been carefully plotted and approved to minimize environmental damage with well-organised camping sites to provide the necessary facilities for a comfortable stopover at the end of each day. Overlanding is all about the freedom to explore off the beaten track and to enjoy the rustic beauty of natural attractions along the route. Be prepared to trek through the rainforests of the Maliau Basin and Imbak Canyon, shoot the white water rapids of the Padas River, cruise the Kinabatangan River in search of wildlife, hike to scenic waterfalls and take a nostalgic ride on
the only train line in Borneo. A community project in one of the remote villages will be added to the itinerary to give participants a deeper appreciation of the cultural significance of the expedition. A full-colour coffee table book documenting every aspect of the journey will be published to inspire other travelers to see Sabah from a different perspective. A detailed route map will also be included to help guide local and international overlanding enthusiasts to discover Sabah in the best possible way – on the roads less travelled with friends, family and a whole lot of fun.

On the Shores of Miri Miri, the second biggest city of the state of Sarawak, lies in the northern coast of the state. It gained its city status on 20th May, 2010. What was once a small fishing village transformed when oil was first drilled here in 1910, and has since then attracted foreign investors and companies from all over the world. In fact, more expatriates reside here than in any other town in Sarawak, even boasting of having the largest foreign population in Borneo at one time. Today, Miri has a diverse population consisting of many ethnic groups such as Chinese, Malay, Kedayan, Iban, Bidayuh, Melanau, Kelabit and much more.

Flowing along the northern boundary is the Baram River while the Tanjong Lobang cliff, which sits on the Southwest, gives Miri an awesome visage when viewed from a distance. at Satay Pak Cik Jawa, Japanese cuisine at Excapade, Italian fare at Mama Mia, Balinese seafood at Sajian Warisan, and even Kentucky Fried Chicken! A reflexology centre also gives beach-goers a chance for a quick massage in between sunning and enjoying the food. While Miri is home to many shopping centres that has visitors from the neighbouring country and nearby towns lining up at immigration checkpoints, Miri has much more to offer: great food, amazing views and beautiful beaches!

Solo art exhibition by artist Anina von Winterfeld Pamela Fletcher Sabah Art Gallery
T
he Sabah Art Gallery will be hosting an art exhibition by resident artist Anina von Winterfeld from 25 February to 26 March. Titled Traces Around the World, the exhibition will showcase around 80 art pieces, mostly from the last two years she has lived in Sabah as well as previous art works made in other locations around the world. Anina von Winterfeld is a German mixed-media painter who moved to Kota Kinabalu in 2013 after spending 15 years in Norway and Oman. After
graduating from the University Goettingen and Aachen, Anina taught art to primary school students in Germany and Norway before opening her own art studio in 2006. Since then, she has been busy conducting workshops for children and adults in Germany, Norway, Oman and Borneo. In the past years, she has also participated in various solo and group exhibitions in these countries. Traces Around the World will be Anina’s first solo exhibition in Sabah after participating in the Sabah Women Art
Exhibition (2014 and 2015), Invitational Exhibition (2015) and International Women Exhibition (Penang, 2015). Her inspiration is the microand macro cosmos of nature and any kind of textures she finds as well such as old, rusty, broken surfaces like tiles, floors or walls. She specialises in collage and mixed media techniques and loves experimenting with a variety of media in an abstract way. Showing the variety and transformation of surfaces under the influence of nature and the “beauty” of decay in an artistic
way was a challenge that inspired Anina to produce her art pieces for this exhibition. “If you take a closer look at man-made surfaces like old walls or floors, you can feel with your eyes the “beauty of decade”, discover traces of passing times and read history in these images,” explains Anina. “I prefer an intuitive and spontaneous way of painting, using natural materials, such as sand, marble powder, lime putty, pigments, bone glue and waxes. They develop a life on their own by reacting in an unpredictable and exciting way to create vivid, relieflike surfaces with rough, broken texture, sometimes showing deep cracks or fine fissures. In addition I integrate pieces I find, any objets trouvé, into my composition like wood, paper scraps, fabric pieces, bark or rusty iron parts to give my work a personal story or local memory.”

