Proud Supporter of Virginia Youth Soccer

VYSA is pleased to announce that Virginia is set to be the first state association to combine previously competing State Cups into a singular event co-hosted by Virginia Youth Soccer and US Club Soccer!

VYSA is grateful to the leadership of US Club Soccer for their collaboration on this project that will provide the soccer clubs, teams and families in Virginia with a best-in-class event. This reimagined State Cup is open to competitive teams registered to VYSA/US Youth Soccer and US Club Soccer. AROUND THE STATE

ODP

VYSA has successfully completed four district ODP tryouts, with the West District tryouts to be rescheduled due to weather. It is exciting to see increased participation in four of the five districts. The coaching staff is looking forward to a wonderful district training season ahead. For anyone who missed the tryout in their district, there are still opportunities to be evaluated. Please reach out to Jessica at jessica@vysa.com for further guidance.

VYSA is pleased to welcome two new district head coaches to the ODP program: Gregg Mottinger, will be leading the Southeast, and Brian Biggio, will be overseeing the Central District.

A special thanks to Sheehy Toyota of Fredericksburg for their generous $5,000 donation, which will support players participating in various ODP events

ODP North District Tryouts

Coaching Education

Over the past few months, VYSA has hosted numerous Coach for Community (C4C) courses across the state These free, two-hour sessions can be tailored to any coaching level your club wants to support. Additionally, there are a large number of Grassroots courses scheduled prior to the fall season. These courses have been designed for coaches involved in 4v4, 7v7, 9v9, and 11v11 formats. The cost has been reduced to increase education opportunities.

VYSA is also focused on identifying, training, and integrating new educators into the coaching education program. Bringing in fresh instructors is essential for strengthening the coach education efforts.

Additionally, VYSA has reduced the costs of the ODP program across the board The tryout fee and the costs for district and state pool training have been lowered when possible.

VYSA recently held a Professional Development Day (PD Day) for 80 Spotsylvania teachers and there is an additional PD Day scheduled next week for the Fairfax County School System. These PD Day clinics offer a significant opportunity to educate teachers and promote soccer within schools

VYSA’s online portion of the National B Coaching License course has begun, with the first in-person session scheduled for mid-September at PVSTC.

In addition, VYSA continues to offer regular club clinics, with a clinic completed last week for the VA Rush travel staff
