THE LEADERS OF THE DISTRICT ODP
By Gordon Miller, VYSA Technical Director
Virginia Youth Soccer Association’s ODP program is designed to identify, train and showcase the best eligible youth players within the VYSA community. Players from across the state are selected through tryouts, scouting, and recommendations, and are then invited for further training and evaluation in one of our five district programs:
1) Southeast (Virginia Beach and surrounding area)
2) Central (Richmond and surrounding area)
3) West (Roanoke and surrounding area)
4) West Central (Charlottesville and surrounding area)
5) North (NOVA and surrounding area)
Each district will train throughout the fall season, preparing players for the state team tryouts in November.
Each district program is led by a highly skilled District Head Coach, who selects their own coaching staff, secures practice locations, and implements the curriculum set by the state Technical Director for players born between 2013 and 2008 The District Head Coaches also communicate with local clubs and coaches to ensure that well-performing players have the opportunity to participate. These District Head Coaches are well respected individuals, who have a terrific background in the game, and work hard on behalf of the talented boys and girls in their areas. If you know a player with exceptional potential, please reach out to the relevant District Head Coach!

USYOUTHSOCCERUNVEILSPLANSFOR THEGAMEPROJECT
Congratulations to McLean Youth Soccer for being selected by USYS to participate in The Game Project! Organizations selected for this project commit to implementing the game model for two seasons consisting of a minimum of six weeks each season. US Youth Soccer is dedicated to learning from the organizations, parents, and coaches participating in the project, and will work with participants to collect survey data from coaches and parents.
The Game Project’s focus is supporting USYS member clubs by providing resources to apply a new game model to their U5 and U6 recreation age groups. Utilizing research from Europe and a U.S. Soccer pilot program, the project shifts these age groups to a model utilizing smaller fields with games of 2v2 or 3v3.
