Lady Angelina Chinyere Ekeocha was born into the respected family of Late Nze John Nwaneto and Late Lolo Priscilla Mezieuwa Madu of Umuovum Ulakwo ( previously in Obube ). Her parents were among the very few young couples who were wedded at Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Emekuku by Rev. Fr. Cloonan, before living together. Being the first grandchild, both paternal and maternal, she was surrounded with so much love, joy, happiness, and care. This was the foundation of her life of caring, selfless giving, joy, unconditional love, and happiness, even till she breathed her last.
EDUCATION AND CAREER
Lady Angelina's mother, Mma Priscilla, lived briefly in the convent to be tutored by the Holy Rosary Sisters at Emekuku in preparation for marriage. Her father, Papa John, was known for decency and a bit of class. Little wonder then that Mama was registered at the Holy Rosary School, Ulakwo, at a very tender age. She was there till standard 5 before proceeding to Holy Rosary School Ogbor Nguru, Mbaise, for her standard 6. As was the practice then, those who excelled were sent to Teachers' Training Colleges, while the others were sent to more practical/ vocation schools like nursing, midwifery, domestic science, etc.
So, young Angelina was sent to TTC Onitsha , from where she transferred to Mount Carmel TTC Emekuku, where she obtained her Teachers' Grade 3 certificate, a.k.a TC3. She said she was so small that during practicals, the Rev. Sisters used to bring a small stool for her to stand on to be able to write on the blackboard.
Although she got married immediately after leaving the TTC and also had many children, her love for education never changed. So, she later went back for what she used to call "Completion Course" at St. Joseph's TTC Aba for her TC2 . Finally, she went to the Federal College of Education, Pankshin, Plateau State, where she obtained her ACE ( Associate Certificate of Education). Thus, she fulfilled her dream of having a picture of herself wearing an academic gown just like her late husband and eight children, all graduates, wearing academic gowns, hanging in the sitting room.
Mama was a career teacher with so much love for her pupils. Being a mission trained teacher, all her postings were to Catholic primary schools until the government took over schools . She taught in places like Obudi Agwa,
NNEOMA,LADY(LOLO)ANGELINAEKEOCHA(LSM) (1937
-2025)
Ejemekwuru, Umuguma , Avu, Umuekwune Ngor, Ngwoma Obube, Ulakwo etc, before the outbreak of the civil war. She said she used to be the only trained female teacher in all these places. So she was the barber, hygiene mistress, seamstress, choir mistress, etc. Thereafter , she taught again at St. Joseph's School Ulakwo, Primary School Amakohia-ubi, etc. She finally retired as a Head Teacher Grade one from Community School , Egbelu Obube.
FAMILY AND RELIGIOUS LIFE
At a time when educated young girls were not many, fresh from TTC , young Angelina ( Angelina of the Angels, as she said Sr. Mary Colman used to call her) at the tender age of 19 years, wedded our father, Late Patrick Ekeocha, a very promising young teacher then, in 1956. This union was blessed with the ceremonial "igbu ewu ukwu", i.e they were blessed with ten children. Eight survived to adulthood and, by the special grace of God, are here to bid her farewell. Through our growing up years, our house was always full of young boys and girls, children of relations and friends, who wanted their children to be trained by our parents. No matter who or how many people lived with us, it was usually that same one big pot of soup or stew for all, no discrimination of any sort. The death of her husband in 1992 dealt a big blow on her, but being a woman of prayer, she waded through the storm and was there for all of us till her passing.
Her very active religious life stemmed from her deep love and trust in "Jesus na Nne ya," i.e., Jesus and His Mother. The lessons drawn especially from the story of the wedding in Cana in Galilee( John 2:1-11), the five Joyful mysteries in particular, and all the mysteries of holy Rosary, formed the bedrock of her faith in God . No day passed without her reciting many decades of the rosary. According to her, each decade was dedicated to each of her children and their families.
In the 1970s, after the civil war, when the expatriate/ Irish Priest had left, there was a shortage of priests in the diocese. The whole nine villages of Obube were a station under St. Mary's Catholic Parish, Obibi-ezena. Late Angelina was the station secretary to the Catholic Women Organization (CWO) of Obube Station . With the creation of SS Peter and Paul Parish Egbelu Obube, she served as the vice president of the CWO and was the treasurer to the Parish Pastoral Council at various times. She was a very strong member of the Legion of Mary, a veteran Lector and a great supporter of the choir. In the Order of the Knights of St Mulumba, she rose to the rank of the 4th Degree level as a Lady of St Mulumba (LSM). She received the revered award of Nneoma-Arch, which was only awarded to a few women who made up the millennium set.
NNEOMA,LADY(LOLO)ANGELINAEKEOCHA(LSM) (1937-2025)
SOCIAL AND COMMUNITY LIFE
Late Angelina Ekeocha had a kind of charisma that tended to draw people to her. She loved to search for relations many generations back to bring them close. She loved picking up those children who are almost written off and nurturing them until they become responsible, respected individuals.
She was a good community leader, a grassroot mobilizer at every political dispensation, getting the women to come out en masse and cast their votes. She was the President of Ugochinyere Women's Association , Egbelu Obube, and led the women to come home with laurels at the then famous ONCOWAS.
Her Ugochinyere dancing troop was a group to be reckoned with at any dancing competition in Owerri North LGA then. She was the pioneer President of Udokanma Women's Association, Umuokpaa, Egbelu Obube, among several other leadership positions held. She was a founding member of Obube Native Teachers' Association (ONTA) and a member of Obube Social Club.
MAMA'S LAST DAYS
Mama spent her last years living with her first daughter, Dr. Mrs. Maria Opara(FPSN, LAKSJI) at Umuawuka Emii. Our sister played her roles both as the Ada and a seasoned clinical pharmacist very well, and with each and everyone of her children also playing their roles, Mama enjoyed a beautiful ageing process despite some age related health challenges. If she was not entertaining visitors, she spent the greater percentage of her time praying the rosary or communing with her God . She always recounted her open vision where Jesus took her and showed her her beautiful mansion in heaven. According to her, the mansion was completed but remained painting. She said that Jesus promised to come for her whenever the painting was completed and that she would just follow Him. Probably, that was what happened. Her transition was like the snap of the finger, so peaceful, so swift. Her happiest days were on Sundays when she would dress up in her best Sunday outfits with matching headgears and even shoes to attend Mass at Lumen Christi TV. After her 8:30am Mass, she would watch all other programs until Divine Mercy hour by 3:00pm , before she would leave. Her other great moments were interacting with the many Rev. Fathers that used to visit her, or say the family Rosary, and then singing Marian hymns from Assumpta Hymnal.
NNEOMA,LADY(LOLO)ANGELINAEKEOCHA(LSM) (1937-
2025)
Mama loved all her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren unconditionally without discrimination or preferences. She held nothing back in giving and blessing. All of us were at different times showered with her generational blessings.
Nneoma- Arch, Lolo Angelina Chinyere Ekeocha (LSM), you came, you saw, you conquered . You lived a fulfilled life . You used your days of ill health to prepare yourself to meet your Redeemer. Your exclamation was always "My redeemer liveth." No doubt , you are with the saints in heaven smiling down on us. May your beautiful soul continue to rest in peace, Amen.

