Publix is a proud sponsor of Virginia youth soccer.

This year’s VA-DC Soccer Hall of Fame Golf Tournament was held on September 25, 2025 at the Pleasant Valley Golf Club in Chantilly, Virginia. There was a record number of 19 teams with 71 players competing for the Founder’s Cup. The weather again cooperated by suspending the rain during play. The players and volunteers enjoyed a continental breakfast and WAGS sponsored buffet luncheon during the awards and auction. Several WAGS representatives attended and volunteered as well and WAGS 50 sponsored a team again this year. Players represented several soccer leagues, clubs and organizations from across Virginia and DC. Team ParCiti won the Founder’s Cup and Team Allen won the Senior Division.
Many interesting raffle prizes were awarded and the Live Auction, mc’d by Keith Tabatznik, was very special this year with the usual fabulous prizes of golf at various facilities and dinner at Fogo de Chao. However, this year Ann Germaine donated two extra special prizes---two shirts autographed by the original 1985 US Women’s National Soccer Team Players. Those items were priceless and the winning bidders got absolute bargains.
Since 2015, a fundraising golf tournament has been held annually to support the Virginia-DC Soccer Hall of Fame, serving as its sole fundraising activity and primary source of annual funding.
The VA-DC Soccer Hall of Fame is honored to work with the Virginia TOPSoccer program and John Schlenker and has donated about one third of the profits from the tournament to TOPSoccer over the last few years. This year $3,500 was raised for VYSA TOPSoccer!

Excellent work both on and off the field at the US Soccer C In-Person course.
Thank you to all the coaches and educators for fostering such a positive learning environment!

The WAGS Rael Vodicka Memorial Day tournament was held at PVSTC on October 11-13.
Girls from U16 to U19 teams played at multiple different complexes throughout the tournament where they highlighted their talents on the field in showcase games, giving over 200 attending college coaches the opportunity to scout for their next collegiate superstar. READ MORE

Lions across Virginia working with the Virginia Department for the Blind and Vision Impaired (DBVI) are giving mini rattle soccer balls called “Ball for All” to children of all ages. These balls were developed by a Greek soccer player when he saw students who were visually impaired sitting on the side lines while he was conducting soccer camps several years ago. Virginia Lions were introduced to a “Ball for All” last year. Since then, 300 balls have been distributed across Virginia one ball at a time. Virginia was the first state to begin distributing these balls to visually impaired children in North America.
Our goal is not only to provide balls to visually impaired children but to also make connections with parents and siblings. Telling them about what Lions are known for and sharing opportunities to attend summer camps, to receive orientation and mobility training and to test drive a guide dog. With all these opportunities, we hope to help these children to become unstoppable as they discover their future paths to independence.
Every child has their own experience dealing with vision loss, so every ball that is given by Lions has its own story. Connections are what we are making. Parents are thanking us for giving these balls to their children. Lions who sponsored these balls are visiting with families and forming relationships that will last for years to come. Children are expressing wishes to attend Leader Dogs for the Blind Summer Camp Experience which was started by Lions in 1939. Some children are joining Leo Clubs and parents are expressing interest in becoming Lions in a local club.
Our goal is to continue to provide balls to children across Virginia as long as there is a need. As Lions, we cannot think of a better time to meet these children as Lions celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Helen Keller’s Challenge asking Lions to be her “Knights of the Blind”. Together we are impacting the lives of these families, one ball at a time.
