The second movement, "The Flame Serene," invokes literal air and breath to help portray the enduring nature of flame as a metaphor for remembrance. A blending of Asian influences and American fiddle music characterizes the final movement, "Flight of the Fireflies," the perpetual melody drives the ensemble, capturing the energy of flight and portraying a night sky lit by hundred of fireflies.