TRIBUTE TO MY BELOVED MOTHER, LADY, LOLO, NNEOMA(ARCH) ANGELINA CHINYERE EKEOCHA(LSM).
Mama, you survived the period I thought you had decided with your creator to join Him. This time, you quietly slept off after having your meal and that was it. You are happily going to meet your cherished husband, Chief, Sir Patrick N. Ekeocha (KSM), who you survived for thirty three (33)years. Having you as a mother is a great blessing to me. Your tutelage from childhood influenced my decisions in life. I will surely miss you. My consolation is that, you are with our Lord in Heaven, based on the trance stories you told some of your children and friends.
Adieu, Mama. We shall meet, to depart no more.
Your First Son, Anthony A. Ekeocha (KSM).
A TRIBUTE TO A MOTHER LIKE NO OTHER
My mother, my friend, my confidant, my counsellor, my encourager, my prayer and singing partner, my companion, and more!
I thank God for making you my mother. Everything we are, every virtue we possess, are all from God through you and our father, Late Chief P.N Ekeocha (KSM). Papa died over 33 years ago, so it's been you all this while. You were there for all of us, but especially for me for the past 10+ years when life's tragedy struck. We became so close, especially in the almost five years you lived with me before you passed on.
You were brought up with so much love, care, laughter, and appreciation. That was what you brought into our lives from when we were born till you breathed your last. Your foundation of a life of prayer in all situations was so solid. You prayed about anything and everything, teaching us to pray without ceasing.
You had a relationship with our father that made marriage sweet, pulling your meagre resources together without holding back, happily, and joyfully building a dynasty and achieving what even billionaires could not achieve. That was what you taught us. You gave your all (your time, talent, and treasure) to serve God and the church, welcoming His ministers so freely and sharing all you had with the poor and the needy. That was what we saw you do all the time. You were always eager for the sacraments, and I thank my Rev. Father friends who ensured you had enough of them, in season and out of season.