They initiated the Legal Clinic where two well-known legal advisors in the country give free consultation and accept cases on pro bono basis (most recently, they successfully helped an elderly man secure a piece of property that was taken from him). They regularly accept individual cases and no issue is too small for them. They make every situation personal - the families they have helped still remain under their care today.

lthough some people abuse animals with intentional malice, many people who hurt animals don’t do it on purpose. Horrifying stories of pets locked up in rusty and dirty cages, kittens thrown from a third-storey balcony, dogs chained in a yard for days under the scorching sun are just par for the course, like how the sight of strays wandering on the side of the road have become the norm. It stems from a lack of community awareness of the welfare of animals - some just don’t realize that what they are doing is cruel. The Care & Action for Strays (CAS) needs you to be aware of one thing: every animal deserves a chance at life, including the cat that you keep caged in your house and that poor abandoned stray at the garbage dump. CAS was founded to rescue, rehabilitate and care for abused or neglected animals - a supreme undertaking for its founding members and volunteers who are presently caring for rescued and stray cats

Care & Actions for Strays (CAS) and dogs in the hope of finding families to adopt them eventually. At the same time, they monitor and feed strays in different areas of Brunei as part of a Trap-Neuter-Release (TNR) Programme which effectively improves the lives of strays and decreases the size of colonies over time. While caring for these animals, the CAS educates the public on responsible pet ownership and the importance of neutering animals to reduce unwanted offsprings which sadly become homeless strays. These heroes for animals do all they can to save these creatures and while these are still small steps, the life of any animal is worth the effort. The sad reality is that they are not equipped to handle the overwhelming amount of abandoned and abused animals in Brunei, and they can’t save them all.

aleidoscope Studio has always been a known supporter of the creative arts - hosting art exhibitions, creative pop-up events and acoustic nights featuring upcoming local talents. ‘All That Jazz’ – an acoustic session held in October 2015 - struck the perfect chords. While the spotlight was trained on the sharply-dressed local musicians singing their low, sultry tunes, the audience who came dressed up for a night of jazz music, tucked into a delicious meal prepared by Saffron Café. It was a night to remember.

A Visit to ‘The Unknown’ Origin Films
Kicking off Jerudong Park Playground’s ‘November Weekend Specials’ was ‘The Unknown’ – a two-storey haunted house loaded with terrors within its walls. Built and designed by Origins Artistic Management (the team behind Yasmine The Movie) and in collaboration with Jerudong
Park Country Club (JPCC), the haunted house was opened over a three-day weekend on the last week of October. Horror fanatics – some dressed as their favourite horror characters – showed up to walk through the haunted rooms of the house, ready to be scared out of their wits at the terrifying props and actors. Screams from

Back in September last year, a large group of men in Brunei pressed their tweeds, fastened their monocles, straightened their bowties and took their vintage motorcycles and various other two-wheelers for a ride in style. They joined riders in 400 participating cities around the world who take to the streets every year in the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride to raise awareness and funds for prostate cancer. Their route began outside SAMO Furniture in Kiulap and they rode past landmarks in the capital such as the Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque, the Royal Wharf, then they moseyed along through Beribi before returning to Kiulap. There were also photo booth sessions, food vendors and the awarding of the Best Dressed ‘Dapper’ Gentleman that afternoon.

My tip for taking a great travel Instagram photo: I have only a very basic knowledge of photography - there is no need to take professional photography classes to take great photos while you travel. Good lighting enhances your photos, but most importantly, capture moments and characters of the places so it becomes more memorable.”

We love doing campervan trips in the Australian outback because you can really feel the freedom and the closeness to nature. The original dormer windows offer scenic views of the lime grove, polo fields and meadows of the estate. For a more secluded stay, the converted Cottages and Stables is located just a short stroll away from the Mansion House and offers the same warmth and comfort of a
country house but in a more sophisticated surrounding. Indeed the classy décor is evident everywhere in the hotel meticulously blending its unique heritage with contemporary designs and furnishings. Dining options are aplenty at Coworth Park, with in-house restaurants that offered me some

of the best dining experiences during my stay. The estate’s budget-mindful restaurant The Barn and the elegant Restaurant Coworth Park are talking points for the excellent food created in their kitchens, all of which I would gladly vouch for. I was also lucky enough to enjoy a sunny alfresco lunch on the terrace on a perfect summer’s day, where I had the hotel’s version of croquemonsieur filled with sumptuous summer truffles – much to the envy of my friends on Instagram! The spa at Coworth Park is a star attraction in its own right. Located in a modern building cleverly designed to blend in with the landscape, the building
houses an indoor heated swimming pool complete with piped-in music. After spending an hour indulging in an aromatherapy massage, I experienced one of the most deliciously healthy lunches I have ever had at The Spatisserie. While I dined on this nourishing meal and looked out at the vast, green peaceful haven that surrounded me, I plotted my return to this wonderful country house the next time I visit London.

Today, Na Forrér is one of the best-known local fashion brands in the country, and in early 2015, Farhanna launched her first Ready-to-Wear collection on Malaysia’s hottest online store, Fashion Valet. “The Spice Girls sparked my interest in fashion. I was very much influenced by how they dressed according to their nicknames and how they were influenced by ‘Girl Power’ and lived by that statement until today. Because of this, I wanted to dress women not just for fashion or style but to make a statement.”

