In addition to our new diamond jewellery, we have extended our portfolio of luxury brands including Messika, Roberto Coin, Mikimoto, Panerai, Jaeger-LeCoultre and Fabergé – who have collaborated with us to design an exclusive Heather Surprise Locket Egg pendant.

We are proud to have recently opened the only standalone Vacheron Constantin boutique north of London, on Frederick Street, Edinburgh, and also opened our brand new prestigious Aberdeen Union Square boutique with an adjoining OMEGA showroom. Plans are underway to partner with more of our Swiss brands in similarly exciting ventures. We continually strive to innovate within luxury, with recent renovations to our Bromley and Warrington boutiques. MIRATEX™: A SUSTAINABLE AND CIRCULAR INNOVATION

With MiraTex™, IWC Schaffhausen is introducing innovative new watch straps made entirely with plants and minerals that do not contain any petrochemicals or plastic*.

As part of its efforts to research and develop new materials, IWC Schaffhausen has continuously expanded its strap and bracelet portfolio to offer customers high quality alternatives to animal leather. The latest breakthrough to the market is the Swiss luxury watch manufacturer’s MiraTex™ straps, which have been developed in close collaboration with Natural Fiber Welding (NFW), a bio-engineering and material innovation company from Peoria, Illinois. IWC’s MiraTex™ straps are made with MIRUM®: a bio-based, low-carbon, completely plastic-free, and recyclable material. IWC understands that luxury consumers increasingly expect brands to show their commitment to sustainability and expect products to be made responsibly and with minimal environmental impact. For this reason, many watch lovers are searching for alternatives to leather straps without compromising quality, durability, or wearing comfort.

THE CHALLENGE OF ACHIEVING THE RIGHT PROPERTIES

One of the many challenges faced when developing IWC’s MiraTex™ straps was selecting the right raw materials to achieve maximum durability and longevity. In addition, the process conditions needed to be finetuned and the surface texture and graining of the material adapted to ensure the straps have precisely the thickness and feel that customers expect. Moreover, different combinations of natural fillers had to be explored and optimised to ensure that MIRUM® could be split to the same thicknesses as leather.

A VERY LOW CARBON FOOTPRINT

IWC’s MiraTex™ straps are not only very durable but also highly sustainable. Since MIRUM® is made from natural materials instead of petroleum and requires no tanning, it has an extremely low carbon footprint. It is much less resource-intensive to produce than animal or synthetic leather. Moreover, the manufacturing process requires no additional water. As a result, no wastewater is generated in the process. MIRUM® is also 100% recyclable and naturally circular. When a MiraTex™ strap has reached its end of life, its biobased material can be recycled into new MIRUM® or returned to the earth without causing pollution.

The devil is in their detailed dials; the Japanese brand takes a moment to explain the design principles behind their timepieces.

Grand Seiko Japanese watchmaking is entirely unique; their timepieces are handcrafted by Takumi craftspeople whose work is never done, constantly striving to make the most accurate, beautiful and legible watch possible

A FRAMEWORK FOR DESIGN: EVOLUTION 9

‘Evolution 9’ is a new collection of Grand Seiko timepieces. They represent a framework of beauty; a design guide created for and by Grand Seiko engineers. This kind of design ‘grammar’ is a tradition for the brand since the design team realised in 1967 that watches with sharper angles and distortionfree surfaces “sparkle with quality” and needed the brilliance of light.

THE LIGHTNESS OF BEAUTY

Light and shadow are founding stones of Japanese aesthetics. Their balance stretches across the Japanese appreciation of beauty, from architecture to gardens to art. Their harmonies and contradictions across the watch dial are carefully engineered to make the face of a Grand Seiko legible and calming.

ENGINEERING STYLE FOR NOW

Though the ‘Evolution 9’ collection pulls from Grand Seiko’s past, namely the ‘Grand Seiko Style’ first embodied by the iconic 44GS from 1967, it is a new, forward-thinking approach to Grand Seiko’s contemporary design language.

The number 9 is used in the naming of all modern in-house created Grand Seiko calibres – 9F Quartz, 9S Mechanical and 9R Spring Drive - and is centrepoint of the new Evolution 9 Collection.

9 in Japanese is pronounced ‘kyu,’ and it is the represented by kanji symbol . But another kanji symbol is also pronounced ‘kyu,’ and it translates as “the ultimate.”

This homophonous link between ‘9’ and ‘the ultimate’ emphasises this new collection as a continuation of the watchmaker’s quest for the pinnacle of precision, legibility, durability, and beauty.