I thank God for the opportunity to live with you during your last years/days on earth, to share your ageing moments with you, and to give you the best pharmaceutical care ever. What a rare privilege! You appreciated every little service rendered by us, your children, and grandchildren, directly or by proxy. You cherished those video calls with your great-grandchildren, Mimi and Onyii. Your mouth was full of blessings for all who came across you. You've been ready for quite some time waiting for Jesus Christ to come for you. You always said that you would not look back if He called you to follow Him home. Probably, He showed up that fateful Sunday afternoon, and that was why your transition was so swift. I believe you're now at peace in that Heavenly mansion that you always talked about, singing hymns with the angels and interceding for us.
Laa n'udo Lolo Óchíríòzùó 1 of Obudi Agwa.
Rest in peace, millennium Nneoma- Arch.
Sleep well, long-time-4th Degree Lady of the Knights of St. Mulumba.(nde Lady anyi as you loved to call them).
Mama de Maama, nwanyi obi oma, your Ada Patty, Onyericha Patiik, your Pharmacist that you gave every level of encouragement till I obtained my Doctor of Pharmacy, I bid you farewell. That I'll miss you is an understatement, but my consolation is in these words you used to say, "My Redeemer Liveth".

MY TRIBUTES TO MAMA...
Mama...!!
Where do I start from and where do I end it up?
Yes, death is inevitable but it has truly done its worst at this time. I would be the last person to expect death to visit you on that fatal Sunday afternoon of the 6th day of April, 2025. My wife and I were on our way to have lunch with you at Maria's house without knowing that we would meet you lying down lifeless.
My consolation is that you lived a true Christian life, worthy of emulation and you showed all of your children the best of love and way to Christ. I am convinced that you are at the right hand of God in His kingdom where you are now among the Saints and interceding for us.
Mama, rest in peace until we meet to part no more...
Goodbye, Mama...!!!

TRIBUTE/FAREWELL SPEECH TO MY ONE AND ONLY MAMA.
Mama, I will first of all thank God for giving you to us “UMU P.N”. You were a very strong and courageous woman, always taking the bull by the horns, a disciplinarian that disciplined with love. You never joked with your religion even at your last days. You taught me the efficacy of the Rosary (Chaplet) and today I'm proud to say that l can't do without my Rosary. With your meagre salary as teachers, you and Papa gave eight of us the best. Today, we give glory to God that we are all standing to bid you farewell. You made me understand what ''marriage" is all about. I hold firmly to it, no matter the "thorns," because I know that I'll exchange it someday for a "crown." I thank God that all of us were always there for you when your bones started aging. I thank God for your peaceful transition. You were telling us the stages of your house in heaven right from the foundation to when it was plastered, but you didn't tell us when it was painted and you simply parked in. No doubt, the angels in heaven have welcomed you with gladness. Sleep on Mama De Mama till we meet to part no more. You are forever our Mom. Pray and intercede for us. You left wonderful legacies that MUST be upheld.
Mama, mkpuru obi gi zuo ike na ndokwa. Amen.

Your gentle smile, guidance and warm hugs will forever be cherished. Your strength, resilience, and faith in God inspire me daily. I’ll carry your love, lessons, and memories with me always. A TRIBUTE TO MAMA, NNEOMA ANGELINA CHINYERE EKEOCHA
Today, I find myself reflecting on the extraordinary life of Mama, Nneoma Angelina Ekeocha, a woman of deep faith, unwavering strength, and boundless love. A baptized Catholic (who practiced and upheld the Catholic faith until she took her last breath) and a devoted servant of God, who embodied grace and compassion in every aspect of her life.
As a teacher, Mama, you not only imparted knowledge but also inspired countless minds with your dedication and wisdom. You taught me to love God and cherish the people around me, instilling in me the values that continue to guide my life. Your lessons extended beyond the classroom as you gave me the reason to work hard, pursue my dreams, and strive for excellence in all that I do.
After Papa passed away 33 years ago, you courageously stepped into the roles of both father and mother, providing us with unwavering support and unconditional love. Your resilience and selflessness were nothing short of remarkable. You were my pillar of strength, my guiding light, and my greatest source of comfort.
Mama, your legacy is one of faith, love, and perseverance. You lived life with purpose, touching the hearts of everyone fortunate enough to know you. Though you are no longer physically with us, your spirit remains alive in my heart and in the lives of those you inspired.
Rest peacefully, Mama, knowing that your love and teachings will forever be cherished.

She is not just my wife's mother—she is a mother to me in every sense. Her kindness, humility, and unwavering love have left a lasting imprint on my heart. I honour and cherish her, always.