YOUR PLATE? 10 FAVOURITE OFFERINGS
AROUND BORNEO Every morning, many Borneans are faced with a difficult decision to make: “What shall I have for breakfast?” This island is a hotbed of mind-boggling breakfast choices. If you’re ready for an early morning spicy kick, a dosai with its assortment of dipping condiments will hit the spot. Alternatively, slurp up a bowl of soupy soto or congee to warm up your belly just right. Those with a sweet tooth will no doubt happily munch on a steaming roti kahwin coupled with a cup of teh tarik. And if you can’t stay and chat, buy a meat-filled pau bun and enjoy it at your office desk. Whatever your gastronomical preference is in the morning, breakfast is an essential ritual whether it’s enjoyed over a good conversation with a friend or reading a newspaper in a kopitiam or in your own home, it will get your gears going for the rest of the day. In this issue of BiG, we do some snooping and tasting around to find out what are the popular breakfast dishes around Borneo.
Mee Jawa It is said that the mee jawa served in Sarawak is slightly different from the version served in the rest of Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia. Thick yellow egg noodles is served in a thick beefy broth and garnished with slices of chicken (or any meat you prefer), boiled egg and a sprinkling of coriander. The ‘special’ version available in Sarawak comes with a few sticks of satay doused in peanut sauce. Add a circle of dark soy sauce into the mixture and you’re ready to have a slurping good time.
Nasi Lemak This dish hardly needs any introduction. A famous Malay dish, it is considered the national dish of Malaysia and is much loved throughout Borneo. Fragrant rice is cooked in coconut milk and pandan leaves, and then served with fried chicken or beef rendang, a boiled egg, little fried ikan bilis fish, peanuts and a spicy sambal. The result is an aromatic combination of tastes that will leave you satisfied throughout the morning (and possibly through lunch).
Roti Canai A staple breakfast food that can be eaten with endless variations, this flaky Indian flatbread – prepared by a process of spinning and tossing a dough until the right consistency - is typically served with dhal or curry, but the versatility of the roti canai ensures that it can be paired with anything savoury or sweet, such as corned beef, sardines, onions, Nutella, kaya jam or sweet condensed milk. A perennial favourite in Southeast Asia, you can find roti canai anywhere: in your neighbourhood Indian eatery and even fivestar restaurants.
Char Kuey Tuaran Mee Thanis Lim A sign of a good plate of tuaran mee begins with its yellow egg noodles, which is handmade using only egg yolks and which should be springy to the bite. It is then topped with barbecued pork, leafy greens and egg rolls. Considered a ‘must-eat’ noodle dish in Sabah, tuaran mee originates from the town of Tuaran – a 45-minute drive from Kota Kinabalu – but can now be found in many restaurants around Sabah.
Also known as chakoi, these crunchy fried dough strips are available all around Borneo and can be eaten with any filling – meat, peanut butter, fruit jam, cheese, even Nutella - but in Brunei the most popular way of enjoying your chakoi is to have it filled with kaya jam and butter. Delicious for breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea!
Ngiu Chap Literally translated into ‘mixed beef’, this noodle soup has a mixture of beef and innards, so vegetarians, stay away! A popular dish in Sabah, it is said that no trip to this place is complete without a taste of this beefy treat that is typically prepared in a beef broth soup with your choice of yellow noodles or mee hoon, and a dash of fiery hot chili.
Kuching Laksa
Roti Kahwin
This spicy noodle soup dish has hints of spices such as cumin, coriander and nutmeg as well as fresh herbs like lemongrass, galangal and chili, blended together to make a paste which is then used as a base for the soup. Coconut milk is added when the stock is ready, and the broth is then ladled over a bowl of noodles and served with a wedge of lime and a dollop of sambal. A true Sarawakian delicacy!
Literally translated to mean ‘marriage bread’, this simple breakfast features two thick slices of freshly-baked bread trapping a cold slab of butter and generous amounts of kaya jam. Chop Jing Chew, the most popular coffee shop in Brunei selling hot buns, prepares its bread at 5am each morning and their kaya jam is made in-house, ensuring that each roti kahwin that arrives at your table is a fresh fluffy treat.
Belachan Bee Hoon
Kolo Mee While kolo mee (or kolok mee) can be found throughout Borneo, it is actually a signature dish from Sarawak. The key to this dish is its delicious simplicity: boiled egg noodles mixed with light soy sauce, oil, and topped with minced pork or other meat, chopped green onions and fried shallots, and it is served with a bowl of clear soup. A bowl of kolo mee will vary from place to place and you will find a slight difference in taste and presentation in Brunei’s version.
Uniquely Sarawakian, you will be hardpressed to find a restaurant outside Kuching that serves this dish. The soup base of this noodle is made with belachan (shrimp paste), and is served with bee hoon (rice vermicelli), garnished with shredded cucumbers, bean sprouts, sliced cuttlefish and century egg. The resulting taste is tangy, spicy and sweet. If you’re fan of belachan then you must try this dish!