The design features to look out for in the collection are:

EVOLUTION IN AESTHETICS

Light and shadow gradations through flat Zaratsu polished surfaces combined with hairline finishing bring out the Japanese sense of beauty and nature that lies at the heart of the Grand Seiko Style.

EVOLUTION IN LEGIBILITY

The hands and indexes have evolved to become even more distinctive, with their inspiration coming from the first Grand Seiko created in 1960. The hands are bold and multifaceted and the indexes are powerfully three-dimensional.

EVOLUTION IN COMFORT

The crown guard to reduce damage, and the improved crown shape ensure an easier grip. The case and bracelet in high-intensity titanium, are a lightweight wear. The case’s center of gravity is low and the curved lugs are wide allowing a comfortable fit.

THE REVERSO: TIMELESS STORIES SINCE 1931

LAUNCHED DURING THE ART DECO ERA, JAEGER-LECOULTRE’S REVERSO IS AN ICONIC EXAMPLE OF 20TH CENTURY WATCH DESIGN.

HISTORY OF THE ‘GRANDE MAISON’

The LeCoultre story began in 1833 when self-taught watchmaker Antoine LeCoultre set up his own workshop after inventing a pinion-cutting machine. This invention was to be followed by dozens of others, as well as hundreds of patents, each of which contributed to forging the international reputation of Swiss watchmaking. The small workshop grew so fast that it was soon nicknamed the ‘Grande Maison ’(big house) in the Swiss Vallée de Joux.

In 1903 a meeting between Frenchman Edmond Jaeger and Jacques-David LeCoultre (grandson of Antoine) changed watchmaking forever. Jaeger was a renowned French watchmaker based in Paris who supplied chronometers to the French Navy. A genius inventor and stylish figure, he challenged the Swiss watch manufacturers to produce an ultra-thin movement of his own design. Together, Edmond and Jacques-David established Jaeger-LeCoultre, successfully fusing French style and Swiss technique, an approach that still prevails at the worldrenowned watchmaker today.

HERITAGE: BORN OUT OF A CHALLENGE

In 1930, businessman César de Trey was challenged by British Army officers in India to find a way of protecting the glass of their watches as they played polo. His idea was inspired—a case that could be flipped over. He approached his friend, Jacques-David LeCoultre, to produce the watch and the pair engaged French engineer René-Alfred Chauvot to design it. Eager to get the revolutionary design to market as soon as possible, de Trey and Jacques-David LeCoultre set up a business partnership and began production in 1931. And so the Reverso was born.

DESIGN: THE SWIVELLING CONCEPT OF TIME

The Reverso is a true original. It is time re-imagined with care and technical mastery with an exquisite swivelling case design that captivates attention. From the start, the Reverso was radically innovative in both its fundamental concept and the engineering of the intricate mechanism that enabled the case to be turned over and locked into place. Born at the height of the luxurious Art Deco age, the Reverso remains true to its refined sense of shape, epitomising the spirit of its time. Its poised rectangular geometry and clean lines draw attention to the piece’s unique horizontal gadroons and alluring straps.

CALIBRE: A RECTANGULAR HEART

Jaeger-LeCoultre’s watchmakers reinvented the shape of calibres from circular to rectangular, responding to the challenge brought about by the shape of the Reverso. The collection is a triumph of form and function brought together in perfect harmony. Today, more than 50 calibres have been developed for the Reverso range, each one made and built by Jaeger-LeCoultre’s master watchmakers in the Vallée de Joux.

REVERSE ENGINEERING: A BLANK CANVAS

Designed to respond to a practical need, the back of the Reverso is a blank canvas for personalised enamelling, engraving or miniature painting. The collection’s swivelling back also offers the choice of a second dial, providing a dual expression of time either with an additional time-zone (Duoface) or another style of the same time-zone (Duetto).

TIMELESS ELEGANCE, INTRICATE COMPLEXITY

The Reverso’s case is the embodiment of pure elegance, crafted from over 50 individual components. A truly iconic piece that celebrates its Art Deco heritage, the Reverso remains ahead of its time. Aesthetic variations began to appear soon after its launch with coloured dials made to order in bright red, chocolate brown, burgundy or blue lacquer. The sleek design of the Reverso has evolved with the times without ever losing sight of its original iconic design.

Since its launch in 1931, the Reverso has created many timeless stories, adorning the wrists of Hollywood stars, pioneering artists, sporting icons and British monarchs, establishing it as the jewel in the Jaeger-LeCoultre crown. Throughout its 91 year history, the Reverso has always been so much more than a watch. It doesn’t just measure time; it creates moments in history.