A MAGNIFICENT ANGEL IN HEAVEN
It is a big understatement to say that I lack the words and space to express how I feel about your passing. The news came as a shock to me and my family, especially since we had talked on the phone just days before. Even though we knew that the end would come someday, it still came as a big surprise. You are now free from the debility and pain that lately assaulted and weakened your flesh, but never dampened your spirit.
You were the foundation, the pillar, the glue that held our family together. You were always there during life’s highs and lows, hurts and happiness. You were there for me, initially through your letters (which I called Epistles), and later through telephone calls to console, counsel, and encourage me at every stage of my life. Those cherished Epistles always started with “My dear Chisaraokwu” and ended with “With Love, Ndaa gi”.
You might be gone from our sights, but your spirit lives on within all that knew you. I still recall our last conversation days before you transitioned to the Lord. We recounted memories from my early childhood; the many holidays I spent at Umuokpaa and Obudi Agwa. How, as newlyweds, you and Ndaa Patty used to have me sleep between the two of you so that I won’t roll off the bed or hit myself against the wall. You leave us to reunite with him, and I know both of you will continue to watch and guide your children from heaven above.
My wife, children and I will forever love you dearly and owe you a debt of gratitude for what you meant in our lives. You were not just an aunt, but a grandmother to my children, and a mentor and counselor to my wife and me. I will never see that reassuring sparkle in your eyes or your welcoming smile again, nor will I feel your comforting embrace, or hear your consoling voice again. We will miss you every day for the rest of our lives, but your love will sustain us. Though I wish you were still here with us, but God apparently needs a magnificent angel by His side at this moment. Go therefore, Ndaa, and rest among the angels.
Your loving brother, Dr. Anthony

TRIBUTE TO A QUEEN MOTHER (AN IMPACTFUL PERSONALITY)
Dear Mama, My Ebony Beauty of a Grandma. A woman with such a smile and laughter that shows off her diastema and lit up a room. To have known you was to have loved you, Mama. You were virtuous and one of inestimable values. The Grandma who literally encouraged us (her grandchildren) to interact with other people. I'm grateful for how you loved me. I'm grateful for our little whispers/gists and big conversations, the throwback stories, your warm hugs, your advices, prayers and how beautiful you saw me every single time. Throughout my school days, my friends always wondered at how I talked about my family at large and how close my cousins and I are. I usually answered with showering praises to you because you were that rock on which our bond was built.
Ohhh! How I love to visit the village. I believe my sibling and cousins are in the same shoe.
Thank you for being a great source of humour, sweetness and close-knit bond. My Dad (Opee Gi) and siblings took after you and have passed it on to us, your generation.
Truly, the death of our loved ones reminds us of the thousand and one more thing we could have done with and for them. I'd miss you dearly Mama.

Dearest Mama,
You were such a Rare Gem. Your love was so pure and a gentle constant embrace. You taught me kindness, not just with words, but through your way of life; always giving, always patient, and always present. While away from you (before you passed on), the memories of Christmas and Easter Celebrations spent in the village always brought the nostalgic feeling to return home to you the following year’s Christmas and Easter. You were the heart of the entire family. Every now and then, we wanted to see that heart, hear her and touch her. Now, I wonder who I will see and say, “Wow! Mama is strong”, “See Daddy’s lookalike. Wow!”, or who I will hear her warm, soft voice telling me interesting stories of life and its beauty. Whom shall I will touch and she’d hold me tight with the love of a Grandma. I miss you deeply, Mama and it hurts more that my plans to see you this Easter after over two (2) years didn’t become a reality. I take it that God had better plans. He has taken you to the best place anyone could ever be, and I really hope and pray I get to meet you there someday. Thank you so much, Mama for being a role model to all your children and grandchildren; for being a blessing to me, the whole Sir Patrick N. Ekeocha family, and everyone around you. Dad always tells me how much of a super wife and mum you were; always making sure things were in order, and your children never lacked. Mum always tells me how she’s so lucky to have had a magnificent mother-in-law like you; who’s always blessing her and supporting her.
For my dear cousins, sister and I, we miss having you around. We already miss talking about the popular July 4th when the world heard the first cry of the beauty, Mama Ange. Mama, I’d miss the fact that whenever the holidays came to an end and we journeyed to our various residencies, you’d always give us something beautiful individually. Thank you so much for these wonderful memories. They bring you back, and I will hold them tight. I miss you deeply, Mama. With love and gratitude,