Located at the lobby level, Favola has a warm and cozy interior surrounded by rich hues of granite, warm grey, bronze and gold with modern furnishings and mirrors to create the perfect ambience for intimate private dining. The new menu is innovative with bold flavours that linger on the palate. Our tasting dinner was an epicurean adventure of fresh homemade breads and appetisers of smoked salmon, grilled prawns, beef bresaola and their signature Favola salad to start. Our velvety smooth wild mushroom soup made with

porcini, white mushrooms and truffle butter was followed by two main dishes - the lava stone grilled Black Angus sirloin and a herb-crusted fillet of grouper. Thin-crust pizzas and beef tortellini with a light cheese and cream sauce added a classic touch to the menu. Their sorbets with unusual flavours combinations like capsicum and raspberry, zucchini milk, and tomato, basil and Tobasco sauce were adventurous and surprised the palate but for a more traditional dessert, the warm pear crumble tart was to-die-for. Favola pulled out all the stops to showcase their best culinary offerings and the results were just superb. The service was flawless and overall, it was one of my best fine dining experiences so far.

outique coffee shops are popping up all around Brunei, but it’s safe to say that Rack & Brew – a charming, shabby-chic café that has paid a lot of attention to details in the décor - is the first to introduce a fashion boutique and coffee shop concept. The savoury selections in the menu are worth trying out and they are stylishly presented in a rustic way on mismatched plates that makes for good Instagram shots. But the real champions are the desserts: the Purple Carrot Cake, Chocolate Fudge Cake (with popcorn on top) and the fluffy Victorian Sponge Cake, and we’ll certainly go back for these sweet treats again and order another cup of Flat White to go with them. Once you’re done with your desserts, waddle up to the second floor and check out their fashion store which offers a nice selection of clothes, accessories and knick knacks.

Their other signature dishes include a slow braised pork belly served with a thick syrupy sauce, but my favourite dish is the charsiu - caramelised barbecued pork with a sugary crunch and moist tender meat. We also tried their spicy chicken curry and steamed okra served with homemade sambal, both great dishes to share with friends. For dinner, try their Hainanesestyle pork chops which is only available at night! The normal kopitiam beverages are sold here but you should try their specialties: Little Hainan Tea, an interesting combination of tea and coffee, and their Hainanese Coffee - hot coffee mixed with a little slice of butter. This is a restaurant beloved by the Kuching masses and their signature dishes run out pretty fast. Our advice? Get there early to avoid disappointment!

The Signature Food Fest The Signature Food Fest is a platform for restaurants to explore new ways to carve a niche for themselves in the local food scene and introduce a signature menu that incorporates the essentials of flavor, texture, ingredients and presentation. Chefs are given the task to come up with a recipe that not only tastes and looks good but is also value for money. Herein lies the creativity of the chef to select the right ingredients and come up with the perfect combination. Participating restaurants are also
judged on ambience, customer service and the creative use of local produce. The second edition of The Signature Food Fest was held in October 2015 with a total number of eight restaurants vying for eight awards. Sabah Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun presented the awards to the deserving winners during the closing ceremony held at Oceanus Mall Kota Kinabalu on 4 November, 2015.

Islamic banks follow the same operation hours except on Fridays when they are closed for prayers between 11am - 2.30pm. Cash withdrawals and deposits can be made from Automated Teller Machines (ATM) that can be found in various shopping complexes and bank branches all over the country. ATM cards affiliated with the international Plus or Cirrus systems are accepted at most ATMs.

Telecommunications Friday Prayer Time All retail, food and beverage outlets and business offices are closed between 12 noon and 2pm on Fridays to observe the Friday prayer time for Muslims.
Islamic Etiquette Although Islam is the state religion of Brunei Darussalam, it is also a country that prides itself on the diversity of its people – including their religions. Visitors are welcome to mosques, provided some etiquette is followed. In general, proper attire is required; women are required to cover their head, shoulders, and knees. Some mosques will provide simple robes and shawls to meet these standards. Shoes are to be removed before entering a mosque. Please do not pass in front of people in prayer, and do not touch the Al-Quran. Please ask for permission before taking photographs – particularly inside! Mosques are usually closed on Thursday and Friday, and during prayer times – your hotel, tour guide, or Muslim locals can help you determine a good time to visit.
Most public phones operate on calling cards such as Hello card, Netkad and Payless. These cards can be purchased at any store and comes in $5, $10, $20 and $50 denominations. Prepaid calling cards for the two mobile telephone operators, DST and Progresif Cellular, can be purchased from their respective authorised dealers in major shopping areas.

