Brian Kelly, Fall 2021, Travel Journal

The travel journal was part of the London abroad education. We were assigned to do a minimum of 50 sketches and 6 focus sketches on a selected building. These drawings ranged in mediums and types and were done both in class and in our free time. I have included several of the sketches from the trip in London and around Europe.

9/27/2021 Vauxhall Bridge- London Duration: 1hr @ 12:40 pm To the right is the Vauxhall Bridge where the London skyline is very prominent. The George Wharf Tower can be seen as the tallest building in the sketch- being the 8th tallest building in London and the tallest residential building in the UK.

11/6/2021 Radcliffe Camera- Oxford Duration: 1 hr 40 min @2 pm Above, is an independent sketch of Radcliffe Camera in Oxford, England. The weather was rainy and cold, which made it challenging to sketch. I pulled the base of the building forward and included silhouettes f the surround area to give context and depth.

11/28/2021 Colosseo- Roma Duration: 57 min @ 5:00 pm Above, is a sketch from my independent travel in Europe of the Colosseum in Rome, Italy. I followed the same technique as Radcliffe Camera as it has a similar round base as it’s structure. Comparing the two sketches, the duration of the sketch became shorter as I progressed throughout the semester.