MAMA: A GRANDDAUGHTER'S EULOGY
How do you say goodbye to a special someone, so irreplaceable?
We can very easily describe mama by the height of her faith, prayer life and relationship with God, and how that shaped her relationships throughout life. She had previously said to me: 'a shi m Chineke biakwala duu ngaa m'agwa Ya uka'.
Even as a grandchild, I was fortunate to share moments across nearly half of mama's lifetime with her, and the better part of the last decade with my own nuclear family.
Mama's ready wise words have steadily accompanied me through life. I can tell stories unend about when she paid a surprise visit to me for my visiting day, while I was in the boarding house; about our conversations as I made marriage decisions; about sleep training and weaning my babies and about her never missing a chance to give gifts (my first safe, handmade outfits, jewelries, fabrics, pots as my wedding gift, food stuff etc.).
Distance never waned our relationship, she was firm, yet kind and her smiles and hearty laughter was ever reassuring.
As with so many family members, my husband and I received the news of mama's passing with a weight of mixed feelings - gratitude for the life she lived and our privilege to share a part of it her, and simultaneously, a huge sense of loss as we reflect on her life with nostalgia. But then, I can imagine her saying to us, 'Hiii nu bee kpii, owu akwa?
Ngwa ozuola nu'. So, we choose, even in the moments of quiet tears, to celebrate the incredibly impactful life she lived, her perseverance and her sense of humour till the end.
Rest well, mama. Rest in the Lord till we meet again.
Nonye (Grand Daughter) & Nnamdi Amatobi and Family.
A TRIBUTE TO MY 4TH DEGREE GRANDMOTHER (MAMA DE MAMA)
Today, I stand here not just as a grieving grandson, but as someone who was deeply blessed to have known a woman as extraordinary as my Mama (as we fondly call her). Her love was quiet but powerful — woven into every meal she cooked during our early holiday days as kids at my maternal home, Umuokpaa, every story she told, every prayer she whispered for us when she thought no one was listening.

Mama wasn’t just the heart of our family—she was our history, our strength, and our home. She has a special name for almost every grand and great grandchild in the family. I will never forget the way she smiled when we walked through the door, as if nothing in the world mattered more than our presence. Her hugs were warm, comforting, and somehow made the world feel a little less heavy. During her later ageing years at our home, I could remember vividly her spiritual routine of dressing for the occasion to attend Sunday Mass on television on Lumen Christi TV channel, during that 8:30am mass nothing essence matters, no distractions are welcome, she’s at full concentration at the Mass, as much as everyone at the physical parish attending same service. Sometimes, I used to tease her during offering to collect her offerings. You could tell this mattered most to her.
She taught me values that no book could—kindness, patience, humility, and unconditional love. She showed me the power of resilience and grace, even in the face of hardship and difficulty. Her wisdom will echo in my choices, her laughter and smile in my memories, and her love in my heart for the rest of my life.
Losing Mama feels like losing a part of myself, but I know she lives on in every good thing she touched. She’d be seen in the way I care for others, in the stories I’ll pass down, and in the quiet moments when I’ll still feel her near. Rest well, Mama, my entire family (Jessica and Kaeto) still and will miss you forever. Thank you for everything. I will carry your love with me, always. With all my heart, Barrister Emeka Opara (Your Grandson)
TRIBUTE TO MAMA
Dear Mama, I have been doing my best to believe that you are still with us on earth. Heaven has gained another saint. Mama, you lived a fulfilled life in Christ, raising your children in the ways of God, and by His mercy, they made you proud. You were privileged to see your great-grandchildren, and you were always there for others, offering support, advice, and being a blessing to all who met you.
Thank you for supporting my journey to government college in Owerri in 1998. You bought me a pair of jeans and a white shirt to encourage me, assuring me that coming from the village would not be a barrier to achieving greater heights. Your encouragement throughout my time in medical school meant the world to me.

I am also grateful for your daughter, my mom, who is a virtuous woman like you. She raised us with so much love, sacrifice, and support, which she received from you as her mother. This ensured that we continue to uphold your legacy. You will be greatly missed, Grandma. Continue to rest in Heaven with our Lord Jesus Christ. Rest in peace, Mama.

Mama dey Mama. I know I will be writing this someday, but I never knew it would be this soon. I am glad to have had you as my grandma. I cherish all the time I spent with you. Your words of advice will always be with me. I am glad you met Ihuoma and Onyinyechi (ulu ọcha nka N'ezi). They cried heavily when they heard you've left us. I have so much to say, but I lack words to put them together. You lived a life worthy of emulation. We will forever miss you. Go in peace.

Mama, Nne Nne m. I have decided to come and return Gratitude to God for giving me the opportunity to experience life with you. You have always been a strong pillar of encouragement and Prayer. Mama, you have shown us all that God blesses his own.
At this moment, I pray that the good examples you have sown in our lives will continue to manifest throughout our lives. For the many blessings you showered upon me and my family, we are grateful. My husband and daughter are saying, ‘Laa nke oma.