Buses There are six bus routes servicing the BSB area: the Central Line, Circle Line, Eastern Line, Southern Line, Western Line and Northern Line. Normal operating hours are from 6.30am - 6pm. Bus fares start from B$1.00. Buses heading to other towns in Brunei such as Tutong, Kuala Belait and Seria depart from the bus terminal located at the multistorey carpark on Jalan Cator in BSB.
Water
Smoking Smoking is prohibited in both air-conditioned and non airconditioned areas in Brunei Darussalam. Smoking is banned in specific places, including government buildings, hospitals, recreational and educational centres, public transport and restaurants. Offenders could be fined.
Taxis can be found at the airport, hotels, shopping centres, and the central bus station in Bandar Seri Begawan. There are no metered taxis in Brunei, therefore it is advisable to negotiate your fare before getting into one. For your convenience it is also recommended to take your preferred taxi driver’s number to organize prearranged trips.
Taxis Unique to Brunei, the water taxi is the most common means of transportation in Kampong Ayer. You can hail a water taxi from the numerous jetties along the banks of Brunei River. Fares are negotiable but usually a standard ride costs about B$1.00. Regular boat services to Temburong operate between 7.45am to 4pm daily and a round trip costs B$15.00.
Ferry Services Passenger ferry services to the Malaysian island of Labuan operate from 7am to 4pm and departs from the Serasa Terminal in Muara town. The journey takes about 45 minutes to an hour.

Buses
There are three main bus terminals that operate regular services. The terminal along Jalan Tun Razak provides services within the city and its outskirts. For destinations south of the city (Papar, Beaufort, Tenom, Tambunan, Keningau), use the terminal near Padang Merdeka. For any other destinations north of the city and all the way to the east coast towns of Sandakan, Tawau, Lahad Datu and Semporna, you have to take a bus to the Kota Kinabalu North Bus Terminal in Inanam and from there proceed to your destination of choice. Kinabalu Park is located en route from Kota Kinabalu to Sandakan.
Air Travel
Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) is the second busiest airport in Malaysia and is the main terminal for Malaysia Airlines, MASWings, Firefly, Royal Brunei Airlines, Dragonair, Silkair and Asiana Airlines. Terminal 2 caters to low-cost carriers Air Asia, Cebu Pacific and Eastar Jet.

A free city-tram service is available for sightseeing around Kuching with pick up points at designated hotels. A daily bus service between Kuching and the airport operates from 6am-7pm and takes 40 minutes. The main intercity bus terminal is at Penrissen Bus Terminal southeast of Kuching. Ask Tourism Information Centres for bus timetables; a ‘green bus’ in the Kuching area goes to Santubong (SCV).
Air Travel
Kuching International Airport services airlines to destinations within Malaysia and overseas via Malaysia Airlines, Air Asia, Firefly, Tiger Airways, Royal Brunei, Silk Air and Batavia Air (Pontianak, Kalimantan). A network of services using smaller aircrafts provides access to remote destinations within Sarawak such as Bario, Mulu and Ba Kelalan.
Licensed money changers can be found at the airport, shopping malls, hotels and major banks. Some money changers may not accept foreign currency in small denomination or notes with a date or serial number that they don’t approve of.

Ferry Services Jesselton Point is the main terminal for boats to the Tunku Abdul Rahman Park islands and to Labuan Island. If you wish to drive to Labuan, use the ferry terminal at Menumbok south of the city where car ferries are available.
Express Boats and Ferry Services A boat service locally known as tambang is available for the short trip across Kuching River to the riverside villages on the other side and along the river for sightseeing. Fast and comfortable express boats connect coastal towns (Kuching, Sibu, Kapit) and villages on the major rivers in Sarawak. The Express Ferry Terminal in Kuching offers trips to Sibu and onwards to Kapit for upriver journeys. Take a bus from Sibu to Miri for ferries to Brunei and onwards to Labuan island and Kota Kinabalu.
Taxis
Taxi fare from Kuching Tourist airport to the city cost about Information Centre RM22.00 per way. Taxies are easily found at large hotels, or at taxi stands in all the major towns in Sarawak. Taxis don’t use meters so always negotiate the fare before getting into a cab!