TRIBUTE TO A BELOVED GRANDMOTHER
Life is a journey, and death is where we rest. But the hardest part of it all is accepting the void left behind. I won’t hear her call me “Nwa-Chineke”, reminding me of whose child I am.
NNEOMA,LADY(LOLO)ANGELINAEKEOCHA(LSM) (1937-2025)
Tributes
No more stretching out my palms to receive her heartfelt prayers and blessings, spoken with a sincerity that only she could give. I’ll never again watch her reach for her purse, then squeeze money into my hands, followed by her remarks of encouragement, “jishimakwa ike, gbalima, echefulakwala Chineke”!
Maaama the maaama!!, Nneoma Arch!! This is how most people would call out in sheer excitement upon visiting her. Of course, she had special names for virtually everyone, with my all-time favourite being “Onye ericha Patricki”, specially reserved for my mum. Looking back, I now realize what a privilege it was – not just to be raised by her daughter but also the rare gift of growing up around her, learning from her wisdom and listening to her words of advice and encouragement. Mama was a soul full of joy and light. Her faith in God, devotion to the Church and trust in Our Lady were never shaken by age or life’s challenges. Even as she could not always attend Mass and other activities physically, she stayed connected to her faith, regularly streaming Lumen Christi Catholic TV and appearing in full regalia as the occasion required, with her missal, bible, rosary and holy water never far from her. She always wanted the radio on, never missing the news, and was eager to go through the dailies whenever she could. Even in her later years, she remained informed about Church activities, politics and societal events.
Somehow, the day we lay her to rest is the same day I’ve always known as my own. Now it will forever carry a new significance, a reminder that her legacy will always be part of mine. Though her body rests, Mama’s spirit lives on – in our hearts, in our prayers, in the lives she touched with love, wisdom and faith. Continue to rest in peace Mama.

MY GRANDMOTHER: A LIFE OF GRACE AND WISDOM
If I had to describe Mama in one word, it would be grace; grace in her actions, in how she spoke, and most of all, in the way she loved. She wasn't just my grandmother; she was a sanctuary, a teacher, a prayer warrior, and the bedrock of our entire family.

From the earliest days of my life, her hands were always there, sometimes firm, sometimes soft, but always sure. Whether she was offering words of advice, correcting me when I was wrong, or laying her hand gently on my shoulder during tough moments, her words had the power to inspire me and push me to be better. I still hear her voice echo: “Nnanyere,” as she affectionately named me, “God will always lead you through”. Mama had a special kind of magic. She could turn an ordinary day into something euphoric with nothing more than her laughter and stories from “back in the day”. She was clothed in faith, rising early to pray for each of us by name, even when her knees ached and her voice grew tired. And oh, how she prayed, even in her old age, never wavering. Mama didn’t leave this world quietly; she left it full. Full of memories, lessons, love, and legacy. She left the world better than she found it, and she left me better than she found me.
Thank you, Mama, for being the guiding light of the family. Thank you for every hug, every word of wisdom, and every moment of laughter. I will carry you with me always, not just in my heart, but in the way I live, love, and lead.
Rest well, Ndaa Agienna. You ran your race with grace and now, you live forever in us.

As a firm disciplinarian you instilled in me a strong sense of responsibility, respect, and perseverance. Most importantly, you taught me to make prayer a foundation of my life, leading by example with your unwavering faith in God and devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Through you, I learned that faith is not just a ritual but a way of life. Mama, your life was a testament to virtue, strength, and love. Your influence remains a guiding light in my life, and I am grateful for the gift of having you as my grandmother and for the blessings you brought to our family. I thank you, Mama, for the gift of my mother, my supportive uncles and aunts.

Your last few words to me were "Chuka, agụụ gi agugbola m, Olee mgba m ga ihu gi ozo? and I told you not to worry that we shall see anytime I come back to the east. You said ok, jishie ike gbalima n'ọrụ gi, jideshie Chineke aka ike, O wu aha nwanne gị nwoko Jide Chukwu. Ahafukwala ya (Chineke). As if you knew that would be my last conversation with you, you handed me over to God, who is too faithful to fail me to continue taking care of me.
Yes, one of the best things that ever happened to me is being a member of P.N. Ekeocha's clan, a rare privilege to be your grandson. Thank you for loving us your children, grandchildren and great grandchildren unconditionally. On several occasions, you proved the love you had for us in your actions
TI still vividly remember a single act of love you exuded the day I came back from Lagos to Owerri immediately after my NYSC in 2023. Because of unforeseen circumstances, I got to Owerri by 11:30pm before Aunty Maria and Bro Chibueze came to pick me up at the park. You were asked to go and sleep and you said no "I won't sleep until I see my grandson, Chuka". Just because of me, you deprived yourself your precious sleep at that late hour of the night at your old age. You patiently sat in the parlour waiting for us to enter. On hearing my voice, you exclaimed “Is that my Chuka?” You hugged me so warmly and said "now that I have seen you and sure that you're at home I can now go and sleep". What a love!!!

Mama, your love, wisdom, and legacy continue to inspire me every day. I’m forever grateful for the discipline you instilled in me as it has shaped me into the woman, daughter, wife and mum I am today. Your faith, kindness, and generosity towards others are qualities I strive to emulate. Your affection for my spouse, our children (your precious great-grandchildren) and I warmed our hearts. Your thoughtful gestures like buying treats (yummy snacks) for my siblings and I up even till last year Christmas holiday has left lasting memories. I cherish sharing those blessings (treats/snacks) with my own children. You fondly called me Meme Ocheze. Your prayers over our lives have been a source of strength and comfort. I’m blessed and proud to come from your lineage. Though you’re no longer with us, your impact remains. I miss you dearly and wish for one more moment together.

THE ONE WHO YOU NAMED CHIZITEREM
I don’t think I’d ever forget that sunny Sunday afternoon my mum said to me in tears, “Mama is late”. I asked myself, “the same person I spoke to on Mother’s Day?”
Everything still feels surreal. I will miss your warmth whenever we came visiting, your special prayers whenever we were returning back, the gifts you always packaged for us (your grandchildren) anytime a family member was returning to Lagos. My mother always told us to take it as our share of blessings. You were definitely someone we all looked up to as a family. As much as I’m deeply saddened, I’m happy you finally get to rest from the pains and hardships of this world in the presence of the Angels. I know you’re watching over every single one of us from heaven and we’ll continue praying for you, every day.

TRIBUTE TO MY LOVELY MAMA
Knowing that you are gone for good is a reality I am still finding difficult to accept. I know you are in a happier place now, resting with the Lord. I am comforted with the fact that you would not have to go through any pain again. You were a strong and prayerful woman. While growing up, coming to the village was something we all looked up to because we got to see our cheerful old grandma and our other cousins. You would always share a gift to every child that came around you during the Christmas period. When it was time to go, we would all cry because we missed you and the village.
My bond with you grew stronger in 2022, when we moved to Owerri. How I would help you dress and prepare for the day. Even at old age, you were still a devoted Catholic. You always watched Mass and anchored the May and October devotion when we prayed as a family. I remember sharing the news of my admission into the university with you first. Anytime you prayed for me you would always call me “Ada puru iche”. I’mglad I was able to spend time with you before I returned to school this year. I would really miss you Mama. The Good Lord would comfort us as a family.
Continue to rest in the bosom of the Lord Mama. I love you.

A TRIBUTE TO OUR GRAND-AUNT
Nda Angie, the news of your passing a week after Mother’s Day evoked very sad emotions immediately. We (my siblings and I) had just watched that beautiful video where your eldest daughter, Nda Maria, was showering you with the love and appreciation you so richly deserved on Mother’s Day 2025. Your exit from this earth was without warning or struggle, which further shows the tranquil nature in which you lived your life. My siblings and I were always eager to visit you when traveling home during the Christmas season. Perhaps the most memorable visit was in January 2024, when I along with my Dad (your nephew), my Mom, and my Grandma (your immediate younger sister - Nda Julie), paid a visit to you and your eldest daughter. I vividly recall how happy you and my grandma were to see each other, as she called you, “Ada John”, as you were the eldest daughter of late Nze John and Lolo Priscilla Madu, my great grandparents. I will forever cherish the video I have of your blessing that you bestowed on me that day. You were indeed a woman of God. You lived a great life and touched so many people. Your children, grandchildren, and even great children will surely follow in your footsteps. We love and miss you dearly mama. Rest in everlasting peace with our Heavenly Father.
Farewell Nda Angie.

A TRIBUTE IN HONOUR OF LADY ANGELINA CHINYERE EKEOCHA
We deeply regret that we had not the opportunity or privilege to bid you farewell before the cold hands of death snatched you away from us. You and your late husband sponsored our Church wedding in July 1969. You have gone to stay with your maker. You lived a well-fulfilled life. Creditably, you mounted on the leadership of the Pat-Angel-Ekeocha family when your loving husband left the scene.
Chinyere, you saw to it that the eight children (four of each sex) in the family, had the best of training in education- physically, morally, socially, and academically. You died a heroine in every aspect of life.
Now resting comfortably in the bosom of the Almighty Father, we pray you to intercede for your family, host of friends, and well-wishers still struggling on earth and in purgatory. May your faithful soul rest in the Lord. Amen.

ADIEU MOTHER INLAW LADY ANGLINA EKEOCHA
That afternoon, you were warm and smiling but quietly departing to the other side. We were perplexed just like the apostles watching the ascension of Jesus Christ into heaven. We kept vigil for some hours but you were gone forever. We are consoled that you lived the life of hard work and love and inspired all with smiles from the heart. I often had the pleasure to arouse the stories of your life and I listened to your soft angelic voice. We were close like the best of friends and like mother and son. You offered all that you could to make me happy. You kept refreshments in anticipation of my visits and continued with this hospitality throughout your stay in the house of your daughter, Maria. Memories of you would continue to give me joy. Thank you Nneoma Arch. To your children, I urge you to remain bonded like the Holy Family. The will of God must be done.

BIOGRAPHY OF NNEOMA, LADY, LOLO ANGELINA CHINYERE EKEOCHA (LSM)
“The Matriarch’s Mantle: Woven in Grace, Anchored in Faith” (The tribute, rewritten in verbal artistry).
In the cool shade of the raffia palms, when the cock still crowed to mark the passing of time, a daughter was born to Umuovum Ulakwo, and the earth echoed with quiet joy. They named her Angelina Chinyere, and truly she was a child of grace — the first blossom from two mighty trees: Nze John Nwaneto and Lolo Priscilla Mezieuwa, whose love was blessed at the altar of Mount Carmel, Emekuku, in the days when whites in cassocks still strode the red earth.
As the first grandchild on both sides, she was not raised — she was gently planted. Her life was a well-watered garden tended by many hands — hands that fed, that clothed, that cradled. And so she grew — not like the stubborn yam in the dry season, but like a tender shoot that knows only rain and sunshine. From this womb of love was born her lifetime of compassion, generosity, and unshakable faith.

It is said in our land that when a child washes her hands clean, she may dine with elders. Angelina, little but fierce, washed her hands early. Her mother, Priscilla, had tasted the quiet discipline of the Holy Rosary Sisters. Her father, John, wore decency like a second skin. It was no surprise then that their daughter would be sent off to the finest schools — Holy Rosary School, Ulakwo… then far-off Mbaise, Onitsha, Emekuku. She became a teacher, though her hands barely reached the blackboard. The nuns brought her a stool, but wisdom stood tall within her.
Even after marriage and motherhood, education still called her name like the evening bell in a quiet convent. She answered. From Aba to Pankshin, she wore her books like wrappers — completing every level until her portrait in a graduation gown stood proudly beside those of her children and her late husband. A true daughter of knowledge.

Wife. Mother. Builder of Souls.
At just nineteen years, Angelina of the Angels, as the Nuns fondly called her, became a wife to Patrick Ekeocha, a promising young man of chalk and board. Ten children were born to them. Eight grew into trees, and those trees bore fruits. Their home, like the great compound of old, overflowed — with relatives, strangers, children who came in search of discipline and light. One pot of soup, yet many hands. One woman, yet enough love for a village.
When her beloved Patrick was called home too soon, she did not break. No. Like the iroko tree, she stood. Praying. Teaching. Guiding. Waiting.
Woman of God. Warrior of Faith.
Every morning, her voice lifted with the rhythm of the Rosary Beads. Not as a routine, but as a covenant, each decade named after a child, each prayer, a seed sown. Her faith was not a thing of the tongue — it was carved into her bones. In the story of Cana of Galilee, she found her theology. In the Rosary Mysteries, she found her strength.
As a Lector, Legionary, and Lady of the Knights of St. Mulumba, her devotion knew no pause. Her hands counted coins for the parish. Her lips moved in prayer. Her feet danced in service. The Church knew her name — not because it was written in bulletins, but because it was whispered in prayer.
Mother of Her People
Ah, Angelina… she was not just a mother of children. She was a mother of her people.
When politics stirred the village dust, it was her voice that called the women to rise and vote. When the drums beat at dancing competitions, her Ugochinyere troupe danced like the daughters of Obube n'eri azu. She led women’s associations, taught teachers how to organize, traced long-lost cousins through names like threads in a tapestry, and raised the forgotten as her own.
She did not lead from the front. She led from the heart.

The Sunset Came Softly
In her later days, she lived with her daughter, Maria, a healer of bodies, while she herself healed souls with her smile and prayers. Her days were filled with Holy Masses, Marian hymns, and the soft chant of the Rosary. She spoke of a vision — a mansion in heaven nearly ready, only awaiting painting. Then, one quiet Sunday afternoon, on April 6 specifically, she had already heard Mass on the radio lying down, like the whisper of a dove’s wings, He came. The Painter had finished. She quietly and peacefully followed Him home.
Her passing was not thunder, but light — swift, gentle, sure.
A Legacy Etched in Eternity
Lady Lolo Angelina Chinyere Ekeocha, Nneoma-Arch, you did not merely live. You poured yourself out like palm wine at a wedding — sweet, generous, leaving joy in your wake. You taught not only in classrooms but in life. You blessed not only your children but also your people. You loved not only with words but with action and sacrifice.
Now, the Beads have fallen silent. The chair is empty. But your voice remains — in hymns, in laughter, in stories told in the cool evenings.
Go well, Nne Oma. Dance among the angels. Rest beneath the shade of your heavenly udara tree. You have finished the race. The crown fits. We remember! We remain!
